The shares of the team owned by the Buss family are not owned individually but owned through a trust. Individuals can’t sell their shares unless the trustees, who are the people who are appointed to manage the trust, agree to the sale or unless the trust is dissolved. As the aftermath of a legal dispute in 2017, the trustees of the Buss family trust were Jeanie, her sister Janie, and her half brother Joey, and the court stipulated that the trustees must do everything in their power to ensure that Jeanie remains the controlling governor of the team.

Jeanie Buss’s claim seems to be that the terms of the 2017 court order still apply and that the other trustees violated the 2017 court order when they voted to sell the family’s remaining shares which would ensure that Jeanie stops being the controlling governor of the team.

It’s now up to the courts to decide who is correct.

She was instilled as the spokesperson or liaison between the family trust and team some time ago. Her interpretation is that means she controls the trust… It’s very likely bunk and a very desperate ploy to retain here title as Lakers Governor.

Apparently there’s some sort of legalize in the trust that they can never sell.  Even though they already did sell some years ago.  Or maybe they all have to agree to sell.

I don’t know that she’s going to lose, the trust is the trust is the trust. Don’t know that the brothers can sell the assets of a trust in violation of its terms.
