I think the same thing as with Nembhard: they’re too short. They can handle and take care of the ball, pass well, but ideally you’d want Doncic, Flagg, or Murray and Jokic with the ball, running the offense. And then on defense they just get abused because they’re too short, too weak.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s kinda the same problem they’d have with Ryan Nembhard. He’s small, gets hunted on defense, and people put too much stock in to raw assist numbers. He was never that good.

His defense completely fell off and made him unplayable and he lost some quickness so his ability to drive and create isn’t useful now. Wasn’t a good fit with the Magic either

I will not tolerate the Davion Mitchell slander. Dude is the Heat personified, hounding defense, got that dawg in him. I haven’t seen anyone post as many gym clips as him this summer, he was traveling to Serbia with Jovic, Greece with Giannis, Spain with Pelle, training with all them, he really wants to prove himself. Yes ideally he’d be a backup point guard, energy off the bench, but it is what it is. I’m willing to give him a shot. Dru Smith is underrated too, sad thing is he can’t stay healthy.

and he knew Ryan would barely get any playing time once everyone was healthy again. better to go to a team where he could actually contribute and prove his worth.

Yeah, that was kind of my take last year… if Ryan and Drew wanted to play together it would have been a no brainer to sign him last year. The fact that didn’t probably means they want to do their paths.

Well I wouldn’t say the Mavs are anywhere near set at the point guard position but I don’t think another small guard is going to help. The team needs another higher level point guard though because Kyrie’s going to inevitably not be able to play in every game and it’s going to be a lot of Cooper and Naji playing point.
