Bryce Harper goes oppo with a 2-run HR just over the wall, to start the scoring vs SEA.
We’re gonna go 4-2 against 2 of the best teams in the NL with a -30 run differential
Mariner
Bryan Woo is cooked isn’t he
He’s had a couple of bad starts in a row, but he’s at 3.1 WAR on the season, and his FIP xFIP, and xERA all suggest that his 4.10 ERA could easily be lower with some better batted ball luck.
Baseball is really hard, and sometimes good players have stretches where they struggle. There’s nothing to suggest that Woo is just suddenly bad, even if he has had a couple of poor starts
Seems like more than a few bad games he’s been pretty awful on the road this whole year
I wouldn’t say that a partial sample of a partial season is the most convincing evidence that he’s just suddenly done as a good pitcher, but if you just cherry pick the road starts, you can make the numbers say that, sure. I wouldn’t say it’s more informative than just looking at the full sample of both home and road games though
Seasons almost over tho, not saying he’s not going to be good again, but this was not a good year for him.
He was not as good as you would expect him to have been this year (2026 Mariners experience). I just don’t find 74 innings of road performance to be a good reason to say that he is done as a good pitcher, which was the question that I originally responded to.
He still has 3.1 WAR, and a FIP, xFIP, and xERA that are in line with his good seasons, even though his ERA this year is mediocre. Those three are all better predictors of future performance than ERA is.
Just saying “he’s been bad on the road” is not a very convincing indicator that he’s done as a good pitcher, when the best statistical predictors we have say otherwise. If there’s some research that suggests that road performance is meaningfully more predictive of a pitcher’s overall future performance than the full sample of home and road games, I’d be glad to reconsider how significant that is. But since that is not the case, to my knowledge, arbitrarily taking just the road games and ignoring the home games doesn’t tell us much.
Is there a reason why you’d ignore all the home games and just use the road games to assess the likelihood he’s done being good?
Nobody said he’s having a great season. But baseball players sometimes have down seasons. That’s just how the sport works. Justin Verlander was mediocre in 2014 and 2015.
Cris sanchez has been excellent at home and awful on the road this year.
Jesus Luzardo has been terrible at home and excellent on the road this year.
Same home ball park, small sample sizes are funky
Yeah the ignoring the home starts and only looking at road starts is very bizarre. Smells like starting with a conclusion and looking for evidence
No real reason to think so. He’s had a bad year but his expected stats aren’t all that different from last season
He looked great when I saw him in NY a little while ago. The stuff is seemingly still there. Then again, the Yankees offense was so ass at the time that they could’ve made starter Brayan Bello look good.
Woo!
About to sneak in the top 5 of OPS 👀
Bruce is so very old though. I was told he washed 🤷♀️

75 hits in 29 games? That’s not happening lmao
Harper could not conceivably get 75 hits over next 29 games …
