I have a feeling that these mechanics might be okay’ish for campaign, but will feel horrible in endgame.
Hope I’m wrong.
I mean so long as there is something interesting for endgame that’s fine. I enjoy the game a lot more if builds make major transitions in feel as the game on. I get bored with the same build quickly. Which is the reason I try to always play ED Contagion… wait hold up.
As long as it attacks faster than Mace’s, it’s going to feel better as a melee character. Plus we’ve already seen cyclone and that’s like one of the best mappers ever.
We’ll see about that. That Flicker looked a lot faster than cyclone mowing down white mobs.
Flicker also gives you eye cancer. As long as Cyclone can scale with ms speed or attack speed we’ll be fine. Plus the other skills look really good.
Yeah in endgame when you can’t discern one attack from another because of mob density ect. Really hope it does feel good though cause this kinda skill sounds so cool
Combo gameplay!
I am thinking endgame with gear will play something similar to twister build.
correct, just like nobody plays fangs of frost

Haltung is better translated as “stance” in this context, so this basically just shows blood and “ready” stance.
I really don’t know why its called ready stance and not sand
I looked it up in PoEDB, and the only other place in the game they use bereitschaft, the english version is “waiting”. So could be anything from waiting stance, readiness stance, primed stance, preparation stance, etc..
Sand stance is a bit weird thematically when there is so many actual sand-themes in the game, it’s only because of PoE1 we think of that
Verashta has sand djinn
Yes that’s my point. Sand magic is a thing in PoE2.. In PoE1 the reason it was sand stance is the “blood and sand” theme which is a nod to the ground of a gladiator arena, and nothing to do with sand magic lore

not stage but rather stance
Yeah I gathered from the context.
With the sorry state of parrying in the game currently, I’m surprised they’re adding more parry mechanics. Sure they can change how parrying works but as long as it requires your enemy having to hit you first (which is an intrinsic part of parrying), then it’s going to be a massive detriment to your speed if you’re using it for clear. Maybe it has a place in bossing but the game has been actively regressing in terms of boss difficulty so it’s probably not going to be needed. My guess is at most it’ll be useful in campaign and early endgame.
So far it seems to me they’re moving towards parry being for bosses and rares, or at least that’s the intent. It’s fun when it works but it’s obviously very dependent on who you’re fighting.
That is cool and all. The problem is to balance it. Like if you want to focus on parry you probably want to invest in it in the passive tree and itemization and doing that vs just focusing on crit or anything that is generally useful for both clear and bosses might lead to a weaker character. And if you just make it end game viable without any investment it becomes really uninteresting and shallow.
Weapon swap points do exist for that reason though. I was using parry for my primal strike build last update and it was very easy to fit 50% increased debuff magnitude on my tree for my single target tree.
That’s a fair point. I still think there are some pain points. Pathing can be an issue. Itemization is another and I think for a majority of players weapon swap is just a lot of overhead and increased complexity in build making. So even when viable I think the general game design and the path of least resistance funnels most players away from it. Which is not necessary a problem in it’s own but can be an issue if they make parrying a central theme around the class.
Even parrying rares is painful. Way too many mobs will just fuckin’ miss you even if you’re standing completely still.
Don’t disagree. It seems like the parry mechanic is trying to venture into something like an Arkham combat system where you’ll get little markers for counter windows, but then you need enemies to reliably hit, which can bring it’s own issues…..I don’t envy the devs there
Since it’s just another tool for you the mechanic is alright. I think they want parry in general to be like an optional weapon swap thing for extra damage. And it seems alt attack mode will be the main thing for swords instead.
Idk if you looked at all the discourse surrounding how GGG would eventually implement cyclone before today, it was about how they were going to ruin a cool thing by making it hyper conditional and require you to interact with mechanics people dislike like charge or glory generation.
This seems like that, but actually real. And after how emotional the discourse has been surrounding swords and GGG taking a while to add them, will people be okay with blood stance being locked behind parrying? At least for spears nothing that interesting is locked behind the parry debuff.
Just play poe1 bro instead of hoping for a boring copy+paste in poe2
What does this have to do with Poe 1??
It’s a thought terminating deflection of criticism of poe2. I explained exactly why I think parrying was fundamentally flawed and gave an objective poe1 independent reason for it but that’s not enough apparently. Funnily enough 99% of the time I’ll defend poe2s differences, I just think parrying is a miss.
I’m never touching that game. You can try responding to something I actually said though.
Here’s to hoping they soft rework parry to make it have more player agency.
Also doesn’t help that bucklers are absolute garbage and you still need a second spell to consume the parry to get a beneficial benefit from it (beyond the max damage).
