Japan’s BLeague teams can play 3 World Imports (mostly Americans) and 1 Asian import (mostly Filipinos) or 1 naturalized player (foreign born naturalized Japanese citizen).
Since the pay is competitive, teams sign American imports that have NBA experiences like Jahlil Okafor and Stanley Johnson.
Top Philippine prospects also get recruited and skip the local domestic league (PBA) much to the dismay of the PBA officials, leading to talent-drain and stale competition.
I digged through all the teams. There are only 6 Filipino players across the 26 Premier teams. If there are any more they must be in either of the two lower B. Leagues. Also they expanded Premier, some teams have up to 4-5 Americans lol. Jalen McDaniels is by himself, probably doesn’t want to share the ball.

Bro he was hot garbage. He was on the raps a couple years ago and I was expecting decent stuff because he was decent on the Hornets and Sixers but was one of the most frustrating players I’ve ever seen. Sure you could say some rookies may be worse but in terms of players I had expectations for as a top ~8-9 rotation guy he was incredibly bad. I thought he was going to be the best backup SF we’d had since OG was backing up Kawhi but he was so bad he fell out of the rotation and we were lucky the Kings salary dumped Vazenkov, Jamal Shead pick and Davion Mitchell for him. They dumped him before the season because he was also so horrid in camp to the Spurs who then waived him.

I’m Pinoy but the PBA is so hard to support. The league is stuck in early 2000s basketbal strategies and the top officials are stubborn to grow out of it, hence PH despite being a “basketball country” falls behind significantly in development to our Asian neighbors.
The PBA has sucked ever since Alaska was disbanded. College ball is the only hoops worth watching in the country now, tsk

Meh, it’s not perfect, but at least the crowd/school spirit aspect makes for a compelling watch. PBA doesn’t even have that, haven’t felt that way for at least 10 years for me at least.

Yeah there was the obvious missed backcourt violation. The refs were letting it get chaotic in the last minute.
Got bumped though. Good no call vs a foul or a violation when there was contact forcing it.

He wasn’t MVP, DPOY or Finals MVP last year. Love watching him play, but he won 6MOTY last season. His former teammates Yudai Baba and Lee Hyunjung won DPOY and Finals MVP respectively.
Probably worth mentioning that SJ nearly lost his team the game just before this shot, which makes the buzzer beater even better.

DJ Newbill becoming the first foreign player to win MVP (and the first player to win back-to-back-to-back MVPs) is so weird to me. Like he was really good in Osaka, signed for a much more popular team and then all of a sudden he was in MVP talks despite playing at a similar level.

I played against him in high school. He was already his team’s best player as a sophomore and his team was one of the best in the state. I thought his floor in a bad outcome would be a 10 year bench NBA player back then.

The only player I’ve ever seen jump and end up lower than their standing reach. What a weirdly unathletic player he was/is.
B.League is going through a interesting restructuring, They’re really trying to compete world wide, while not neglecting their local fan base
I only began following recently. The national team win against Finland at home a few years ago pretty much kickstarted the popularity and Rui returning back to Japan the last two of seasons helped a lot. Even though he isn’t associated with the B.League he’s said multiple times he’d like to finish his basketball career playing for Touyama..
I also think Kawamura will probably return back next year. I doubt he stays in the NBA unless the Clippers want to hook him up.
I can see Yuki coming back soon to the B.League. He was popular in Chicagoland area (Suburbs surrounding Chicago) when He played for the Windy City Bulls but sadly was released, He’s with the Clippers currently but probably not a guarantee. Yuki worked very hard to make things work, dude is talented but It’s hard to see Yuki in His prime going around like a Journey man
