[Highlight] Victor Wembanyama puts up 41 Points and 24 Rebounds against the Thunder in Game 1 of the WCF
Dude that mid court shot was so badass
Thunder watching that after coasting through the hospital lakers: 🤯
Even the hospital Lakers kept it close for a good part of the series, the cracks in the Thunder were showing
Lakers fans have been hanging their hats on almost not sweeps for 3 years now lmao
They did the same with Denver after getting swept.
Like maybe the games were close but cmon, yall still got swept.
Game 1 May 5 Thunder 108–90 Lakers Game 2 May 7 Thunder 125–107 Lakers Game 3 May 9 Thunder 131–108 Lakers Game 4 May 11 Thunder 115–110 Lakers
An average of 16 point win per game is “keeping it close”
No no you don’t get it, they were close at halftime pretty much every time. If you ignore the second half it was a battle of a series
well, i mean, analytically…
Compared to the other blowouts in the regular season and the playoffs? Yeah the hospital Lakers kept it close. Also I said a good part of the series, of course the Thunder pulled ahead in the fourth. Fuck Raptors fans are morons.
Weird that you’re being mass down voted for this, that series was closer than the box scores indicate and was the first sign that OKC weren’t the unstoppable juggernaut of the previous season
Exactly, JJ’s plan for Shai was so effective the Spurs basically did the exact same thing
We did in fact sweep them tho. And the Lakers still were a decent team.
I was rooting for OKC but that shot when he took it made me angry, like a young guy choosing the wrong shot attempt (PG13 vibes). When he made it it made me go damnnnnnnn that was cold.
no comments about that commentary 🤣
OOOOOH HO HO!
santa claus aah reaction
The game tying shot towards the end of OT1 was one of the most clutch shots of all time. The audacity to launch it with the shot clock at 20 down 3 is crazy.
I genuinely think it’s one of the greatest shots in NBA history. Even though they didn’t win the championship. A young Spurs team led by a generational 22-year old, two 60-win teams battling it out, one of which is looking to repeat, back-to-back MVP versus the player who also contended for the award, and obviously the nature of the shot saving the game and stealing home court and momentum. The storyline and stakes are deep.
Game clock is at 26.If he misses and the thunder get another possession, if the spurs can defend that, they get one more shot. This is actually just a two for one. Still very cool, but the clock is why he launched it.
Ya but the balls to do it tho. Legacy type shot.
Technically yes, but it’s a pretty tight one. Thunder shoot at 1 second left on the shot clock, it comes off the rim weird and takes time for someone to fully gain possession.
I’m positive this was less wemby being strategic thinking two for one, and more him remembering how big his balls are.
I think this was the shot he wanted to take from game 2 of the finals towards the end when castle wasn’t looking and brunson intercepted.
Just your typical 7’6” center pulling up from 30 feet to tie the game late in Overtime….
In his 3rd season no less.
He was feeling it real hoopers know wen they in that mode you feel like you can’t miss no matter shot.
No matter how much hate Wemby gets from his finals performance, this was an all time great playoff game that should not be forgotten. One of the best games I have ever watched
Insane that a 3rd year player at 22 years old leading his team to a Finals run gets hate for only averaging 26-11-3 with almost 4 blocks on the same efficiency as the guy who gets glazed for winning FMVP
The unfortunate reality of having high expectations is that everyone will be waiting for you to fail. I’m hoping Wemby can string together an all time career and prove the haters wrong
NBA fandom makes it inevitable. Ring culture is a cancer.
Everyone is a fraud whether you win or lose
That’s just how sports talk works
It’s gonna be like this for his entire (hopefully long) career.
They got him as the next GOAT candidate so yknow the scrutiny gonna be turned up to 11 like with bron and MJ
Broke my heart when Wemby missed those FTs
The guy who won finals mvp showed up when it mattered and the guy who didn’t didnt
So Games 1-4 of the Finals didn’t matter? Because Brunson shot under 40% for the first 4 games but the Knicks were still up 3-1 thanks to OG and KAT.
Spurs fan here, I hate to say it but the Knicks fan is right. Brunson showed up and Wemby didn’t
It’s a team sport. They had Brunson when he was struggling and when the rest of the team was struggling in game 5 he put up 45 on 67%ts lol. Idk how u can shit on Brunson after that series.
If the rest of the team hadn’t mopped up the mess from Brunson shitting his pants all series, that 45 point game would be a footnote in an easy 6 game Finals for San Antonio.
And that’s fine, I love a good team-driven Finals run, but it doesn’t make Brunson some all-time player any more than Jaylen Brown.