In lategame nobody wants to wait 3 business days on a mob to hit them.
Remove parry mechanics from this game, man, like it doesn’t fit it. And don’t even argue about no rest for the wicked, since that is just top-down Dark Souls. And this game isn’t top-down Dark Souls; it’s Poe.
are they serious ? swords are going to be grounded charge skills ?
They made the game back to zoom zoom poe1 with dozens of mobs on the screen and a clear speed race and they introduce charge skills ?
If they don’t like melee they can just say it and remove it, we’ll understand.
I wish they would just slow the game down for everyone and make it like they initially said they would, They can’t go one way and then the other after every patch.
Maybe try first then say?
try like what ? mace prefect strike ? We all know how that type of playstyle is working in the game at the moment. If it was working people wouldn’t spam shield wall even after all the nerfs.
There is a reason why most melee builds are wolf talisman, it’s because it’s fast and mobile.
This is one skill man. We dont even know if there will be other ways to ender blood stance or if it will be good for all sword skills.
I highly doubt it’s an actual charge with a duration, more like click this button then click the next to alter the properties of the latter. You can see it in the trailer.
Think of it like whirling slash into twister
The combo haters are going to love this 🤣
holding a key down to enter a stance I feel is horrible on Mouse/KB. This looks potentially fine on controller. This would be much better as a toggle for MKB
Just bind the parry into right click, if its the same as the buckler parry youll be able to change it to whatever bind you want. That’s what I did with the buckler when huntress released.
Also, toggle hold for this sort of mechanic sounds awful, what if you for some reason panic? youll be slow moving in the seconds that matter. I am aware that it is automatic parries, but still.
Maybe im not understanding the mechanic. It seems like entering blood stance modifies many swords skills. I think having to hold down a key to maintain blood stance while piano-ing your skills could get annoying.
In one of the other screenshot it seemed like the translation said middle click was parry and you hold right click to activate blood stance. It is the latter I’d want as a toggle.
HAHAHAHAHAHA oh my goodness, how interesting.
Ok, so they’re emphasizing combo based gameplay for better damage and additional benefits like stronger attacks, different attacks ect? Nice.
Hopefully this will make support gems like Perfect Timing supports more relevant too.
Melee twister incomiiing. Cant wait to press 7 buttons for one attack just to get 1 shot from Geonor in middle of it all :DD
You know never thought of it that way, yeah we do need to nerf warrior again
And here I just dreamt of the next patch notes:
“Gemling legionnaire has overperformed all our internal metrics, especially on casted spells….So, yeah, anyway, we decided to bring down Warrior a notch.”
Die Bart Die
Ugh, parry, those skills are doa
Parry is strong as fuck against bosses
Bosses dies in 0.001 seconds, so it doesnt really matter.
By that logic they should just remove hp bars and make everything die in one hit.
My best try of translating:
1.pic “Ready stance” The ready stance changes your skills and makes them better/stronger (just how to use)
alot of other skills also change in ready stance
2.pic blood stance(two swords) parry in ready stance to enter blood stance to get extra effects (how to use the whole chain)
a lot of other skills get extra effects in blood stance
Heartbreaking. 99.8% of all players both HC and standard hate parry. This is an extension of that same mechanism where you have to wait to take action. Nobody wants to purposely get hit let alone stand there as hoards of enemies close in on you in endgame mapping. Hopefully it’s reworked before launch.
No one is saying you have to do the whole parry rotation for every mob pack. It’s two skills here out of the bunch they showed in yesterday’s trailer. You will likely have plenty of quick clear skills that won’t depend on waiting to take action and mechanically skilled players are going to be able to weave the parry combo into their gameplay just fine.
I actually really like parry it’s just that disengage and fangs of frost aren’t good enough to justify it.
Just using parry for the damage amp is very strong. Consuming it is usually a downside. The main thing it needs is a proper skill for it.
I would try it but I lost my parry character to hardcore in maps lol
I think it’s fun. But I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to parry every mob. It’s a powerful debuff for stronger enemies like rares and bosses, and is incredibly useful. I find it funny that people with PoE1 brain think that they should have a single skill/rotation for everything. PoE2 is very much not about that. There’s a lot of things you could use situationally to your advantage.
Parry doesn’t work if you can’t use it on everything, unless the game adds un-immersive UI elements to telegraph this (Jonathan has said he hates these). Otherwise, the mechanic becomes unintuitive and overly punishing. That’s why games which rely on parries like Sekiro carry it as a core element of every fight.
