Luka and the Lakers motorcade pulling up to Cemopova down what is normally a pedestrian-only street
Luka definitely got very special status in Slovenia. Bit of a dick move to drive dozens of SUVs down one of the highest foot traffic raids in the city.
Yeah I mean they really only need a car for Luka. Ain’t no one in Slovenia bothering Jake Laravia or Quinten Grimes
A collection of 2 meter tall mostly Black Americans will draw attention anywhere except NBA and Euroleague events.
Mostly black? They turned into the snowtime Lakers lol
Damn, so are Lakers out of the question for you now?
Right ✅️ It’s obvious the poster doesn’t know the latest lineup.
with a username like this, how come you don’t know they’re still mostly black 😭 snow time applies to the starters
This is not rural China. People aren’t going to just swarm a bunch of tall black guys that they don’t recognize.
The new Lakers team is 50% white. The starting 5 only has one Black guy.
Nobody seemed to care in Paris when the Spurs were walking around there according to their insta posts
Same with the Wolves in Paris
The whatnow in Paris?
Awoooooooo
Timberwolves of Paris
Ugh is that the sequel? I’ll stick with London thank you
I guess they will glance at them at the most but no one cares about nba players like that, much less the no name lakers players sans luka
Yeah it’s weird cause we even see it with this short video. No one really cares about Reaves and then Luka walking out isn’t that big of a deal. They don’t even stand out that much here to be honest
I’ve seen the other clips posted from this trip and these guys are being swarmed. and there’s a news site uploading pics from every single outing like a live feed. apart from luka it’s reaves, bronny and jake that are garnering reactions too, but they still ask for photos and signatures from the other guys
btw not justifying the car use here. just pointing out they have been a big deal over these last few days. it made me wonder how much it disrupted other people - and based on this video I now have my answer lol. the general public might not care about these guys and that makes total sense to me. they look like they’re just trying to go about their day lol
Yes, in many european capitals with pedestrian city centers its not uncommon to see popular faces walking around - like the guy who does the news, some football player or politician etc. People dont really bat an eye.
Maybe its differnent in America where many are in far away suburbs and behind car windshields.
Im not sure about mostly black 🤭
They draw attention in the NBA too
And what would happen? Wow, a tall black man!! And? Do you think Europeans are some backwards people that would not leave them alone? Lmao.
WHO IS NUMBER 12?
crazy thing is, some of the kids were screaming for jake in a video I saw lol
Add number 4 guy to that list.
I’m a native, and I’m fine with it. Luka has done more to promote Slovenia across the world than anybody else.
Those kids are going to be telling their grandchildren they witnessed Luka’s motorcade.
Do people do this often in Slovenia? Been to Italy and it’s an absolute clusterfuck of people driving all over the god damned place.
I definitely had a few “this guy shouldn’t be driving his Fiat down this road” moments in Rome but it seemed normal to the locals so he probably was allowed.
Seemed pretty unsafe tho.
Yep, Rome has plenty of that.
Naples is absolute bedlam. I have no idea what rules, if any, are enforced down there.
In a Roman taxi was definitely the most unsafe I’ve ever felt in my life lol.
I used to think Rome was crazy then I spent the weekend in Naples. My god lol.
It is much better than Italy. Also much less narrow streets and if there are, there is a 30 kmph speed limit unlike in Italy where they are often allowed to drive 50 in the narrowest roads. This street is closed for traffic except for morning deliveries and I believe you need a permit.
No love for Tadej? Primoz?
Basketball is bigger than cycling but my god, Tadej is looking like a GOAT right now.
Incomparable. How many people watch cycling compared to basketball?
In Europe at least, Pogacar is absolutely the bigger name I would say. It helps that he’s a Jordan/LeBron level talent in cycling too.
We are in different circles. I’m Slovenian, and he’s definitely not the bigger name than Luka.
not smaller either, they are both famous, only one is really goat at his sport tho
It’s like saying the GOAT at ice skating vs NFL
by your logic then even Oblak is bigger than Dončič
The opposite. Look at the money and the viewership
Yea I’m not disputing that
lol
Tadej in shambles.
