Genuinely curious, has a doctor ever commented on the amount of strain his body has to go through endured a season? Is there a workout regiment that can help protect him? Is he just permanently at risk of injury?
Admittedly being 7’6” is limited territory but the general idea that increasing muscle mass increases strain is largely a misconception. This really depends on whether you’re maintaining functional training for the type of movements your body will regularly be exposed to throughout an NBA game in conjunction w/ heavier lifting/heavier compound lifts for hypertrophy. More muscle can actually help function as shock absorbers and help stabilize joints, ligaments, etc. It can also help muscle imbalances, improve bone density, and more. Then there’s the performance benefits of improved stride efficiency, a stronger core, and being able to exert more power with less effort throughout the game – or in other words, repeated high-intensity movements such as sprints, cuts, boxing out players, jumps, etc. are done more efficiently and neuromuscular fatigue is delayed. An important part of it is to improve muscle mass gradually and not rapidly for adaptation to the newfound mass. I don’t necessarily think he needs to get to Giannis level but I do think Wemby would benefit a lot from some heavy compound lifts – especially focusing on developing a better lower body foundation.
