Westbrook has a ton of game winners. He was a really excellent player for a very long time.

This the one. Seeing him get blocked by a 39 year old Manu Ginobili and try to beg for the foul call on a clean block convinced me he’d always be a playoff choker. His foul baiting made him look great in season but in the playoffs the game gets called differently. That’s why he always fell off in the playoffs when it mattered most in his prime.

Westbrook had his weaknesses but lack of clutch was NOT one of them.

He might cost you games with the occasional bone head play, stat stuffing, or difficulty getting other guys involved (he and KD had a lot of “my turn, your turn” in their offense), but crunch time “go get a bucket” was one of his best skills.

During his era the league as a whole had a lower fg%. For a guard it wasn’t abnormal to shoot 44-46%, if you shot over 47% as a guard then that was highly efficient and most star guards didn’t really do that, especially if they were shooters and not just mostly paint scorers. Different era

Because it was a different time where volume scorers were encouraged to take tons of shots with high degrees of difficulty, no one was sweating efficiency like that and they’d rather have Kobe shooting over a triple team than some guys shooting one on one

Literally had 8 game winning shots in 1 season (maybe more, i may have gotten it mixed up) , but this added 8 wins the Lakers needed for the higher seed in the playoffs.

But a lot of that was lower offensive efficiency in the league as a whole, and Kobe in particular forcing a lot of tough contested ones.

Kobe took way too many bad shots, but if you need to force a shot (as buzzer beaters usually are), that was his best skill.