Thank god someone from the actual city responds. The Reddit finger wagging defending other cultures they have nothing to do with is so exhausting
This whole trip is an ad by the Slovenian turist agency that Luka is sponsored by. nothing you see isn’t in line with Slovenia or should give off the idea that he is given undue special treatment
He’s like also a tourist ambassador or something so their tourist department probably organized all this for him.
Definetely a power move. The Ljubljana cemter is open for delivery between 6am and 10 am after that there hasnt been a car there other than ambulance for 20 years.
All blacked cars running through čopova street is definetely some balkan power move as in ja sam jak.
They could have easily went the other way
I could not agree more. There is literally 60m walk from the main street (Slovenska) to the restaurant they were going to. But no, they had to show off like this.
Isn’t Slovenska closed off though? Bus/cycling/walking only ? Have to go left at the parliament, no? Haven’t been there in a while though.
You are right! Bus and taxi only. But you can drive with a car to Hotel Slon for example, if you are staying there. In this case it would still be better for them to stop there and not enter pedestrian zone.
They got to save their legs for the upcoming NBA season.
Redefining load management
We got some sensitive redditors in this chat. Pansies.
Even Bill Clinton went on foot on this very street when visiting. See for yourself: https://www.mediaspeed.net/fotografije/prikazi/153348-bill-clinton-42-predsednik-zdruzenih-drzav-amerike-v-ljubljani
This is how you show respect to a city you are visiting.
Yeah the security reasons are understandable but they couldn’t pack the team and guards into like 2 vans?
These guys are huge, no way they could
Said the person who has one of the tallest people on his team.
Strap Wemby down up top like a buck and you’re good
How small do you think nba players are?
1 bus
Aren’t taxis generally allowed down pedestrian streets? Like they have access to lift bollards? Been to a lot of places that taxis could go into restricted areas
This is Čopova, no taxis allowed there, there are no combustion cars allowed in parts of the inner city.
That is super dependent on where a car free zone is. In Australia, most car free zones are emergency or delivery trucks only.
But is it true for this street? Does this only allow emergency and delivery. Or does it also allow taxis?
Researched a bit and it seems like taxis can’t drive on the street. Emergency vehicles and early morning delivery trucks only. Could be wrong on that but that’s what a bit of googling showed up.
You are correct
No taxis allowed here.
Why so much cars ? That’s not a football team bro.
Not condoning the behavior of course, but usually an excess of cars is a security measure.
That and you can’t pack a bunch of dudes who are 6’8 in one car + coaches/assistants/security are involved. Billion dollar business baby!
For political figures, sure. Seems excessive for some basketball players to all seemingly have their own car
I think you underestimate the size of the average nba player
I think they could fit 2-3 guys in those big ass vans no problem.
That’s still 5 -7 vans then add coaches, trainers, GFs
Also the size of their wallets in comparison to Slovenian ones. To be in the top 1% over there you’d need $40k annual income.
Your math is ever so slightly off. The average personal income of a regularly employed person in Slovenia (37.5 hours per week, 4-6 weeks PTO per year, unlimited sick days), pre-tax, is about 36k€ which makes it about $42k per year.
So you want all of them to drive their own car, surely that would be better right?
also sign of a great dealership fleet manager
Which seems counterproductive because coming with a whole ass motorcade draws all the attention on you
Every car that unloads in the clip has at least two people plus a security guy exiting, and the driver is still inside. 4 people a car is perfectly normal, considering the size of these guys makes the furthest back seats unusable. It’s not that many people either. About 10 cars in the clip, and the Lakers have 19 people rostered at this moment including the 2 way guys.
Pretty sure he went with the whole lakers team, It looks like 2 players per car, for leg room of NBA sized people
Could also just…walk
To fit all their entitled egos.
*btw this is Čopova street, not Cemopova
Upvote this, get it right op …
Is that by the copova Cabana
We’re gonna need more context than that
Matija Čop was a linguist, poliglot, friend of France Prešeren (dude who wrote the Slovenian hymn) and some other stuff that i forgot. The street is named after him.
