Sometimes I think Morel is a conscientious time traveler who is trying to get himself into as many random highlight reels and “oh yeah, that guy, I love that guy” conversations across multiple fanbases with as little overall notoriety as possible. That way he can have a fun little life without Jean Claude Van Damme hunting him down.

Why does Murphy do that so much? I don’t see him doing it with veteran players. If I remember correctly, didn’t he pull a rookie pitcher Mid at bat?…. That was wild
I’m fairly old school for a guy in his late 30s and I just don’t see how that’s beneficial in the moment. I personally believe it has more opportunity for a negative outcome than a positive one, especially for someone that’s a competitor in the heat of the moment. He did that with Sproat, I believe, who is now back in the minors. It seemed to me like he couldn’t find the ball off the bat, saw it, ran, and second guessed himself on going to second once the ball was kicked around in shallow right. You could tell he was mad at himself and that he screwed up in that moment. However, I’m not the 2x manager of the year with the best record in baseball so I’ll concede to Murph here again.
It’s honestly pretty frustrating. You’re right that he seems to play favorites on who he holds accountable. Like I remember within the last couple of weeks an instance where Yeli made no effort to run out a grounder. Murph would never do something like this to him. And on some level I can understand a manager thinking younger players need messages more than established vets, but even the times he chooses for that feel hamfisted at times.
Like last night the thing with Pratt is perplexing. There was a stupid bunt attempt earlier that factored into it as well, but the play that got him pulled it’s hard for me to see how he did anything that damning. And it wound up costing us in the end. But I doubt Murph learns anything from it himself.
What I don’t get is that pratts hit was totally a shank that he thought was way foul. I’m pretty sure most other players would have tried to find it too
Yeah, he did that to Sproat. He had thrown back to back wild pitches & was justifiably sent to Nashville the next day. He did it to Gasser last week. As far as pitchers go, he gets perturbed when they cant throw strikes. It’s why Bryce Wilson is still on the team - he throws slop middle middle & dares teams to swing lol.
