Steve Nash was training his former teammate’s son, Tai Bell in a private workout!
Nash is so smooth man.
You can see the subtle inefficiencies of the kid’s movements after watching how smooth nash was.
And how much sexier Nash’s shot is
and how much tighter and shorter Nash’s shorts are…..stupid sexy Nash

Roberrrrtoooo
Enjoy that sausage
Is Nash the inventor of 5G?
Real talk, the standardization for cellular data speeds/strengths were planned out decades before the technology could achieve them. AT&T got a lot of flack for calling one of their data speed “5GE” 5G because it technically did not meet the specs for 5G. It was just a 4G plan.
I have never seen this before lmao
Even still, every time that perfect stroke leaves his hand, it’s a miss for him if it touches any rim, dropping through.
I think one shot touched the rim.
Might just have something to do with the edit.
A high-arcing shot is one of the most defense-neutralizing shots in the game and Nash is a master of it near the paint.
Looks like the kid is caught up in the concept of speed/twitchiness to beat a defender when Nash is trying to teach him that being smooth is how you juke a defender
Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast
Speed is the efficiency of motion
Moisture is the essence of wetness.
And wetness is the essence of beauty
Tried to get my nephew to understand this, he’d do his moves but half the time the defender wouldnt beat his guy. I’m like you’re moving too fast to recognize when you have an opening. I had a coach once say somethings that landed for me: know your objectives/possibilities, the move doesn’t beat the defender the defender beats the defender
Nash is undoubtedly one of the smoothest players of all time. His ability to micro adjust his leg positioning and the ball is probably the best of all time.
If you go back and look at his games, he was regularly blowing by top level defensive players while having average speed and explosiveness.
Nash’s ability keep his dribble and maneuver under the hoop until he could he find the tiniest bit of space was legendary. You’d see him surrounded by bigs and somehow he’d find an opening and score with a beautiful little finger roll. And if he didn’t score himself, he was also a world class passer.
Got that backwards. He was a world class passer who also could score himself. He was dribbling down there looking for his guy.
In todays era it’d probably be flipped, but he was pass first.
All about reps. Nash probably has tens of thousands of reps doing that. Be good at something and repeat it enough times and it will end up feeling as natural as walking or breathing. (Also helps being one of the most fluid player to ever step on the court, but the 2 things go hand in hand)
No “probably” about it, we’ve seen how prime Nash works out on Youtube. Issue is the game has more of an emphasis on athleticism, and players play so much more that they develop bad habits a lot easier instead of addressing them.
Nashs movements and dribbles are so much tighter. The kid is a baller but the little things most of these pros do just sets them apart
The main thing I noticed is how tight Nash keeps his elbows to his body. A lot of players flair the elbows a bit because it allows them to move side to side in a faster/twitchier fashion and lets the crossovers travel longer distances, but it makes it more obvious when the elbows come in that they’re about to go vertical for a shot
Nash on the other hand is so tight that his shooting motion is harder to see coming
His shot is just so damn smooth and pure. Rarely hits rim.
The younger guy cocks his head back a bit on his shot, whereas Nash doesn’t. Nash’s touch is perfect, even at the slower pace he was demonstrating.
That crossover into full spin made me cry
crystal clean
I’d say not as buttery as SVG though. Now that’s a guy who put together whatever he can put together.
Stan Van Gundy?
https://youtu.be/21cE2aUbWB0?si=wspbUnz4jdfmZ730
He can put it together!
Do you know any other SVG’s?
After seeing those buttery smooth handles I’m not sure I even know the one.
No wasted movement.
Every single shot was the same exact platform, leg angle, arm angle
In the playoffs in 2005, Amare fouled out of a game in Dallas with like 2 minutes left and the Suns down.
Nash hit a three to tie with like 5 seconds left and then just completely took over the game. Dirk was screaming at the entire Mavs team and Bill Walton kept INSISTING that Nash was a bad athlete lmao I understand his point, but damn Bill.
