Despite all the crazy pitchers Cleveland has had, there are only 5 immaculate innings - Gavin Williams, Enyel De Los Santos, Zach Plesac, Justin Masterson, and Carlos Carrasco
Some decent names obviously, but none of the guys most people think of as the best pitchers for the franchise and a couple that you really wouldn’t expect
all fairly recent too granted it probably is easier to do now given the strikeout rates now vs when say, bob feller was pitching for them

It is worth noting that any pitch-by-pitch data before 1988 is considered incomplete unless someone was specifically tracking that pitcher or game for some reason. Even then, there are some gaps in pitch-by-pitch until the pitch tracking era, which is 2008 to now.
Tbf we really haven’t prioritized strikeouts over the years. There are multiple seasons where we didn’t even have two pitchers reaching triple digit Ks

It is highly dependent on the hitters involved and just a statistical thing. A pitcher could get 3 groundouts in 3 pitches.
Its like an inside the park HR. Okay cool, but is kind of reliant on the other party playing a part as well.

He executed 9 pitches all for strikes against major leaguers which is impressive, but obviously if it happened again one of them would have been hit

of course, but a home run can be the result of getting a bad pitch thrown vs the previous batter only receiving perfect pitches. or a pitcher can throw a perfect pitch which is hit for a home run while an opposing pitcher throws a middle middle slider with no slide that is whiffed. everything in baseball requires both sides so that argument doesn’t make much sense

Immaculate inning is a battle between the batter and pitcher only.
The pitcher is the one that strikes them out. If it were a 3 pitch inning, that means that the fielders are fielding is involved and the batter put the ball in play.
A 3 pitch inning is efficient, but a team requires fielding effort. A 9 pitch inning with 3 strike outs is a man out there on a hill holding the other team off all by himself and the batter can’t do anything to put it in play.
Edit for niche case and to clarify.
A pitcher needs to have a 3-pitch inning where all contact just comes right back to the pitcher for unassisted outs at 1B just to prove you wrong.
Still requires fielding. But yes you are technically correct, the best kind of correct.

He has incredible stuff and no idea where that stuff is going most of the time. When he has command, he’s great. When he doesn’t, he gives up a lot of walks and hard contact.

That last strike was questionable but how much of an asshole would you have to be to challenge an immaculate inning? That’s gotta be an unwritten rule.
It’s fair game imo. As a pitcher you pitch to get outs, and as a batter you bat to not get out. And this ump was challenged about 6 times in the game so it was really could’ve been overturned
