Seriously this shit is tough to watch. Dude is so far gone and in desperate need of help from serious professionals. I hate to imply somebody needs to be institutionalized because I’m sure that entails a bunch of horrible consequences but man, this definitely looks and sounds like some sort of very heavy psychosis. I hope someone gets through to him that shit looks genuinely scary.

As a fellow Oregonian who watched him play and hoped he’d land with the blazers some day, this is sad to see. I hope he gets the help he needs soon. So many others facing this in the world as well. Ugh.

I used to work at a drug detox. Met many people who acted like Kyle is acting now. Of course I could be wrong, but I’m getting big meth binge vibes. We’d get people who were coming off huge benders and they’d have paranoid delusions and even visual hallucinations, thinking the FBI was waiting in cars outside the detox. His demeanor and appearance also just scream meth use

Unfortunately OKC ranks 4th in the nation for methamphetamine use, so it’s pretty easy for Kyle to feed his psychosis.

ATP, he may need to be involuntarily committed. As long as this has been going on, it’s not going to end well unfortunately….

I know money isn’t everything, but he must have received some bad advice if he blew through $20+ million in career earnings. Hopefully someone who cares about him makes a call and gets him the intervention and help he needs.

This dude was one of my basketball heroes growing up, I loved him as a young Duke fan. This is hard to watch for sure and I’m hoping he is able to get help soon

Wonder if he had some repressed childhood trauma that started to come up once his career slowed down.

He needs to be forced into some help by family members or other trusted relationships. Easier said than done. I think Delonte West has gone through the cycle of despair and wellness a number of times.

Singler is in such a better place than most Americans though. If he decides he’s ready for help, of course. He made over \(20mm in his NBA career. As an 11 year NBA veteran, he has lifetime premium health insurance benefits, including mental health (for him and his family if he has one). He'll also get the maximum annual benefit if he can wait until 62 (hopefully he didn't go through all of the money he made) which is over \)200k per year for life.

Don’t let him become the next Delonte.

Users manipulate and it’s time he hits rock bottom and stops being helped. That’s when he can finally make a change. Those around him need to continue to stop enabling this.

Did he have any signs of this while he was playing

Kyle is reportedly 6’7” and around 140 pounds. I hope he gets the help he is asking for.

Why is he out of jail/treatment? Last year he got charged in a domestic dispute where he threatened rape.

He also reportedly has turned down offers from Duke people in the past, which makes the coach K stuff super weird.

I knew a very talented Jiu Jitsu athlete and coach. Kids and adults loved him. Around age 25-26, he started acting different. His social media changed. His erratic behavior cost him his coaching job.

I can speculate on if he experienced symptoms of schizophrenia first or experimented with drugs first. Not sure which came first. It changed him and his social media behavior mirrors Singler’s behavior. It is important Singler gets help as soon as possible.

Aw, hell, Hubs and I met this guy maybe six or seven months ago at a flea market in OKC. Exchanged some friendly chatter while I sold him maybe \(15-20 worth of merchandise and he gave us \)200. He seemed a little off mentally and we tried to give the change back, but he insisted we keep it. Later learned he had given several other vendors up to $2000 in similar kinds of deals and that he had once been a Thunder player. He turned up a couple of more times afterward but we never interacted with him again. Hate to see this; hope he gets the help he needs.

He’s clearly an addict. Yes, mental health is what probably led him there but just saying this is mental health trivializes those with anxiety who proactively try to better themselves. Drug addiction an mental health are correlated but not the same thing.