I never said it did bucko. All time in the streets of ny is all that matters. The spurs could’ve won if they scored more points than us in 4 out of 7 games but they didnt. And that’s that
“All time in the streets of ny” man some of yall mfs corny as hell lol
It ain’t easy being cheesy. Take yourself less seriously dork
It’s a team sport.
yeah exactly, which is why we should judge players by how well they played and not by contextless win-loss
I’m judging them exactly by what happened. Wemby was good but had crucial mistakes when it mattered most. Brunson was good and hit big shots and dropped 45 when no one could buy a bucket.
Don’t be deceitful. Brunson averaged 34/5/6 on 46/50/84 shooting splits across games 3 and 4.
He also shot a hair under 50% the rest of the game after a slow first quarter in Game 1, when he took injuries to his knee and ankle.
I don’t recall you beating the defending champs in a very physical 7 games series, y’all got an extremely easy path with a lot of rest and it’s fine, every championship run has luck in it, it’s fair game
That’s just not a good excuse at all
it’s not an excuse it’s a fact, the only people who should care about excuses are players, they play the game not us
We couldn’t the defending champs were in the west. We beat the piss out of every team in front of us. Teams that many people said would beat us throughout the 82 game season. There’s no reason for me not to believe the Knicks couldn’t beat that hobbled thunder team as well.
I do think we actually matched up with yall a little better than SA did. We were hobbled as hell though
I certainly think so too given our regular season matchups the past 2 years but I guess we’ll never know. Well maybe next year
The Spurs had the better part of a week off before the Finals, then two games off between games for the actual Finals. They’re also in their early 20s. If they can’t handle fatigue in that kind of environment, purely because they played 7 games in one of their series, they need to get some medical testing done.
I think this is a fair analysis, as a Spurs fan.
I’m glad he was able to perform and that we got as far as we did. But I think the Knicks showed them what it looks like to bring the fire when it counts, and to keep playing till the end.
Listen if it’s any consolation you have fucking wemby who got some finals experience in his 3rd year. We saw with shaq and bron that it’s only a matter of time after that first L. And yall have much better talent surrounding him than they ever had in their early seasons.
Yeah absolutely. Once the initial sting and everything died down, I’m still happy for Knicks fans that they got their chip, and I’m optimistic for the future. This would all be no fun if the wins were super predictable and guaranteed.
Ngl if we didn’t win I couldn’t feel the same about yall but that’s only because you guys have a much more certain future. This core only has so many shots. A majority of my life I imagined I might not see a Knicks chip until my 60s if ever. Yall will have a lot more opportunities and now I can root for wemby for the rest of his career without being salty
I’m honestly fine with people shortchanging and underestimating him. It’s harder to beat an opponent that respects you
the glaze on twitter after this game could feed families, it was so fun to read
Top 3 playoff series I have ever watched
I mean it was very high level but what year did you start? Like it’s up there for the 2020s but with the injuries I still feel kinda robbed ngl.
Yeah, this series was a very hyped series but the injuries and the reffing being so inconsistent depending on who was leading the series just robbed from being able to enjoy it as much imo. There are some awesome series with iconic moments that are much higher that this series that happened within the last decade alone.
Started watching in 2012
There have been some bangers since 2012. OKC vs Golden State in 2016. Warriors vs Cavs in 2016. Pacers vs Thunder in 2025 Finals. Rockets vs Warriors in 2018. But yeah thisnis up there I guess.
warriors cavs in 2016 was objectively not really a good series until the last few minutes of game 7
You know what that’s a fair point. I do think it presented some of the highest quality basketball though.
It was an incredible series as someone who’s been watching since the 90s. Some of the highest level team basketball ever played
Not sure where I’d rank it all time as I try to avoid recency bias, but I have a feeling I’ll still rank it very highly in ten years
I’d feel better ranking it higher if both squads were fully healthy. I thought Game 1 and 7 were awesome. The other games were good. Like if we are talking about amazing series with close games Thunder vs Grizzlies in 2014 was awesome. But hard to put a 1st round series above a conference finals series. I mean the whole first round in 2014 in the West was amazing.
Where art thou, Chet holmgren.
I only see Holmgren Sr. out there
I really thought spurs was winning the championship bruh
if games ended in 12 minutes they’d have their 6th Larry
Actually, by the 46 minute mark of 4 of the five games the Spurs were winning, so if it was a 46 game…
knicks led the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters of all the games combined
You can’t skip steps
Everyone did. And everyone doesn’t know ball. A young team like that winning would’ve been completely unprecedented. But betting odds had them favored for whatever reason. Real ones knew the Knicks were better.
