Canada beats South Korea 5-1 in one of the biggest upsets of all time at the little league World Series
Woohoo
Korean sports aren’t having a good year….
WBC team got pantsed in the quarters, World Cup team got bounced in the groups, Winter Olympic team had the same number of gold medals as such winter wonderlands as Australia and Great Britain, and now this…
South Korea is permanently nerfed at the Winter Olympics now that the Netherlands care about short track speed skating (instead of just long track)
Ever since Apollo Ohno stepped into that guy’s lane, South Korea seems to get screwed at every Winter Olympics. Once you take the Koreapill you see it everywhere
Russia still hasn’t returned Kim Yuna’s gold medal.

cuz they dirty as shit
At least there’s archery to look forward to in a couple years!
Making it out of the group stage at all was a decent outcome and they were always gonna get killed in Miami
To be fair they ran into the DR and this was their best wbc result since 2009 after an insane, improbable and hard fought group stage escape
Still upset resellers didn’t go below $800.00/ticket after Korea shit the bed in the World Cup group matches (including gifting Canada a knockout match at SoFi).
i got 4 ~$550 CAD tickets for the R32 game. canadian supporter section tho
When did you look? I was able to get tickets under \(400 tickets for the Canada-South Africa game shortly after Korea blew it. I saw tons of tickets well below \)800
Got $600 something and it was in the 100 section but I was seeing similar for the 500 section. You just had to be looking at the right time
FUCK HONG
Kang-In Lee scored in his first appearance for athletico so he’s doing well
Hwang In-Beom has a trophy and an assist so far for Porto
my cousin’s team got upset like that once too
This > 2026 olympic gold medal game/2025 WS
2025 World Series? Didn’t we win that after the Bo home run and Jeff Hoffman closed out the 9th effortlessly? Right? Right???

Yep, we won 4-3, Hoffman got the save (ignore the records and runs/inning)
It is disturbing how much relief this actually brings me.
No, but at least that Bautista bat flip won the 2015 series right??
What a glorious day for Canada, and therefore of course, the world
I hope we get to face Canada South in the Finals!
(Making fun of orange man if not obvious)
Canada plays Japan tomorrow,
winner plays the loser of Nicaragua vs Curaçao
Winner of that game plays the winner from Nic vs Curaçao in the international final.
And finally the winner of THAT game plays the winner of the US bracket for the championship
It’s chill. We get it
The 8th province. Or however fucking many of there are currently i forget…
11th province…or we make them 4th territory
Fudge that.
They can have a seat on Sarnia city council
Orange what? That fat fuck sack of shit is no man
Good job kids. Trip to the ice cream shop is gonna result in 2 cones tonight
Chapmans for all.
Make it Kawartha
Moose Tracks flavour!
Two scoops is the size of their heads
Shaw’s
Foothills
Island farms. The team is out of Vancouver
Well in that case we should eally take them to La Casa gelato. Can’t go wrong choosing from 238 flavours.
Earnest it is
But Chapman plays for the Giants now! /s
That’s a good stick
Sticks are unbelievable
I think the kids are old enough to have grown out of the Aroldis Chapman phase
Is that what they call ice cream made from breast milk?
When the fuck did we get ice cream
Korea tried to steal second base with the bases loaded and two outs.
Canada threw the ball to first then back to home and ended up getting the runner from third going home out.
Like, what?
Just second? With the bases loaded?
You can’t steal an already taken base, I’m confused
I was confused why the runner was going. I was confused why the catcher threw the ball to first.
I guess South Korea was trying to steal a run down by 4?
They were, they executed the “runner falls down at first to bait the defense into a rundown while the runner on third scores” maneuver except Canada didn’t fall for it and threw home for the out
So you’re playing for one run in a 4 run game?
I mean, they’re 12 years old with some kids’ dad as a coach.
Their manager actually played in the KBO
yeah pretty much
I mean, that’s the definition of playing small ball though. Which we praise endlessly everywhere.
Yeah, running into outs is praised endlessly everywhere.
“playing for one run in a four run game” is the reference for why I made that statement. But yeah, go off fam.
Why not throw to first? It’s closer than second, so easier to throw back when the runner on third commits. It’s not like R1 will be safe on second anyway.
You left out the most important part that makes it even worse… they did this with their cleanup hitter at the plate 💀
I know a lot of the Asian teams that come to Williamsport rely on small ball and hoping the other team makes mistakes but at some point you have to play normal baseball.
It’s like they’re playing in little league
Not quite what happened.
It was a set play. The Korean runner hesitated after taking his secondary lead to try to draw a back-pick throw from the catcher, which was successful. As soon as the back-pick was thrown, all other runners attempted to steal.
The Canadian first baseman saw and got the ball back to the catcher in time for the out at home.
Korea’s starter lasted 4 pitches, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits.
Canada didn’t get their first hit until extra innings in their last game.
Korea also had a dominant win against Canada 7-0 a couple of days ago.
They pulled him after 3 batters??
Yeah
What’s the best legal way to watch the tournament in Canada?
TSN
Thank you
Big week for Canada
Woohoo! Congrats to the kids down the street from me!
My son is friends with a bunch of kids in that league, and I’m sure they’re psyched.
me 24 hours ago
The LLWS is important for kids but it’s really weird how much media coverage it gets
me now
Whoooo, take that, Korean children!

