Klay Thompson on where he is now physically in comparison to 3-4 years ago.
“I can do it at a high level. The durability for me has been huge plus… it’s nice to walk on the floor and play free-minded”.
The offseason:
Where everyone is in the greatest shape of their life and their team can compete with anybody on any given night.
I mean these guys didn’t get to the big leagues by thinking they are mediocre
Now I’m wondering who is the best player with imposter syndrome lol
MPJ
Not Ben Simmons?
Nah, that’s the right answer. I didn’t even think of him lol
This has to be the answer lmao
The young socialite?
Steven Adams
Mobley
Not a meme answer, but I think Jabari Smith Jr.
Seems to have all the physical tools and skills, but might be in his own head confidencewise
I’m the same age as him and I’d be saying the same thing as him right now
I’m around there as well and all I gotta say is those teams better watch out whenever I get signed
You realize he’s on your team right lol
Yeah, just pointing out that we get these templated answers from every offseason press conference.
tbf hes not saying hes currently in the best shape of his career or watever. hes saying hes got 5 weeks to do it lmao
Tbf he didnt do much last year haha. So MAYBE he’s extra rested.
We’ll see 3 months in lol
just like how we get the same comment as yours every conference thread
You’re allowed to be a fan and look at your team objectively at the same time
So you think Ballmer’s guilty?
Obviously
Apparently lotta people on your sub disagree haha
The majority of people on most team subs are morons
Lmao perhaps
They do have a hulk… I mean a Giannis…
And where everyone put on 20 pounds of muscle
Ben Simmons has never missed a 3 in the offseason
He’s averaged 72 games per year over the last 4 years, and he said he needs to step it up because of the conditioning test in 5 weeks. I don’t think he really said anything egregious.
In all fairness, every player should feel healthy during the offseason, that’s the whole point of the offseason.
The test is if you can stay healthy throughout the season when there’s games and travel and unexpected bullshit.
Prime Klay was incredibly durable and a very high level perimeter defender. He probably would still be good in both areas if he didn’t blow his ACL and Achilles at the tail end of an extremely demanding run of 4 straight years playing October to June
That’s the thing that was so mind boggling about Lebrons health, 8 straight runs to the finals, hell 9 finals in 10 years and he’s mostly held up.
More than mostly, he’s never missed a playoff game in his career
I remember he badly sprained his ankle, his ankle touched the floor. Everyone thought he was done for the game. LeBron just tightened his shoe laces and kept playing like nothing happened.
Sorry, I’m probably being an idiot, but what does “his ankle touched the door” mean?
floor
Sorry typo, his ankle bent so badly it touched the floor
LeBron is like the cheerleader in Heroes. (RIP)
Wtf that is a wild stat.
Only one comment deep and you managed to shoehorn LeBron into a post about klay. Bravo
Not defensively he hasn’t.
I don’t know. Any other 36 year old guards still elite defenders?
Believe it was 5 straight years from 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019
Just SHOOT the ball Klay. Stop trying to prove you’re still that guy. Become Danny Green 2.0
Danny Green on the lakers??
Danny Green on the Raptors up until the playoffs started.
I don’t know if his defence and overall bbiq is on that level (right now, I know Klay used to be an elite defender)
Hard when a stupid team doesn’t give him the chance
I think this will be good for him. In Golden State he was trying to prove he was still the guy he was before back to back injuries and that’s a very difficult transition for an elite athlete.
In Dallas he was trying to prove he could do it without the Warriors and be an elite player and still trying to figure out how to play to his new physical reality.
Now in Miami I think he realizes he’s in the twilight of his career and has much less external and internal pressure. His legacy is secure and he can have lesser responsibilities and just enjoy playing basketball in the NBA in an amazing city. I bet he has a good year.
he could still actually do it in dallas. it’s just that silver is stupid, nico is stupid, the mavs org is stupid by letting go of luka
Yeah he was good in Dallas there was just so much turmoil lol. Klay/Kai/DLive/Luka/PJ core only played like 100 minutes together before injuries and Nico Harrison blew it all up
His biggest problem in GS was that he was at his best coming off the bench. But we didn’t have a starter that was better than him. That’s a little tougher on the ego. Sure. You’ll come off the bench if a new 26 year old SG star is taking that role. But not for Podz or Moody or even Melton.
Came back from 2 career ending injuries… won a chip the same year he came back.
Name another Athlete that’s done that same in any sport?
Cam Akers tore his Achilles before the start of training camp on July 20th, then returned that same season for the Super Bowl. Had 16 touches and they won.
It’s not the exact same, nor was he all that good. But it’s always stood out to me as one of the more batshit-insane decisions ever.
All this guy has to do is shoot. If he shoots 38 percent from 3 the Heat will be a dangerous team.
Klays reactions are so funny man
Yeah he’ll play free minded in Miami…
He was miserable in Dallas. There could be a change in Miami
If he could do it at a high level then he would be on a contender with a fat contract.
Instead he’s on a dumpster fire of a team with a shit contract.
Did he get that shirt from his dad’s closet
We gone see, champ
Even post-injuries, he is still shooting around 38% from 3PT range. Offensively, his biggest thing will be adjusting to Giannis who effectively plays a heliocentric-type offense similar to Luka in Dallas. In the 20 some games with Luka, Klay shot 40% from three, so the potential is there. Drawback is going to be spacing when Bam is also on the floor. If it’s just Giannis, I’m sure he’ll be fine.
Defensively….it might be the deciding factor. It’s a lot of pressure on Giannis defensively, so Spo might put in Bam to balance, but then the spacing is off and you lose Klays offense.
Guess we’ll see
Hasn’t been particularly great since the acl and Achilles and these last two years have been rather mediocre due to inconsistency. We’ll see though.
I thought he joined the magic for a moment there with this background
Cmon klay. You’re still an elite 3 pt shooter but you’re not near the player you once were