I think it’s important to keep in mind the possibility that this was not Luka’s idea or decision
And even if it isn’t who gives a shit lol, its not that deep. Reddit is such an interesting place.
Actual Slovenians: woah cool those are the lakers exploring our city
Redditors: this is the worst thing ever
Probably already posted in fuckcars
Yeah, it’s weird. They took the street for a whole 10 minutes
Reddit in a nutshell.
I’m just saying, I saw a lot of comments coming for Luka, and I’m just like well how do we even know if this was Luka’s call
I see more people complaining about Reddit complaining than I see people actually complaining
Nah it’s kinda deep. Not because of this one occasion, but because it happens at all. There are people in this world that have everything given to them. They get their red carpet, wear their diamonds, free seats to events or dinners, and the people on the street crawl over each other to be the first to get a blurry picture of the back of that persons head because it will somehow elevate their status. Meanwhile I’m drowning in work to pay my bills and not living at all. And there are government elites making sure that that all keeps happening.
Could be a security thing with so many rich people in one spot.
Nobody there gave a fuck like the Reddit keyboard warriors in the comments
[deleted]
You ok? He’s saying the people walking by didn’t mind, unlike Redditors
Good job they’re in Central Europe then. You do know Slovenia is attached to Italy right? It literally has similar crime statistics to Denmark.
exactly.
And was that Austin reeves walking up?
Kevon Looney too.
And Matisse
Yes
Money can buy everything but manners.
Redditors are the most dramatic people of all time lmfao
Reddit whenever someone shows a slightest ounce of privilege: this is the worst evil in history
National hero receives relatively minor temporary accommodation is such a weird thing to be upset about and yet some people in this thread are trying really hard
looks like Reeves and Kevon Looney didn’t mind walking
Some of y’all get offended at the weirdest, unimportant shit lol. I guarantee that street has seen plenty of cars at different times that you never cared about until now. Also, good luck having Luka walk that entire thing without security becoming a major problem as crowds horde around him.
In fact, that street didn’t see plenty of cars.
That street doesn’t have cars at all. The annoyance is minor, but it’s definitely bullshit that they drove there, just out of principle. If they don’t want to see the pedestrian part of the city on foot, they don’t have to go there.
There’s vans and other vehicles there all the time around the square. Can even go see them on Google Maps. Stop acting like this micro side street is some delicate artifact of walking, it’s a fucking stone slab street
It’s not a micro side street, it’s literally the most downtown street in Ljubljana, the very center of the center. There are delivery vans for shops during delivery hours (early mornings), and there’s vehicle access for emergency vehicles and for production vehicles for public events in the square. This motorcade didn’t fit any of those. And it was completely overblown, they could’ve just walked down the street if they wanted to go there, just like the queen of England did when she visited.
You are incorrect. Way to explain the city to people who live there.
i was thinking how come that guy walked like looney… then i found out he joined the lakers😂
id spot that old man shuffle anywhere
Not sure what almost the fuss is about
People really getting upset about this. Like they drove for a few mins, wow what a big deal. Man go outside and get some fresh air.
They had 60 meters (=200 feet) to walk from the main street to the restaurant but they decided to drive in pedestrian zone to only have to walk 20 meters. Come on.
Oh no you had to wait 2 mins for some cars to pass, what will you do.
They tried to go outside and get some fresh air but a convoy of cars ruined their walk (and fresh air)
The cars drove by, didn’t take that long.
RUINED their walk?
My goodness yall are so fucking dramatic 😂
We have the right to be. If as a pedestrian I need to be wary of cars in a pedestrian only area I have the right to be dramatic.
0:18 Is that Holger Geschwindner (Mentor and private Coach of Dirk Nowitzki) ?
I think you and I are the only two to notice that. That’s interesting. Holger seems like a great person.
Move over European walkable cities, America is coming to town
Who gives a shit
NBA redditors automatically morphing into city planners.
