I have been told the Timberwolves intend to go in a different direction for the 2026-27 season, bringing in two announcers who bring well-established national credentials to work most of the team’s games on DAZN and a yet-to-be-announced local station that will show 15 games on over-the-air TV.

Former Portland Trail Blazers broadcaster Kevin Calabro and Chicago Cubs play-by-play voice Jon (Boog) Sciambi are expected to be named as announcers for the majority of the Wolves schedule. Grady and Alan Horton, the Wolves’ radio voice, will also do some of the games that aren’t on national networks.

Whether the Seattle gig is imminently on Kevin Calabro’s horizon or not, I don’t think he minds spending time in the Midwest. He’s originally from Indianapolis and he still has family in Indiana. His brother, Dave Calabro, was/is mainstay of broadcast network sports coverage in Central Indiana. Dave recently retired from his TV network job after 32 years, but continues to work as the PA announcer for the Indy 500 and he hosts a podcast covering local sports. The third Calabro brother became a teacher and moved to southern Indiana. Retired, but still lives down there.

Have to assume Kevin values spending a season closer to his hometown and brothers. But I’m slightly miffed that DAZN got the Pacers contract yet didn’t find a way to get Calabro on Pacers’ broadcasts. Maybe Kevin didn’t want to step on his brother’s toes or something, but it’s especially annoying considering that Minnesota already has Grady - another Indy native and the Pacers’ former PA announcer.

im not sure how much of a factor this really is. minneapolis and indiana are both midwest, yes, but they’re not particularly close, and the timberwolves are not in the east yet so we’re only in indy once a season (until we meet them in the finals!).

I hear you, but it’s just way easier to visit Indianapolis from Minneapolis than it is from Seattle.

3-5 direct flights between Indianapolis and Minneapolis, vs 1-2 per day between Indy and Seattle. 1 hour timezone difference vs a 3 hour timezone difference. 1.5 hour flight vs a 4.5 hour flight.

It’ll be trivial for Kevin Calabro to make easy day trips to Indianapolis between Wolves’ home games. And by covering a team in the West, he’ll have his opportunities to see his kids in Seattle too.

But yes, a Finals match-up is coming. A war between the country’s two biggest -polis suffix towns.

There are 3-5 daily flights between the Minneapolis and Indianapolis going each direction. The flight is an hour and a half, and there is only a 1-hour timezone difference.

For a guy like Caballero, who has some money and who maintains close relationships with his brothers? Covering the Timberwolves for a season will allow him to make absurdly easy day trips when he has time off between home games.
