He’s still capable enough defensively and is tradeable at the deadline/next season if he’s really that bad. It’s a much better alternative to having 5 mil in dead cap for 3 seasons.
I think they’d rather waive him than take on Martin
A 9.4m expiring, to me at least, is much more useful than ~5m in dead cap next season.
The ~5m saved this season from not doing the deal would not make much of a difference, besides saving some luxury tax money, as Minnesota’s already used all of their exceptions and are hard-capped at the second apron.
Don’t see a reason to not do that deal, if it is on the table.
