The crazy thing is that they’re gonna put up a combined 200 career WAR with 0 MVPs
I know people don’t want to agree but the voters don’t seem to care, so Bregman should be included as well, which will push that beyond 250 with 0 MVPs.
But hes also got a lot more work to do in his 30s than the other guys. But 47 WAR with a decent amount of hardware gets you a lot of the way there.

He’s an interesting case for sure; if he keeps producing (and being a good leader), then I think he probably gets in bc there will be enough distance from 2017 by the time he does retire.
I’m pretty sure he won a college World Series with LSU too (not sure that matters in the context of HoF voting, but it shows he’s always been a winner at high levels even before the trash can incident).
He will need cross off a handful of milestone type numbers. None of which are locks on their own, but when all done together the company gets smaller and smaller and smaller quickly. He is well within range of most of them.
If he just halves his production on the way out here and stays healthy enough to do that, you are looking at a guy with 60+ WAR with 2000 hits, 1200 runs, 1000 rbis, 300 homers, 450 doubles, and then he also has some notable things like never striking out 100 times in a season and never had below a 100 OPS+ which is a rare mix of consistency.
He could also have one injury and never have another decent season and then he wouldn’t be all that close at all. But assuming he can even play just another 500+ career games, hes very well positioned.

He’s just in the same age bucket and ~10 WAR behind that trio. I think, he will probably be borderline and he’s going to be compared to J-ram, Manny, and Arenado.
Right now he has the highest career WRC+ (132) but 2018 + 2019 are doing a lot of heavy lifting there, he isn’t going to have the Crawford boxes for the rest of his 30s. He’s never been a big batspeed guy and I have to imagine that mid-30s is when that seriously starts to impact his power numbers.
The comparison is huge. I feel like many guys don’t get in because of the other people around them in their era. And we’re talking about 4 3B here, not just 4 guys from the same era.
Bregman, to me, has to do a lot before he retires to make it in. In fact, even if he does a lot, there’s still the cheating to consider.
Beltran made it, and even if he was the mastermind, his body of work pre-scandal was already pretty much a HoF lock.
I’m hesitant to open this particular box (or trash can, if you will), but I agree: Beltran being part of the 2017 Astros was a footnote on a HoF career.
2017 was Bergman’s first full season.
The cheating scandal didn’t come to light until 2019.
2018 + 2019 are Bergman’s best seasons (by far).
He averaged ~8 bWAR player those two seasons and the rest of his career he’s averaged ~4.
It’s not evidence of wrong doing, but it’s a little different than Beltran being part of the scandal in his final (age 40) season.
The 3B HOF needs more 3B still the least number around the diamond.

Same reason Josh Naylor can, good jumps. Also helps that our first base coach is Sandy Alomar, as a former catcher he reads pitchers really well for our players to get good jumps.
juan soto had 38 SBs last year and josh naylor has 25 this year - it’s more about reading the pitcher and knowing when to go than it is about raw speed

This is pretty crazy actually. I didn’t realize that there’s just never been a big steals guy at 3rd.
all those grey guys in the 1900-10s with Jose looking to be 50% more than the bottom 2 modern guys but those were 80s era guys which was another everyone was running era.
He truly stands alone as far as 3B goes.

Man I remember seeing this list back in like 09 and Chone Figgins was on pace for like 500 or something and it was insane… Then he never played well again. Jose’s resilience and longevity at the top of his game has been awesome.
