Kings firing Mike Malone was also bad, they were .500 and exceeding expectations and if I remember correctly he was fired because the owner didn’t like him in the locker room or something, their season went in the tank after that.

Brown was actually holding players accountable and trying to implement a new offense to work around Howard and Nash’s skill sets; but Kobe being a prima-donna bitch complained he wasn’t getting enough touches; and when Brown told him to stop whining the FO fired him immediately. Then that team crashed and burned in spectacular fashion

Kings was just a systematic brick by brick self demolition job.

Teams sometimes implode, but ownership were really like, lets do everything wrong and be thorough about it.

I don’t necessarily think a guy going from a bad team to a good team and having a good result is bad for the Kings lol.

Mike Brown wasn’t the driving force that won them a title, he was just a guy who wasn’t actively impeding them from it like Thibs was.

Brown would never win a title with the Kings. It wouldve held their franchise back to keep him because Brown isn’t a floor raiser. He’s a guy who we know exactly who he is and have known exactly who he is for well over a decade at this point. Winning will help his “legacy” (whatever that word means to anyone at this point) but he isn’t a wildly better coach than he was at any other point in time.

Kyrie ruined that team

I think Nets fans were generally ready for him to go at the time though. Steve Nash obviously didn’t work out, but Atkinson at the time was seen as a developmental specialist that can raise the teams floor but doesn’t raise the ceiling to championship level. Even prior to signing the stars a lot of the Nets sub wanted Kenny gone

This is revisionist history. Nets fans who watched him at the time knew he had to go. Dude made mind boggling rotation moves late in games and often let teams go on extended runs before calling a timeout. He may be better now, but as the coach of the Nets his best talent was getting the most out of young and overlooked players. He didn’t have the ability to lead a team of stars with egos.

Nah Kenny is a super mid coach. He hasn’t done anything with that Cavs roster that JB Bickerstaff hasn’t done as well.

Granted the reason he got fired was just cause KD and Kyrie are diva bitches who wanted to coach the team themselves (hence Steve Nash being hired as their friend) but I promise Kenny would not have done any better coaching all those egos and the collapse still would have happened

Bud was living on borrowed time IMO. He was 100% going to be fired after the 2020-2021 season, but Milwaukee winning the Finals forced them to delay it and give him another chance.

He wasn’t fired the next season, he was fired the season after next. They made the play-in his second season and lost to the Pelicans.

Has Walton really been that bad as a head coach? I thought he was pretty solid as a Warriors assistant. Surprised it didn’t translate to some level of success. Though given what we’ve seen from Mike Brown as well, it seems like the Kings have a major org issue underlying everything.

I think that comes down to a lot of these. There are results…. Yeah. But if you don’t have all the other off the court shit buttoned up and are a general asshole and can’t manage players, well management isn’t gonna give you the rope unless you are REALLY winning games.

People don’t like to hear it but vibes matter. Management matters. How you interact and run you team matters. If a team is winning at a mid level but the whole org is miserable then that isn’t working.

The players talked about needing to make their own defensive scheme mid fucking game while he was still technically the head coach. He never should have made it past preseason. Probably shouldn’t have made it past the interview stage. His record was a sign of how much talent that team had, nothing more.

If Malone lost the locker room, where is Adelman at with the locker room now? Nuggs looked very disconnected and disinterested in that Playoff loss to the beat up TWolves. (serious question)

The change should’ve been to the roster, that’s pretty clear at this point

I don’t disagree with the decision to get rid of Malone, but I disagree with the piss-poor timing decision of getting rid of him just two weeks or so before the playoffs began; they should have given him the rest of the season and the playoffs to let him and the team cook before making a decision

We weren’t winning games because of Griffin, we were winning games despite him. We had an easy first half schedule, and we were struggling to beat bad teams. Firing Bud might have been a mistake, hiring Griffin was definitely a mistake, and hiring Glenn just compounded the mistake. 

Bud was good. He had his flaws but the two coaches that followed him were much worse.

Firing a coach means nothing when the replacement is worse

The death of Mike Brown was when the Kings decided to bring in Derozan. The kings needed a true 3 and D player and they decided it wasn’t necessary.

Chauncey was a bad coach on top of being an accused felon.

But Terry was s good coach. Everyone knew something needed to change. It was the GM (Olshey) who needed to get the boot, but they got rid of Terry instead and the wheels just started falling off.

It’s weird seeing how these things age, because everyone at the time new Griffins record was incredibly misleading based on how they were losing and how easy their schedule was.

I thought it was fine to fire Bud. It was absolutely insane to fire him without a clear #1. They did it again firing AG for doc Fing Rivers.

The stories about the GM and the coach makes sense to get rid of them both. If it’s so bad that your star player doesn’t protect you, you deserve to go.

He was the right coach for the team at that point in time.

He just has tendencies he couldn’t overcome to push the Knicks over the finish line.

It’s okay. Thibs is the answer for us. Shouldn’t have hired Fred can’t yell because of my heart Hoiberg and not given him the right kind of players for his system.

Thibs is a great coach for rebuilding a terrible culture or toxic organization like the three teams he coached. However, he has a hard ceiling of the conference finals and the game has passed him by in many respects. So long as you go in with the expectation he’s not the coach who will take you to a championship, he’s great.

Firing Vogel was a mistake, and then replacing him with the always mediocre Nate McMillan was worse. Likewise, firing Carlisle in 07 looks pretty terrible, especially replacing him with Jim O’Brien.

Bird is weird about head coaches, he’s on record saying they don’t really matter and that they should only coach for a few years. To be fair he believed in that strongly enough that he stepped down himself after three years despite a successful run so I guess you can’t say he’s not consistent.

A fair number of people wanted him gone, especially after losing to the number 8 seed Miami in the first round due to questionable play-calling and decisions. However, after seeing what happened after with Griffin and Doc Rivers, more a case of “you don’t know what you had until it’s gone” with coach Bud.

People were calling for his head when we went down 0-2 in The Finals.

I think firing Monty wasn’t a bad idea looking back on it. Chris Paul wasn’t getting any younger and Ayton wasn’t what they thought he was. It was need for a reset

Things had gotten stagnant and there was some rumored behind the scenes issues. It just doesn’t look great in retrospect because Iisalo hasn’t done a damn thing yet.