I’m pretty sure even games like Sekiro have attacks that can’t be parried. In which case it’s about learning enemy patterns, which is very much applicable to PoE2 as well, as it’s almost exclusively bosses. I’m sure you could learn to use parry effectively if you wanted to. You can use it on crowds of enemies, and it’s actually quite effective, as it applies parry debuff in AoE. Disengage is devastating with it, and I’m sure some sword skills would work in a similar way. But just in general, it’s a huge damage boost. But normally, you wouldn’t want to use it all the time anyway, if you can cut through enemies without it. You use parry against enemies that don’t die quickly to your normal attacks.
Tell me you don’t play Hardcore without telling me. Parry will get you killed in the end game mapping 100% without any question. Next!
Why would I do that, I’m not a masochist
Besides, it’s an optional playstyle. Do your autoblaster stuff as you always have, no one is forcing you.
It’s funny cause it could work, but they have to make really different game, stop support both game simultaneously and just make less enemies and change numbers in poe2 but they afraid losing their audience.
Yeah man, like I don’t understand this soul slop shit like I get the game is good. But not every game needs to be one. Souls fans are becoming guns and sports gamers in the fantasy genre bro. This is making me starting to hate souls-like genre. It’s so overdone.
haha thinking and hoping that there is no bullshit frenzy charge stuff and instead we get bullshit stance stuff.
Hate to break it down for you but yesterday’s showcase shown in multiple scenes that duelist parried enemy and it gave him some sort of buff. In once scene he also received a frenzy charge after successful parry.
Honestly, this game has too many enrmies for methodical gameplay and I can’t understand why GGG still push the idea. Unles reddit is an echo chamber and their data shows people actually play parry builds.
Well…0.4% of chars on poe.ninja softcore played with a buckler this league.
495.
there was both!! :)))
Klicken ein mousekomputen
Hmm cool, could someone please translate this?
Based on my very limited ability to translate and understand anything outside my language. It looks like the first image shows that you hold the right mouse button to ready your attack and click with the left mouse button to release a wave. The second image shows a sequence where the player prepares a parry (with middle mouse button) and succeeds, they then hold right mouse button to ready their attack and then left click to release a much more powerful attack.
In “Ready Stance” You can hold right click to charge(ready the blade) and then press left click to shoot a wave.(many abilities change if you ready the blade beforehand) In “Blood Stance” you can parry with the middle mouse button and do the same as before but with blood.
There was an English version on the other side of the sign I believe but I forgot to take a picture. Maybe it will pop up later too
Save. Upload chatgpt Translate.
Never understand how people use middle mouse button for anything fact-paced. Seems like such a newb trap. I imagine some granddad having to let go of his mouse to click it
Lol no, lots of pros use it in e.g. dota, there’s no reason not too, unless you’re like 70 years old
Is there a correlation between those pros and having a very small hand? It’s not uncommon for people with larger hands that the finger rests on the front of the M1/M2, and you have to move waay far back.. For me it’s a bit like the ‘y’ keybind on WASD, where’s awkward but doable
Completely false
It’s incredibly easy though? It’s no different from moving a finger to hit a different button with your hand on the keyboard.
I think people have to have a small hand for it to make sense ergonomically, otherwise it’s awkward. If you find that easy, you probably find it hard to reach the top of your phone screen, same concept..
Man, I can’t wait to try this tomorrow.
Parry was bad when spear release and boring frenzy generator, i hope the whole sword i not parry based and we can just play a vanilla cyclone to clear map Parry boss ok Parry white mob is boring
My finger already hurts at the thought of holding the middle mouse button
Already have a looting problem, might as well add using middle click for your build loooool
Perfectly fine with that first one but middle mouse button hold is insane lol
Will be great on controller
It is a riposte. Hold to parry, then riposte.
Nobody got time fir that
I wonder how the attack speed is gonna feel. Er, I mean, A N G R I F F G E S C H W I N D I G K E I T
Ah damn. Blood is locked behind the parry mechanic?
I have to use bucklers?
Oh come on…..
Yeah somehow you will be able use lightning skills just as is, but bleed one is gated by parrying horde of enemies…
You can parry while dual wielding or using a 2hand sword.
um… danke?
Finally we will got plenty stances for gameplay, imagine use some “katana skills” like elden ring
I want to after seeing this

Ja der schwert Bereitschaftsdienst. Wir kennen ihn.
Instead of dpsing, you gotta click, wait, hold, click, then dps?
Non quarterstaff melee is stuck in poe 2 development unlike ranged which is stuck in poe 1 insta dps
‘DIE!’
Instructions are unclear.
Isn’t it very clear?
I mean, I suspected ‘Kill’ instead of ‘Die’ :P
It’s instructions how to die in endgame, hold your buttons while horde killing you
All I want is Oros sword. And when we get axes the two habder that acts like a dual wield.
