Maybe I’m just completely out of touch here but I feel like its the younger crowd that’s excited for the GTA release a lot more than the older crowd, despite not being around for previous releases. The younger crowd seems to have mythologized the franchise more while the older crowd remembers (or at least should remember) how shitty GTA 5 performed on the original platforms it released on and how it didn’t actually become a good game until the next gen and pc versions were released.
This is crazy revisionist. It scored a 97 on metacritic on both ps3 and 360. Having the entire city of LA mapped to that level of detail at the time was genuinely groundbreaking. The game definitely improved with the next gen releases but you can’t act like it wasn’t critically acclaimed in 2013.
Yes it was critically acclaimed, that doesnt mean it wasnt also obviously ass. It was a game that was pretty obviously engineered to impress critics over people who put significant hours into it, and I expect this one to be no different. Cars popping into existence as you crashed into them left and right, online play being 90% loading screens. And no, simply having a big open world city was not that groundbreaking at all. Sure it was bigger than GTA4, but fundamentally it was not much more complex or alive than Liberty City.

Yea same. I play slow. Listen to all the voiced dialogue, talk to every NPC, carefully choose my units and their abilities, and also tend to get caught up planning a future class path for them. Plus I am definitely playing all 4 routes. So I imagine at 45 hours on chapter 9 that even if I beat the other routes in like 20-25 hours that I will be here at least 150 tbh lol

I think the world is bigger than three houses so I find myself looking around a lot at what each npc is doing, even if they’re standing still, I think it’s cool to see the whole place and what people do. The talking npcs are nice too, I can’t decide if I like how fire emblem does things with npcs talking about the world around them more or how persona does it, where many will share an ongoing personal story throughout the year, some in depth and some silly fun. Both are fantastic

I believe so. I think they map designs are better, almost all of the characters look great, the ones on Leda’s route (the only I have played) are pretty well written, and I am enjoying the plot. The in between stuff is still there but it can be streamlined more easily even if it’s not small. Your mileage may vary in clashes though.

A part of me hopes the game is terrible. Not because of schadenfreude, but because this game has the most hype of any game in history and the fallout from it being bad would have to be hilarious. That’s pretty close to schadenfreude, but it’s more like instead of laughing at a stranger slipping on ice it’d be laughing at the absurdity of seeing 1,000 people slip on ice at the same moment. The memes would be peak and there’d be hundreds of them.
For every other game, I want the game to be as good as possible since I want people to have fun, but something about the IMMENSE hype of this game has me wondering the the come down would even look like among the gaming community if the game was utter trash. There’d be a progression to it, too, and it’d be wonderful. Day 1 is guaranteed to be good vibes and feedback everywhere since the immense hype guarantees people’s day 1 impressions will be riding high. But then day 2 some criticisms some pop into the mix. By day 3 the top threads of the GTA subreddit would be complaint threads. By day 4 it’d be chaos. I want to experience that day 4.