At one point in OT he gets to the middle of the paint and has to shoot over like Dampier maybe? He pulls back so his body is at like a 45 degree angle to the ground and drains it. But from the waist up his mechanics were exactly the same lol
Yeah Steve hit a lot of fadeaway shots where his back was close to parallel with the ground. Mainly near the rim. It’s a thing of beauty.
I highly recommend watching him break down his shot
I was a lil white kid that loved AI so much that I underrated Nash hard in elementary school and thought Shaq should’ve had those MVP’s lol. Hating the suns might’ve helped that opinion
I’ve gone back and done the math/watched the film. Nash was the truth
Not saying he would have kept up the efficiency with higher volume but it’s crazy that you had one of the most creative playmakers of all time and an all time elite shooter in the same body. Most people know he was a great shooter but I still feel like it gets lost at times how insane it is he was 50/40/90 over like a 5 year span. And some years, he was clearing those benchmarks with ease. In his 006-07 year (when he finished MVP2), he shot .532/.455/.899. That technically doesn’t count to meet the 50/40/90 mark but what an insane shooting year. Arguably the most impressive out of any of them. I really feel like he could have been a 22-23 point scorer if he was just a touch more greedy.
I totally agree. He was insane. I just didn’t see it as a 9 year old lol. My friends and I liked the more flashy shit while dunking on the lowered rims during recess
I get what you mean, but Nash was also the definition of a flashy passer. But I get that passing isn’t as sexy as crossovers, dunks, and acrobatic layups.
He was almost 50/40/90 for his career (49/42/90). If he had missed 125 fewer shots over his career, he would’ve qualified. Over an 18 year career, if he had missed about 7 fewer shots each year, he would’ve qualified lol. The man was an efficiency god.
No that’s Paul Pierce
As a lil white 30 year old, I call any guy that’s good at sports “the truth” to sound cool
He still got it. Looks great for his age, he’s really stayed in shape
He does, but I’m pretty sure he deals with chronic back and nerve damage. I remember he was on Bill Simmons’ pod in like 2019⁄2020, and he was talking about how he’s still not injured from the leg break he suffered in 2012 because it exacerbated his chronic back issues.
He was always laying down on the court on the sidelines during his playing days due to back pain
Nash looks like he always had good posture, his back is always arched and never slouched.
Pretty sure back pain led him to retire
It was ultimately the knee injury he suffered when colliding with Dame back in 2012. He broke his tibiofibular joint, and it caused all sorts of nerve damage that fucked with his existing back issues.
Heard him say when he retired that he could still show up and play a great game in the NBA at that point but he would need two weeks to recover and they would have 5-6 games in that time frame.
He really is….
The summer after his rookie year he came to Edmonton Hoop it Up and did a little shooting clinic. He was mic’d up and was talking about shooting mechanics. He started right in front of the hoop and drained shots as he took one step back. He was about 10 feet out from the three point line at the end. Never missed one. Never hit rim. This was outdoors too.
Those first like 5 shots he takes all sound the exact same going through the net, like you could convince me they were a sound effect being played.
Insanely precise form.
That early football (soccer) work he put in when he was a kid.
The most complex footwork of any sport, it translates so extremely well to any other sport.
In all of those shots, Nash touched the rim on one of those shots, the rest weee clean net
Nash jumper as beautiful as I remembered…
Injuries really robbed us of a veteran Steve Nash coming off the bench hitting threes in the corner
I would kill to watch Nash in a modern offense. He’s the one guy I think could go shot for shot with Steph and beat him. Kids these days don’t understand how pure of a shooter he was.
Then you consider he’s the best playmaking point guard since Magic? In the 2020s high offense era, he woulda average like 15 assists easy.
I get it was a different time, but the idea of a coach seeing him shoot the ball that well and not getting on him to shoot it every time he’s open is crazy to me. Like its so obvious that I don’t think hindsight is a good enough defense
Nash was not open that much, he was offensive orchestrator who was naturally a pass first player, even in this era he would not shoot that much more, Suns played fast and played like a team of this era and Nash was unselfish and his passing was amazing anyway
You can say he should have shot more but his passing was so elite that it’s an argument he shouldn’t shoot more because he led elite elite offenses some of the best ever, there’s no reason for him to shoot more
The reason he was that efficient he picked his spots and did not force things, he’d probably average 16-17 shots now instead of 13
because he led elite elite offenses
ok but if he shot more he could have lead elite elite elite offenses ..
naw jk, couldn’t agree with ya more
The entire Warriors offense was designed as an offshoot to 7 seconds or less wasn’t it? Nash has been open that he should’ve doubled down on it like Steph did.