Bro don’t act like the Knicks didn’t win on razor thin margins. The Spurs choked three games, they easily could have won. “But they didn’t” I know.
I never said it wasn’t competitive. But games are played in 4 quarters not 3.
SYBAU lol
Lmao yall have 99 atleast hope u were alive for it.
Yeah every young core needs losses to gain clutch time exp
And the Knicks had a really good matchup vs SA specifically. They had size advantage due to their wing trio, OG/KAT/Mitch was really good core to try to deal with Wemby, better 3 point shooting to punish Wemby roaming
We had the matchup advantage on paper and just infinite more experience. We’ve been to 3 straight playoffs with this general core, two of which where we lost to the nba finals teams. The closest comparisons to this spurs team were the 95 magic to me or the 07 Cavs and we all saw how those young teams did. The spurs overachieved massively and cudos to them but I could not understand how they were favored like 65⁄35 never made sense to me.
but I could not understand how they were favored like 65⁄35 never made sense to me.
simple, stop being gambling degenerates and listen to those who get the advantage of baiting people to spend money on it, knicks got the matchup advantage the whole year + huge rest in the playoffs
Only sports bet I ever made in my life was for the Knicks to win the finals because of how stupid those odds were. Ez money
Yep, the Knicks took their bearings in past seasons that made them learn, especially losing to the pacers. This was that for the Spurs.
I hated this game plan. Caruso or whoever on him could work for a few plays in the game with the elements of surprise. Showing no side and no strength for a long period of time and he will abused it. He’s way less effective when we play a big on him in the next games.
Dagnault doesn’t get nearly enough shit for that. Going small almost exclusively was a terrible idea. Felt like textbook getting high on your own supply from the Denver series the prior year.
Also, going small on Wemby with Jalen Williams, who was then too hurt to play for the rest of the series…yeah not a great idea
Hartenstein ended up being the primary defender too throughout the series, and Jdub hardly ever guarded Vic, only on switches
this was the real finals. The 2025-26 NBA season ended on May 30th.
Aww :(
East can’t compete with the west until it’s time for the east to compete with the west
Wemby was just a monster this gameÂ
Thunder had no answer for him
I just wish they brought this energy to the finals.
Maybe it was too much to wish for, and the Knicks were on an otherworldly run so I can’t be too upset. But nonetheless, what a legendary game.
They did bring this energy to the finals tbf, it just only lasted about one quarter each game lol
An absolute pleasure to watch
Idk what a foul is anymore, I feel like most plays, he is fouled
my life as a steph curry fan
mfs were putting him on the mount rushmore after this game
Not having Mike Breen on this game is a travesty
This was such an amazing performance the biggest statement game in years
Thanks for the reminder
I still maintain that this game going to OT did wonders for Wemby’s young legacy.
Genuinely wild that people don’t think this kid is clutch. We would’ve been a first-round exit without his late-game heroics, on both ends
We deadass didnt talk about that performance enough, doing this against the defending champs in your first playoffs appearance at 22 is insane
WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A FAST TALKING ARABIC DUDE?
Spurs didn’t win the chip, but at least they defeated evil
Honestly, I’ll take it.
hilariously ironic with your flair
Wwmby is like the anti-SGA in how he makes the game fun to watch. Minimal flopping, amazing skillset for a 7-footer, and a true competitor on both ends of the court.
It was hard to see him lose in the Finals this year, but health willing, he will certainly be back and ready to put numbers like this up regularly.
“minimal flopping” he flopped on defense on a jared mccain drive to the basket man. he also played dirty as shit
One play apparently equals his entire career. Typical Reddit copium
Brings a tear to my eye
I hope they quit doing the crane shot at the beginning of the quarters, it seemed like did had it until a point was scored but one quarter it took almost 3 minutes for it to go away
Took all the slurs had to beat a hospital thunder squad, I want to see these teams play healthy … doubt it even goes to 6
This was one of the worst days of my life, still can’t believe the series went 7 I thought shit was done
Those no call hand screens are the best no call cheese dick ass bs I’ve ever seen.
Then a few days later a big headed midget sonned his ass
Thanks vic! Did us a huge favor taking them out
Na we would have ethered them too
No argument from me but it would’ve been an extra game of wear and tear on the guys winning in 6 instead of 5. Gotta think about next year
That was the spurs finals! Literally. Crybaby victor proved it.
History remembers the champions!
KG laughed his azz off said Wemby did a whole lot of crying when the series was over before moving on to face the Knicks 🤣 That was his CHIP