Fucking bleed getsuga tenshou here i come
I’m surely going to enjoy Swordplayingwithmybrandnewduelistinonepointo.
Omg they keep trying stay with Vision. There will be a lot of upset people at release if you actually take responsibility for parrying and charge up attacks to kill a pack of mobs
DIE
This cool and all. But when I google sword builds all I’m gonna get is one button gemling builds.
Okay? Make your own build then, why do you care so much about what others are doing?
I care about the ceiling, user viability, and logic. I can use the “appropriate” class for any build. But when oracles are better sorcerers than sorcerers, and gemlings are better (insert class here) than (insert class here), it’s a bit frustrating to build what you think you should be building, only to find out your poison pathfinder really should have been a monk if you want a viable poison build.
Alternate and off meta builds are god damned fabulous. I just wish they were as viable.
You can make any build viable with enough currency.
…”I just wish they were as viable”
Like I just said you can make them if you want, this league alone Im still playing and have made over 30 different characters. There’s no meta in this game only what’s most popular, stop following builds and make your own shit.
I don’t use meta builds. But I can see why you might think that. The point I was trying to make, poorly, is that the game doesn’t do a good job letting play what you want, as you’ve said.
I currently have a poison themed pathfinder who uses bows. No matter what I do, it will never deal as much poison damage, as my buddy’s monk. My warriors totems don’t come close to my oracles, etc.
The average user, without looking up guides, is gonna build a pretty shitty end game class. They simply don’t have exposure the all the gear, hidden passives, or the power level to farm. They don’t know what to build because they don’t know about all the components available.
The meta builds typically take roundabout or unpredictable paths to achieve what they have. (How many jewels can I socket anyways?). This is absolutely not something the average player would discover, as it takes about 250k gold to respec at maps. The gems and gear alone are a prohibitive in that, the average user doesn’t have much to experiment with. All that combined leaves the average user to look up guides.
I make my own builds because I started playing MTG in 95, and it’s a sense of pride to build your own deck or build. So I agree, yes you can make any job or class good with enough currency, but you ain’t getting that currency without a decent build.
Does every melee weapon in PoE 2 need to shoot projectiles? Like quarterstaff is the worst, with the majority of skills having a pew pew tag. If swords are the same, its gonna be sad. I want to hack and slash and thrust, not shoot some “wave of force” across the screen.
I was gonna say the same thing.
Problem is scaling letting ppl just scale aoe of attacks also kinda boring, melee was always weaker in poe
Dunno why you say this considering quarterstaff only has a single attack with the projectile tag and its staggering palm.
The big offender is Charged Staff, which adds projectiles to every other attack. But there’s also falling thunder, glacial cascade, storm wave, wave of frost, and staggering palm can similarly add a projectile. Tempest Flurry adds a lightning strike attack, although it’s not a projectile, and martial artist’s hollow form effectively turns any melee skill into a ranged channeling skill.
Most of those don’t literally have the projectile tag, but it’s pretty obvious if you play quarterstaff builds that “melee” is not an accurate description in practice.
Okay, so you have an issue with melee not actually being melee? Explain to me then how do you expect to kill hundreds upon hundreds of enemies quickly if you can only hit a single enemy at a time? True melee cannot exist in an ARPG.
End of your screen with no aoe % or trade offs unlike mace
INTENTIONAL Combat
this shit is barely playable in endgame. It’s like the skills are made by wholly different team, that’s half a globe away from NZ and doesn’t communicate with the main office
based on what brother? I literally played a parry amazon this league and cleared ltierally all endgame content including 200% deli triple 5 mod tablet maps. 10+ boss rituals. Just cause you dont like somethig doesnt mean its not playable lmfao.
Parry, stances, perfect timing abilities all work incredibly well at endgame, its just a playstyle available and likely wont be forced onto you. Same way plenty of spear builds work today without any kind fo parrying etc.
Those german translations are 100% AI
Why are they pushing this fuck ass mechanic? Who is parrying enemies in endgame maps?
*We lowered the endgame mob density by 80%. We also slowed them down by 50%. To counter that we gave them 150% more HP and and 75% more damage
GGG still, somehow, assumes players fight 1-3 mobs at a time over 10 seconds. Like you do in the very first area and then never again
I like that play style
Same. Why some players can’t comprehend that not everything is going to click for them is beyond me.
I would also like tha5 play style. If the game would allow it and be balanced around it.
Yet, if you don’t explode everything in a 2 screen radius you just die within .23 seconds. Let’s not talk about bosses.
The game does allow for that if you dedicate some thought on defenses, unless you’re only basing things around the most giga-juiced and rippy content, in which case there’s very little that will seem “viable”.
More shitty fights that no one will play in the endgame…
