My understanding is that this was when a lot of broadcasters switched to digital video formats for archiving video (instead of analog tapes like Sony Betacam). This particular clip may very well have been initially captured with a computer running Windows 98 and uploaded to Limewire from a college dorm.

I distinctly remember hearing the call on the radio and it sounded so bananas that I was desperately searching for the video the next day.
Clippers still had tickets available directly the day of this game and I remember getting the email that all upper level seats were reduced to $15 (Vince’s jersey #) the morning of that day. Even the Clippers were heavily promoting VC for the game and it was pretty normal for them to heavily promote the talent of the opposing team when selling tickets, but I guess Lawler always hated that.
Yea I remember this. The Clippers used to market around the other teams they would play. Full page ads in the newspaper for packages of 5 or 6 games and no sign of any Clippers. Just a series of pictures of the teams and dates along with each team’s stars. How depressing to be a fan of a team that marketed the other teams.
I mean they really had nothing during this time. It’s easy to say “lol Clippers” with recent events and not having won a championship despite trying and spending, but they at least had some semblance of year-to-year competition once Chris Paul got there. They didn’t even have Elton Brand on the team from when this game happened. They had a young Lamar Odom and Olowokandi and that’s basically it.
