If Klay is having an off night and goes 0-4, Heat arent reliant on just him, we can swap in THJ, Larsson, swing it to wiggins, Davion, Font who all had a 38+ 3pt% last year.

The roster still has holes, and Klay isnt 2016 warriors Klay, but we dont need him to be. Hes more like 2013 Ray Allen. He helps with the spacing and if hes off we have other guys who can be subbed to do what we need him to do.

If we were the nuggets and got demar with literally no backups and had to rely on him as a main scorer then I see a bigger issue. But as his role is now, he gets incredibly well imo.

Citing his Dallas stats as proof actually reinforces OP’s point. What if Dallas never needed him in the first place? What if he wasn’t happy there? What if he didn’t click with the team/system? That’s why OP was hypothesizing that he might fit in with the Heat, You can’t use his Dallas stats to define him. The whole idea of the “missing piece” concept is that a player who looks useless in one situation can be valuable in another. Just because he struggled in Dallas doesn’t mean no team can ever leverage his remaining talent. Not every team is Dallas. Now you may be right, he may also end up being trash with the Heat, but until we see it play out, it’s fine to hypothesize

Klay did not play 11 minutes per game. You’re confusing his ppg with his minutes played.

He had 8 games last year where he scored over 20 and a bunch more in the high teens. 4 years ago he was averaging 21 on the team that is in your flair. What are you even trying to argue? All they need Klay to do is space the floor for like 15-20 minutes a game and for that he is getting slightly more than the minimum. He is a decent depth piece that fills a need which is all the person you are replying to said.

Just my opinion. 🤷‍♂️ Him being the guy and leading a team wIth the best defenders on him most nights, shooting like that. He was doing that in an era where 3 point shooting wasn’t the focus, the game was much slower and (yes the good ole) defense was more physical. He may not be the defender Klay was (except against Kobe) but he was better at creating his shots. 

Later on he had Klay’s role on a stacked team and he was great at that too due to already being elite at getting to his spots and off-ball movement. Feels like he was a better midrange shooter, is a better FT shooter and less of his shots were assisted. Although 2 less rings but he held the 3pt record after Reggie in that era. Hit the clutchest shot in NBA history (imo). Him and Nash would’ve thrived in the current era.

The team probably isn’t going to be very good, so I assume the people that wanted him to go back (personally I did not care) probably just wanted him to do that because it’s a feelgood thing, not because of anything he might bring to the team basketball wise.

You keep trying to make this point all over this thread and nobody agrees. Klay is a legendary 3 point shooter past his prime that still commands gravity who is going to average double digits and shoot 38-40% next to an unstoppable paint force that also commands immense gravity.

We don’t need to tell you, a Warriors fan, how shooting is one of the last skills to leave a player, as Curry averages 25 ppg into age 40. The Heat needed shooters. It got one of the top 3 in history for 5 million a year. This was an excellent move. He doesn’t need to be Warriors Klay for this to be the case.

I don’t think he wanted to be in Dallas they’re a rebuilding team. He’s also kinda toxic. Good as in he could potentially help certain teams, but everyone knew him and DeMar were gonna be bought out, and he’s not at all helpful for a rebuilding team. Klay is not the guy you want as a mentor lol, DeMar would actually be great for that.

18 mil is a lot to give a non starter, this is one of the most “harsh” times in the past couple decades in terms of salaries as percentage of the cap, bc of the current CBA teams are terrified of overpaying guys and of being in the 2nd apron or repeater tax.

It’s a far cry from the big 3 nets, ishbia suns, ballmer clippers when they were all in, okc pg melo, gsw dynasty team etc era(s) now. Look no further than Denver trading away Peyton Watson and MPJ. It’s not even about how good those players are in a vacuum, historically when you have a guy like Jokic and you’re already a contender you’d at least slightly overpay to keep those guys around, at least one of them. Same with Boston and the Js. Heck the twolves trading away KAT even.

When he was “that guy” he was absolutely worth a regular max, if not a super max. Now he’s nowhere near that but I could still see him maybe being useful for a contender, ironically in a Steve Kerr type role. Ofc it’s possible he’s declined even more and isn’t even worth being a spot rotation guy.