Maybe, but he was also one of the best passers in the history of the league so doubling him regularly would be a grave mistake.
Nash would wait until the 4th to look for his shot, and he regularly lead the league in 4th quarter average and shooting percentage.
Obviously his teams were already elite offensively, he could have just had some more monster scoring games if he pushed the envelope
Well, he himself said that after watching Steph Curry, he realized that he should’ve shot way more. He absolutely had the ability to shoot the ball anywhere on the court
You can’t just ‘get on him’ to shoot. That wasn’t who he was.
both his Dallas and Phoenix teams were offensive juggernauts. Phoenix in particular, was built on his ability to move the ball and find the cracks in the defense. I am not sure he shooting more would have given much better results, they were extremely optimized.
He can do any type of shot, and often unbalanced too. If he was a bit taller, he would have been so deadly. His finishing at the rim, as well as his pull up shots are underrated
Nash would not go shot for shot with Steph, he will tell you himself he’s not as good of a jumpshooter off the dribble
He’d average around 22⁄12 on elite efficiency
15 assists is impossible in this era, the ball moves too much, in the 80s/90s with no zone and iso heavy the best era to do it was not even done, Stockton came close who was 24⁄7 ball handling
He’s equally accurate, but he didn’t have as fast of a release. He was using the threat of his pull up if the defender cheated even one bit on him, but his main goal was find a layup of the a teammate or for himself.
nash is one of my favorite players. he really changed the game.
Definitely agree. Not a hot take at all. I still think Steph would eek it out, but Nash could absolutely go shot for shot.
Kyle Korver is the real answer for a guy who is on same level as Curry or Klay as a shooter
Career 43% shooter on 4.6 attempts from three a game
God the game evolves so fast lol. Assuming down years weighing his average down, Korver probably attempted 6-7 3s a game.
Steph is basically averaging double the attempts since 2015. Harden in his prime felt like he was attempting 20 a game lol.
It’s wild it took the NBA a while to realize Korver was really good haha. People just assumed he was a 3point white guy…. Korver is a legit big, long 6-7 defender. Average defender with absolute elite shooting
Huh? Dude played until he was 39 and shot 39%, 43% from 3 two of his last 3 years lol
I don’t count those last two years (he broke his leg in his second game as a Laker and was never the same), and he was an All-Star in his last year with the Suns. He could have been a lot more in the Lakers stint if it wasn’t for his injuries.
That fucking bodycheck by Robert Horry was one of the biggest bitch moves I’ve seen in NBA history.
Nice to see a young kid with a 2 motion jumper.
As a Laker fan, his injury still stings to this day. If I remember correctly, it was the second game of his first season with the Lakers and it was against the Trailblazers. Was it Lillard that accidentally hit him in the shin or something which caused a fracture? Ever since, he was never the same…
Veteran Nash is kinda crazy. He was 38 when he finally started to decline since he started to hit his stride very late at 27. He’d defied Father Time long enough, he was due lol.
jumper as beautiful as I remembered
How clean the shooting mechanics, jumps out from the frames. Outstanding.
It’s so cool to see former players looking this smooth. So many of them refuse to play for fear of looking silly, but Steve still looks pure.
“does that make sense” after hitting the crispiest 50yo slow mo tween 360
Just do this elite movement with shotmaking while looking effortless
Right, that spin is going to take some time to get down. He was hitting those on the suns and no guard was doing it better
Right?? His jump shot still the same! Beautiful stuff
Skill guys esp the shooters seem to always have it. Guys like Chris Mullin and Reggie Miller when on set with a ball always joke that they can out shoot anyone still. I think the major difference is the elite shooters needed the skill just to make it to the league vs guys that were athletes that needed a shot to adapt to the league.
