Trying to be objective as a Pistons fan there : Ant has shown to be able to reach crazy heights as both a scorer and an on ball defender, can those highs just become more consistent before his athleticism starts to fade is my question.
Cade is way more consistent on both ends and of course is a way better playmaker even if right now I’m a bit worried that his lack of explosion/ability to finish kinda caps his ceiling (to be fair given how insanely good the 5 best players in the league are right now, it’s kinda hard to see anyone reaching that level until one of them declines).

Cade is pretty consistent yeah with the (many) goods and (way fewer) bads, he’ll score on good-ish nothing special efficiency and he’ll have his turnovers, like he will rarely give you like 40 on 70%TS, he will also always be impactful because of his floor game.

Ant will look like prime Steph Curry and prime T-Mac at the same time sometimes, but he’ll also have games when he looks like he just doesn’t really use his athleticism

That’s starting from the standpoint that Ant averages 5 more points then Cade on better efficiency, Cade having more games with less then 20pts or more inefficient games then Ant is logical given that it’s a pretty big gap in scoring already.

I’m just saying that Cade has a way more consistent floor game but less ability to explode, he’s not close to Ant as a shooter, or as finisher but he’ll give you non scoring positives every game. He’ll have the occasional game when the scoring efficiency is SO bad that it’s a really bad game but IMO it’s rarer then Ant whose floor game flucuates more (and who also takes so many threes that even as an insane shooter will have some ³⁄₁₁ shooting games from there like every shooter in history)

I don’t think it’s as obvious as people are making it. If I already have a primary playmaker, I’m probably taking Ant because of the athleticism, scoring pressure and proven playoff ceiling. But if I’m starting a franchise completely from scratch I might take Cade because he can be both your #1 scorer and the guy who runs your entire offense. Really depends on the roster around them.

Ant has unquestionably accomplished more in the playoffs but that’s not automatically the same thing as proving he’s the better individual franchise cornerstone.

Would love to see them both play together. Hopefully in the 2028 Olympics

Holy off season post - these two aren’t really comparable players. If I asked who to take between prime Magic or Kobe the answer probably depends on how you want to build your roster. Do you want an oversized guard that can pass/create, or would you rather have a scoring focused wing?

Personally, I don’t think either team would trade their star for the other here. As a fan, Cade is INCREDIBLY easy to root for. Says and does all the right things both on and off the court. Ant is the more accomplished player thus far, but some of these comments clearly didn’t watch Cade have to play with Killian Hayes STARTING, and some of the worst floor spacing in the league not too long ago.

Cade, I feel that a big PG who can create/pass and score is easier to build around. I’d say they’re similar caliber of player so that’s my differentiator.

Ant has had more success, but he’s had a really good team around him so I can’t go too hard on that factor.

They’re kind of inverse of each other, we saw how not having scorers/creators affected Cade’s success, he was getting hounded against the Magic/Cavs. And then we saw the last few years with how not having a good PG/creator has stifled the Wolves at points.

They had a .297 winning % before Ant and went to a .319% the year after. Don’t forget they drafted Jayden in 2020 too. And Naz in 2019. All very important core pieces who grew together. And of course KAT/Randle (21/6/5 before you poop on Randle too much).

Then they got Gobert and the first year was meh, but they went to the WCF the 2nd and 3rd Gobert years.

This is not to try and admonish Ant, but it’s disingenuous to mention WCF and not acknowledge he had a solid team around him.

Also keep in mind ant and Cade tied for 7th in MVP last year and Cade was higher than him this year. It’s not end-all, be-all, but it shows I’m not the only one thinking this way.

Ya Ayos great unfortunately Ant has only played like 20 games with him and only 6 playoff games with him due to injuries to both of them. So we will see how having guards of Ayo and Lamelos caliber will help him.

Both players can succeed with the right personnel around them.

They both have different strengths with Anthony being a score first shooting guard while Cade looks to run the offense for the team as a whole.

Its no knock on ant he’s a much more proven player given his playoff history, but Cade will always be able to offer more with the way he can transform the teams offense as a playmaker than ant can as a scorer. It’s just the way the sport is. Not to mention Cade can also score almost as well as ant albeit less efficiently and can defend at a similar enough level. This is neither of their final forms but I can imagine Cade will be a perennial mvp candidate while ant just can’t have the same impact as a mostly pure shooting guard.

Pistons guy here but I agree. I LOVE ant. A beast. But Cade is a leader. I love seeing videos of other pistons saying, they love Cade as a leader and want to play with him their whole career. But maybe Ant has that too.

I’m biased but it’s Cade every time. Ant is great and has become more and more efficient and has probably a higher ceiling when it comes to scoring volume, but he also relies on explosiveness to the rim and free up the three ball for himself, and his knees have and will continue to be an issue.

Cade is more mature, a better leader, a playoff riser (ant is too), and more versatile offensively, probably a slightly worse defender, but still not a negative.

Cades missed 138 games in 4 seasons. Ants missed 50 games in 5. Trying to frame it like Ant is an injury risk because of two knee injuries (which have healed). While Cade isn’t is crazy

he hasnt though? one was a freak hyperextension and runners knee isn’t particularly unheard of, this isn’t something you can see for literally one season and just call it something that’ll sustain

edit: just bc he’s more explosive than cade does not mean he’s more reliant, clearly becoming this level of 3p shooter is incredibly important for longevity n the days are coming when he’s not going to be attacking set halfcourt d’s anymore
