This statement applies to Richards pretty well. Even if he has an amazing PG feeding him the ball, he’s still terrible at everything defensively and an awful defensive rebounder.

You’d live with his mistakes and think he has potential if he was 20 and still learning the game… But he turns 29 just after the season starts. There are likely plenty of younger Nick Richardses hanging around the D-League every year.

The UFA centers that are left are guys on the cusp of retirement, undersized bigs who are barely in the league, or Drew Eubanks. They could try to get Yabusele and see if they can get something out of him, but I think a traditional 7 footer is the safe choice. If you can get Nick Richards on a minimum, he will do for now I guess.

I don’t blame JJ for Gabe, the role he was being asked was not what he was good at but that was due to bad roster construction. He also had a bunch of injuries these years he was with us that it was hard to get consistency from him.

That said, Spo is elite and will maximize a player while in the court. The heat need a vet ball handler and he can give a few minutes doing that.
