Throughout NBA history, what do you think are some of the most egregious examples of particular players in specific seasons that were left out of the All-Star game? After very briefly researching the topic on the internet, it seems like the most common choices are Kareem in 1978, Barkley in 1986, Stockton in 1988, Dirk in 2001, Lillard in 2017, and Bradley Beal in 2020. Of that particular group, who do you think was the biggest snub? And are there any other examples that come to your mind that are a bit more overlooked and not talked about quite as much?

I felt Mike Bibby and Richard Jefferson could have been All-Stars during their tenures with the Kings and Nets respectively during the mid-2000s. The biggest issues were that they were overshadowed by their All-Star teammates (Webber, Peja, Kidd, etc.).

This is why I don’t like the east vs west conferences and even the playoffs/players

Historically the west has fielded better team top to bottom(even if the top of the east and west are relative). I don’t think people understand that it’s harder to beat 3 50 win teams en route to the finals and then another 50 win team in the finals then to beat 1 other 50 win team to get to the finals then play there.

I truly believe if the spurs or thunder didn’t play each other in the WCF then they would’ve beaten the knicks(no excuses for all the late leads they gave up but they did just play a grueling 7 game series against the best team in the league)

I don’t think the point here is money a lot of guys would like to receive the acknowledgment and be able to do something special… it also affects a lot of legacy as some players who were 5 time all stars could’ve been 8 time all stars if they played in the east.

I mean no offense(I’m a hawks fan) but we had Kyle Korver and Jeff Teague make the team in the east and they were good players but all star is a bit high

Mike Bibby, Jrue Holiday, Deron Williams all would’ve had maybe 3 more selections if they played there primes in the east vs west I’m sure their are so many more

I mean all-nba teams being tied to contract values are also a joke because players often get injured and players who should not make it get in and as a result are extremely overpaid and become hard to move.

Amongst the guys that are more overlooked, I’ll give a shoutout to Kendall Gill in 1997. He was always a very good defender throughout his entire career, and in that year specifically, he combined his tenacious defense with a career high average of 21.8 points per game, the highest scoring single game of his career with 41 points, and 12 total games of scoring at least 30 as well as producing double digit scoring numbers in all 82 regular season games. I think a reasonable case can be made that he should have been on the East Team that year over Joe Dumars, who was past his prime at that point.

Kendall Gill was one of my favorite players growing up, he always seemed like a borderline All-Star to me but I was a teenager when he was with Charlotte and Seattle

2017 west was super stacked. Dame wasn’t even the best PG to not be an all star that year, CP3 didn’t make it either. ⁶⁄₇ of the best players in the world (Curry, KD, Kawhi, Harden, Russ, AD) played in the west, with 3 of those being MVP candidate guards who are locked. Klay’s spot as the 4th guard could’ve gone to CP3, but Gasol/DeAndre Jordan as the wild card picks are the ones I’d cut for CP3/Dame

Rudy Gobert in 2019 is one of if not the worst ever. He won a second consecutive DPOY while also having probably his best offensive season of his career (16 ppg on league-best 68% true shooting), it’s insane that he got snubbed for LaMarcus Aldridge.

There is only one real answer. It’s ²⁰⁰⁰⁄₂₀₀₁ Dirk. Essentially because he was so good at everything, Stern wouldn’t consider him for the C injury replacement for Shaq. So instead, they let Vlade Divac be an all star. The excuse was that Dirk didn’t play in the paint so how could he be a C.

Runner up is ²⁰⁰⁰⁄₂₀₀₁ Paul Pierce. 25 6 and 3. He should have been the injury replacement for Grant Hill but Stern gave it to Sprewell basically because he was more well known and the Knicks had a better record.

CP3 was much better than Dame in 2017, played the same position, lead the Clippers to a hot start briefly being the 1 seed over the Warriors early on, and wasn’t selected as an All-Star. He was snubbed more than Dame was, Dame’s fans are just louder at crying about it

He wasn’t the biggest snub ever, but Lou Williams was having a career year in 2018. He wanted to play, but Jimmy Butler made the all star reserves over him.

Butler then proceeded to not play in the all star game at all. It was Lou’s last chance at an all-star appearance, and he got robbed of it.
