Yankees to promote Elmer Rodriguez for start vs. Astros
He’s got a 2.13 ERA across 9 starts (46.1 innings) since his last MLB appearance, he’s found some extra velo on his sinker and he’s upped his curveball usage. So i’m hopeful he looks good today, sounds like he’s been tinkering a lot.
he has the potential to make us look really stupid for moving him.
Eh I think the trade was fine. Narvaez was pretty good for a playoff team last year. Both teams traded a depth strength for a depth need
For one season.
He hit .225/.292/.376 for Boston and they flipped him for a catcher hitting .146/.255/.244
Is getting rid of your entire farm system for one year of a declining catcher good
In hindsight, sure.
Last year at this time, Sox fans were snickering about how they took the Yankees to the cleaners on that trade.
Another good example of how trades often can’t really be judged properly until well after they happen.
I mean Boston got Narvaez’s best year, and then moved Narvaez in a package for Rutschmann. Not bad.
That’s overstating his value. The trade for Rutschman was about cleaning out the Red Sox farm system. Narvaez was involved because the Os needed a catcher to replace him.
What about Jake Rogers?
Rogers went to the Sox with Rutschman, which was another reason the Os needed Narvaez.
I mean, obviously the Os thought Narvaez had more potential than Rogers (who is not really a starter), just saying that Narvaez was not really the point of that trade.
Bro, Narvaez was a throw in to give Baltimore a catcher. The orioles/red sox would have dont that trade without him.
Being a throw in to a deal isn’t exactly showing his value. If not him would’ve been another random depth piece catcher in their system
In 20 years Carlos will be telling people he was once traded for a former 1st overall pick. Don’t take that from him

This is just Alex’s glue huffing problematic younger brother.

I mean, yeah. It’s not his debut or anything, he’s been up before.
Be vewwy vewwy quiet, I’m hunting Ways
If he is bad is he Elmer Dudd?
I am whelmed
Why is this a post? He’s already been called up this year and he’s very meh.
Roy Halladay was sent all the way to single A. Mariano Rivera had an abysmal majors debut. Greg Maddux I believe was also sent to the minors before his 4 Cy Young run.
So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ maybe he’s improved.
His stats have. And he’s changed his pitching approach. More curve ball. Better speeds on one or both fastballs.
What’s your MLB era?
No idea why you got offended over my comment. Why would my personal baseball stats have any relevance?
First time seeing someone criticize an athlete or something?
Waaaaahhhh
?
Solid glue guy, so I’ve heard.
He’s gonna be the glue holding them together for a deep run
Hopefully he looks better this time round
Execute Order 66, Elmer.
Good luck we need you
Exciting stuff!
Meaning he might actually be a cyborg now like Mickey Gasper
Tough lineup to go against on a call up
GLUESTICK CLAP CLAP GLUESTICK CLAP CLAP
Yordan will welcome him
First Elmer in the bigs since 2010. Hopefully he can be a real glue guy in the Yankees clubhouse.
Edit: I’m the fourth one to make this joke already in this thread
A real glue guy
me hoping tonight’s start involves him shaking off the rust
So Cam can face the Red Sox, you guys nervous or something?
Wasn’t this guy ass the last time he started?
Many pitchers are ass when they first start. Not everyone is Schlittler. There was a guy by the name of Mariano Rivera that sucked when he first came up and had to be sent back down to AAA for a while. He ended up having a decent career. Pitching is hard.
He was rebuilt in AAA
He’s 23, he’s still developing
The Red Sox gave up: Elmer Rodriguez Anthony Eyanson Kyson Witherspoon Harold Rivas Enddy Azocar
For: One year of Carlos Narváez (2.8 fWAR in 2025, traded to Orioles) One more year of Adley Rutschman (43 wRC+ and -0.1 fWAR, “elbow soreness”)
Three top 100 prospects (and one soon to be top 100 prospect) in exchange for two seasons of catching. Bad.