When Bird was still the Pacers President of Basketball Operations, the players came in and Bird was shooting. He didn’t miss and they joked that he could still play. Bird responded with something to the effect of, he could never move like he used to but he could still shoot.
Damn I just said the same thing above before I saw your comment. Mullin was the first thought
I think there are also two other big factors: 1) Playing a high level sport for that long wrecks your body. The few former D1 athletes I know all have some sort of forever injury. 2) I imagine it’s an enormous mental relief to retire from your sport for most guys. They spend their entire existence, I most cases from like 8 years old, driven toward this ONE thing. I would assume most of them are not all that eager to reenter that headspace.
Yeah you can tell his back is a bit stiff but the skill is obvious
Chris Mullin was stroking 3s for years after he retired. The shot never goes for that kind of guy. Too many reps.
The required Bob Cousy can’t miss video
Up there with Barkley, Ewing, etc as all time greats without a ring
That’s what happens when you’re unlucky enough to play in the western conference during the Lakers and Spurs era.
99 Spurs 00-02 Lakers 03 Spurs 04 Lakers 05 Spurs 06 Mavs 07 Spurs 08-10 Lakers
Fucking Robert Horry!
Technically Ewing got a ring this year 😂
Nash also got one as a player dev coach with the Warriors
The one that shall not be named is probably the greatest of this list. But fuck that guy.
Why aren’t we allowed to say Shelvin Mack
That is 2018 Orlando Magic assist leader Shelvin Mack to you
Return of the Mack - once again!
Barkley is absolutely better than him anyways.
Brian white mamba scalabrine got really lucky to win a chip with the Celtics in his prime.
Otherwise he’d have to put his name on that list, too.
Thank God for the Great Doc Rivers.
The consistent pop sound the net makes from his shots is soo satisfying
Ahh that’s a beautiful sound, isn’t it?!??
It’s like the ball goes in softer than any other player’s shots somehow. It just drops like a feather. So satisfying.
I think it’s high arc and soft touch from using the power from his legs to shoot, not his arms.
Nash admitted he could have been more aggressive with his own shot during his career. He’d probably average 25⁄13 in today’s game with that added aggression and increased 3PA.
I remember one year his team had a bunch of injuries I think 2005-2006, I easily won my fantasy league his scoring was nuts.
I think that was when amare went out.
And Boris Diaw stepped up and became more of a playmaker on that offense.
So funny since you could sense that when you watched him play, he could create so much for himself and his teammates, very generous with the ball.
100%
His assists were so high because he was a great shooter and defenders tried to stay glued to him. He has the reputation of a classic pass-first PG, but he was closer to Steph Curry than he was to John Stockton, but offenses weren’t built around score-first PGs yet. He could have been one.
Damn miss him and Raja
Kid is a spitting image of him too
Nash doesn’t look anything like this kid.
He looks nothing like Jason Kidd wtf OP
Doesn’t raja have another son who was like a 5 star QB? At Texas now?
Yes Dia Bell
For anyone under 25, the shots they are working on are called MID-RANGE and still are legal in basketball for 2 points.
Why bother training it? Just take a couple of steps back, and it’ll get 50% more points per shot
Don’t even have to dribble to do it!
Man, we gotta start with BOX THE FUCK OUT
I would’ve loved to seen Nash in the modern NBA , with the all space and pace the league plays and shooting a lot of 3 pointers
Nash for his time period was an anomaly of sorts
Imagine him in a break during this era. Behind the back passes, wrap around passes, and my personal favorite where he puts a spin on the ball during a bounce pass.
Man’s shot is clean as ever. Nothing but net
I highly recommend people watch him break down his shot
Synchronized dance at 1m14sec is cool
it doesn’t even hit the rim. wtf!
I was about to say. Cuz jumper is straight wet. Snapping the net every time.
Nash’s game is so aesthetically pleasing
For the first 60 seconds I thought he was playing basketball for his first time. Then he started shooting and doing between the legs dunks
It’s kinda crazy tho like how raw talented this kid is, but then you put him beside a legend like Nash teaching him the fundamentals and it’s like one of those “you know nothing, kid” moments.