That last strikeout was super satisfying after the Korean batters were waving their bats in the strike zone to try and distract the pitcher
I watched the highlight and it looked like they were all squaring to bunt every pitch. It didn’t seem to be waving but I don’t really get the point of it. If anything it just would throw off your own timing?
One of em absolutely waved the hell out of their bat over the plate for the full pitch basically lol. Like waved it up and down.
Trying to distract yeah. And yes it absolutely fucks with the batter too.
Let’s gooo Little Mountain
Id rather lose to Canada than america.
Well you were 5 wins away from having a chance to lose to America so you weren’t particularly close to having that happen either.
You’re right, however this team was easily top 5 in the tournament and a favorite to win it and to lose to Little Mountain is crazy
Oh ya I looked through their qualifying and Korea was absurdly dominant. Both them and Taiwan basically shut out everyone and won by 10+ in every game until they played each other.
Very good team for sure I just found OP’s comment to be weird considering how far away from that reality they were.
True
I think you misread my comment.
I took it to mean as a Korean fan you’d prefer to lose to Canada than America.
What was I missing?
I guess you got it . The reply was just strange
Username checks out
Upset?
Have we forgotten Tugboat already? This is destiny
Score one for the maple syrup kids
I hope my flair makes it clear I’m excited.
Pretty big upset, eh?
+1200
How much of a degenerate society have we become that there’s gambling odds for a baseball game for 11 and 12 year olds….
Also, LFG CANADA!
Can we not post gambling odds about a game involving children? Just feels extra icky.
Just showing how big of an upset it truly was
Which can be accomplished by not showing (or even looking up) the gambling odds for a game involving children.
C’mon. I don’t endorse gambling but it’s an easy way to see just how big of an upset it was, when most of us have no idea how good either team was.
If the odds were 2:1 for instance, I wouldn’t think this was a big deal. If they were 100:1 I’d think it was a monumental upset.
EDIT: I mean, how else would you show how big of an upset it was? They’re all 11 - 12 year old kids that we know virtually nothing about.
I don’t want to know the odds of any game that involves fucking children. It’s disgusting there are even gambling odds on the game in the first place.
How would you show how big of an upset it is then lol
You could mention how South Korea beat Canada 7-0 earlier in the tournament. It’s pretty easy to not use gambling odds on a kid’s game. Not sure what is so difficult to understand about this.
Brewers beat Mariners 22-0. Next game, Mariners won 7-5. Was that the upset of a lifetime then?
I agree. National regulation on gambling is sorely needed. For a myriad of reasons, but one of which to prevent betting on something played by children.
But it’s out there. And revealing it just to show the magnitude of an upset isn’t a big deal.
And revealing it just to show the magnitude of an upset isn’t a big deal.
Disagree. You can just not look up the information at all.
Ok. So how do YOU convey how big of an upset this was?
The odds are there and are made by people who know what they’re doing. It’s a lot more informative than “yeah brother they were underdogs”.
The odds are made by degenerates gambling on a children’s game.
The odds are made by mathematicians and computers so people can gamble on children. Important distinction.
The odds are influenced by degenerates’ gambling behaviors.
They aren’t. They’re influenced by data. If you’re going to hate something at least know what you’re talking about. Gambling is a regulated industry, you don’t get to just set odds however you feel in response to the market. That’s what Kalshi and Polymarket do, not actual bookies.
Goooooooo Little Mountain!!
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Former Hastings Little League Vancouverite here saluting these fine young gentlemen
I can’t tell you how happy I am that the little league I played for just did this.
INVESTIGATE THE KOREAN COACH
LETS GOOOO
Joey Votto should be the team mascot.
Heck yeah, awesome result for the Canadian kids!
Canada really came out swinging. A 5-1 upset at this stage is wild.
The kids are gonna be alright
Good job Canada
tbh not very surprised
South Korea stinks at baseball and soccer pretty bad
They’re in the elimination bracket
It ain’t an upset. It’s the expectation.
Global warming has turned the hockey capital of the world into a baseball country.
I’m pretty sure that youth s*ccer is unfortunately more popular than baseball here.
It may depend on the part of the country. I’m in Manitoba and was heavily involved in minor baseball. My area has more registrations each year for baseball than any other sport including hockey for the past 7 years.
I mean… We did better than expected in the WBC (and so did our World Cup team!), and now this, so… 🇨🇦
At the adult level it’d be an upset, but this is little league.
Canada actually has more kids (15 and under) than Korea does, in spite of a lower population, because Korea has the lowest fertility rate in the world. Program-wise, Korea might be a better baseball country, but it’s not inconceivable that we can field a better starting lineup of kids. All it takes is 1 really good pitcher.
It’s still a gigantic upset. Korea was favoured to win the International bracket, and they beat Canada 7-0 earlier in the tournament
The thing is, it’s little league baseball.
How much analysis can possibly be done on little leaguers? They’re 11 and 12 year olds. One of them might play shitty because he’s homesick. He hasn’t gotten used to jet lag. Or anything.
Canada used their best pitcher to beat Panama yesterday and lost 7-0 to South Korea in their first game. It’s a pretty big upset no matter which way you spin it.
