I don’t see KAT pining for a 4-year max extension after the year he had for his hometown team. But maybe things change once you have the hardware.

It’s really not bad for a long-range 4-5 with no particular defense to begin with. He’s likely to stay the same or slightly better player, it’s a game that ages well.

This is the championship reality. It blows my mind when teams don’t pay players that brought them to the promised land. Mark Cuban in 2012 is another example. I swear these owners just want to seem smart.

Same with future brunson.   He’ll be a free agent at 31  and you’re paying an extension so you get his age 32 and so he isn’t disgruntled to not get an extension

Yeah, but he’s not going to pick up the player option. That’s the point. The player option is just insurance in case he gets hurt this year, because someone will give him a four year max as a free agent if he doesn’t pick up the option and that would start above the $61 million player option.

If he plays on the player option, he also risks getting hurt and completely fucking himself when he’s in line for a $260+ million payday.

He totally deserves it. That is not the question. It’s just that a certain configuration would mean not retaining e.g. two of Hart, Bridges and OG even after spending a year in tge second Apron. I am not an expert but it seems to me there is some realistic way of keeping them all for 4 years and only being above the second apron twice. After which you are kind of forced to nuke the team and swallow some old, hefty contracts
