This is game 3⁄3 and they’ve been missing check-swing calls the whole series. Guess he was just a bit frustrated.
Eh.. It was kind of a weak ejection imo. He basically yells “That was a fucking swing”, then the ump starts basically telling him to shut up, then he just says “Just get it (the call) right” a couple times while still being somewhat calm… Then the ump tosses him and that’s when he jumps out of the dugout

It’s going to take people awhile to get used to what they consider a swing with that system.
Theyre gonna have to actually define a swing before that.

Yeah but thats just what it is generally accepted as right now, back in the 50s it was about breaking the wrists. The rulebook only says “an attempt to strike at the ball,” you can ABS a judgement call.
I’d say right now most people would consider breaking the plane of the plate itself a swing. The new automated system is 45 degrees past that.

That’s what they’re doing with the testing. Figuring out the right angle to define what a swing is. The system in the minors currently defines it at 45 degrees past the plane of the plate. If the system makes it into the majors they’d change the rule book to define it at whatever angle they end up settling at.
If 90º is the front of the plate, itll count a swing as 45º past that

I love when the manager immediately thinks they’re right when it comes to check swings and the strike-zone. If ABS has shown us anything, is that managers are wrong….a lot.

Seriously. Why is he yelling at the home plate ump, he appealed as he should have. It doesn’t look like a close enough swing to be acting like that, he was given chances to just stop and decided not to. Vitello is a clown.
They’ve been missing check swings all series. The frustration just boiled over.

The rulebook only defines a strike as a pitch that “is struck at by the batter and is missed.” It is entirely at the home plate umpire’s discretion to determine if an attempt to strike occurred,
How can you argue a call if the rule specifically says “whatever the ump felt like its correct”?
That was a pretty quick toss, but when an umpire says they don’t want to argue or that’s enough out of you and the manager/coach/player continues to argue/talk back then the ump has every right to toss them.

I dunno about the call but dude when has anyone ever been allowed to argue balls and strikes? It has always been a quick hook, the ump even gave him an opportunity to let it go and he still went after him, did he want to get ejected over this?