They getting dropped off behind the McDonald’s. I know they stoked to see the golden archs
Looks like they went to a bookstore 📕 (Felix).
For fuck’s sake, they’re in Slovenia not Hong Kong. They coulda just walked down the street with some extra muscle.
Total Trump move.
I guess they think they’d be mobbed by fans? Kinda weird.
Even Bill Clinton (visiting Ljubljana in 2009) walked on this pedestrian street without any cars accompanying him.
Image: https://www.mediaspeed.net/fotografije/prikazi/153348-bill-clinton-42-predsednik-zdruzenih-drzav-amerike-v-ljubljani
I’m so proud that I wouldn’t be one of those people that immediately pulls their phone out to get a blurry picture of the back of Luka’s head.
I hate everything about this. That there’s a private motorcade where a person/people need a red carpet to their destination. And the people that prove why it happens. Because seeing this human being and having a picture of him somehow elevates my status.
that’s a terrible look. he ain’t no dictator. pathetic
He brought the whole team to visitation?
god forbid a white boy get a little motion
I doubt most people there really care. If anything the publicity boost this is giving them is well worth it.
Regular people do not give a shit about publicity lmao
Peasants walk.
First dude with the glasses has a gigantic head lol
Why does he walk like he’s already injured. Season hasn’t started yet
Noticed the same thing. He has the early stages of Dirk’s walk.
If you ever ask yourself why European dislike westerners, specifically americans. This a perfect example of an american organization thinking they can do whatever they want. Its not that they had permission. Which they might have had. Its the fact they think they’re time/experience needs to be prioritized over everyone else’s.
Another great example, is the losers that go to Tokyo and drive around in go carts dressed up as Mario characters. I hope Nintendo is able to shut them down.
I swear they do this sh*t just to be seen.
Key the vehicles
This is stupid
They drive Mercedes and have hazadrs on, so it’s fine, they have the right of way … That’s the eastern European way of life
Dick
Ugh hate seeing privilege like this handed out for no real reason. Just walk you clowns.
Man they love their Mercedes in those parts. Although a bit confused on why so many cars.
“in those parts” while having Serbia flair is wild
It’s a European car in Europe doesn’t seem that odd.
They show 2 players exiting each car, plus a security guy, and a driver is still inside. Just with the 19 Lakers players, that would take 10 cars. More if the coaching staff/trainers/physio are there.
At least 4 people per vehicle too, it’s literally how every normal person travels.
Why comment multiple times on your own post? Weirdo
Commented twice btw. The fact that you felt compelled to “call me out”.
Corny as hell, pro athletes love the attention.
This seems like the opposite of loving attention. They just want to get in without being hounded on the streets.
This was definetly attention move..there is other street that can get younot of the square.
what a cunt
Capitalism and wealth inequality will destroy human society
Will? It is 😭
Dang. Luka spent at least a million on this trip.
Bunch of people saying it wasn’t his idea when the #2 star on the team is walking and beyond one other Laker everyone of lower notoriety are in those cars too.
Also all you pulling the “yall will bitch about anything” card are the ones most doing so, FYI.
This makes it sound like you’re the one bitching lol
Lame
Flexing
Typical eastern european thing. Law doesn’t apply to rich and famous.
Slovenia has two famous people and they both live in the us. Luka is king there, he’ll do whatever he wants
I’m not Slovenian, but worth noting they do have a lot of international sports stars for their size. I’m sure he’s beloved there, but the last time Luka won the Slovenian Sportsman of the Year award was in 2018.
Everything but not have to pay his ex alimony
Keep in mind this was almost certainly not Luka’s decision
Its a big club and we aint in it
Anything but walking I guess
Boooo
Moooove 1⁄8 of your country’s GDP coming through!
My love for basketball wanes with every reminder that NBA players are millionaires
Corn ball lol
Umm ok?
So why don’t you try out for the Celtics and become a millionaire yourself?
Tough look
What a douche
Asshole move for no reason
Not cool i gotta say. If its for pedestrians only then you gotta respect that code.
Rules for thee but not for me
