Just to clarify there is no lesser extent. Adam Dunn was an absolute elite player at drawing walks. They mattered more than his home run hitting because he couldn’t hit for average. He needed both those skills to be an effective major leaguer. If he hit .237 for his career and didn’t have a career .364 OBP he would’ve washed out in a couple years.

Andre Roberson is the defensive version of this. He has nearly as many airballs as he has 3pters made.

Steve Novak was one of the best shooters to play the game. He couldn’t do anything else but he had decent size.

Edit: Anthony Morrow is another great example. Elite three point specialist who didn’t really impact the game elsewhere. Not a good rebounder, not a good playmaker, but his stroke is up there with the best.

Edit 2: I’d also love to give a shout out to one of my favorite players to watch, Cam Thomas. Truly an elite scorer but quite literally couldn’t impact the game in any other facet. Already seemingly out of the league.

Jason Kapono could pretty much only shoot 3’s. I’d say just about every other 3 point specialist did at least something else decently well (Steve Novak comes decently close).

Reggie Evans was kind of this for rebounding.

Oliver Miller was able to make a comeback after being out of the league because he was large enough to stand in front of Shaq, and that was pretty much what the Timberwolves needed.

Cam Thomas? No playmaking, no brainpower, no defense, basically no rebounding, no winning, no contract, just putting the ball in the air fairly well.

It has to be somebody from before the NBA started universally valuing 3 point shooting.

Adam Dunn was a HR and BB machine that struck out all the time and couldn’t run, play defense, or hit for average and yet still rated very highly by advanced metrics. The things he was great at had an outsized impact on winning even if the style offended the purists at the time.

The NBA equivalent would be somebody from the 90’s or 2000’s that shot a lot of 3’s and FT’s and didn’t do much else.

Not sure there is a perfect comparison but somebody like Peja Stojakovic

Mattise Thybulle is a defensive specialist who is below average at pretty much every other aspect of basketball

Reggie Evans might be the perfect example, 10+ year career from being a hustle rebounder for 10-20 minutes:

I wanna say Rodman if we can group his defence and rebounding as one since they overlap

Anfernee Simons can do one thing on a basketball court, but holy fuck is he good at that one thing

Matt Bonner. Red Mamba. Pop would sub him in for an inbound play and then out a few possessions later.

Plenty of specialist in the nba. Like a Duncan Robinson, Sam Merrill, or one way offensive guys who are elite at play finishing like rui hachimura,

Trey Murphy makes wide-open threes at a phenomenal rate, and spectacular dunks when someone else creates a clear path to the rim for him.

He offers no other positives on a basketball court. Absolutely zero contribution in every other aspect of the game.

Dunn was also shockingly consistent. From 2004-2008 he hit 40 home runs and had an OBP of .386, .387 or .388 for four out of five seasons.

Most likely a 20 ppg scorer putting up empty stats.

Adam Dunn hitting homers and striking out was ahead of his time. He would fit right in, in today’s game.

Basically the analytical version of guys taking more 3 pt shots

Rasheed Wallace. Technicals.

Antoine Walker. His traditional %s were horrible just like Dunn but his advanced stats were a bit better due to shooting so many 3s, like Dunn having so many homers and walks

Reggie Evans could rebound exceptionally well, and do zero else effectively.

Andre Drummond: when Drummond was a more prolific player in Detroit, it was all pretty empty but on the same token the production was predictable and reliable so it presented a pretty big conundrum.