Nice to see Nash moving like this after all those times seeing him courtside laying on his stomach because of his back
Does he ever hit the rim???
Once after a spin move.
Idc what anyone says. This mfer averaging 28-12 in the modern nba on like 55/45/95 shooting
When he was playing if you saw him brush his chest with his hand, the Amare p&r was coming.
Nash still looks in game shape.
He got Uncle Steve to school him.
Looks like Nash could still lace em up and give a strong 10-15 minutes for quite a few teams
Nash’s jumper has always been butter.
This is cool and all, but it’s also what makes it harder for people with less fortunate circumstances to compete.
This is basically how people like them can maintain the status quo
This content is gold. We need to upvote this more and downvote low effort rage bait.
I would’ve loved to see Nash with green light to shoot for PGs today.
He was shooting 10 shots a game, as a career 50/40/90 guy.
Thumbnail looks like a Tate Mcrae video
Both of Raja Bell kids high level college recruits. His other son is Arch manning backup at Texas
Bro did Nash even hit rim once? He was too smooth
Pure shooter.
It was a treasure to watch him play.
Not a single shot hit the rim. All net, swish
Ever notice the velocity of the ball on Nash’s shot always looks so low? I think it’s because he’s getting such nice arc and backspin and it makes the ball look like it is just floating through the air and through the rim.
Not a single rim was hit by Nash
Tai’s brother Taco is one recording this btw so give him credit
Okay Taco
Man, have I missed that jumper.
That sound is so pure
Still smooth AF!
Why does Raja not look a day older than 2008
i still hate how dirty the Spurs did that Suns team man
i miss the run and gun suns. steve nash, raja bell, shawn marion, boris diaw, amare stuademire, kurt thomas? I think?, leandro barbosa, it was so fun to root for those guys.
Seeing Raja Bell wearing jorts in full dad mode is absolutely sending me
Nash looks like he’s barely aged
I’d love to have a dedicated coaching session from an NBA player, even if I had to pay for it.
A proper session where you go all out and the player is also dedicated, not something for show and Instagram.
That jumper still so clean
Nash is aging at half speed!
Absolutely loved his game. My second favorite Non-Celtic, easily.
Create your own shot 101
But will he work out Leandro Barbosa’s son?
Does anyone know what shoes Nash is wearing??
It’s crazy how much he reminds me of Dragic here. I know he basically emulated Nash and was his mentor but seeing him slowing down the play it’s like I’m also seeing Goran Dragic here.
Step 1: Have the genetics of an NBA player
This dude only hit the rim once…….
need more nash in videos. one of the cleanest movement/jumpers ever
I’m surprised by how well he can still move TBH. Most of these older guys who are commentators/analyst walk around looking super stiff
The ball never hit the rim
Man I wish we could have seen Nash in this era. It’s built perfectly for his game. No doubt in my mind Nash would have been a 25⁄12 or more type of guy in the modern NBA.
Such a smoothe efficient shot, fantastic handles that weren’t flashy, incredible court vision, and he was an underrated scorer at the rim, he was elite.
Steve Nash is one of the all-time great mid range scorers. Seriously, if you haven’t watched his scoring highlights do yourself a favour. He used to absolutely abuse other guards, but preferred to play as more of a floor general. In today’s game he’d be incredible, especially considering he’s also one of the greatest shooters ever.
One of the best to ever do it
I love the video of Nash breaking down tape of his career and he was so critical of himself, even when he was cookin dudes. To be that short with average athleticism and still get MVP means everything else is elite. Was ahead of his time, but his choice of shorts in the league was not. #shortshortsnash
My dad and I went to a preseason game the year the Suns drafted Nash and couldn’t believe we wasted our first round pick on a tiny nerdy looking white dude.
And none of that travelling BS.
I really respect Nash. For all the love he gets he’s still underrated.
Poetry in motion!
Watching this makes my heart so full! 🥹
I keep forgetting he had that tenure as Nets HC.
Nash as always gets the praise but really impressed by this boy’s motor skills at 0:46, perfectly coordinated mirroring Nash
Nash would be extra lethal in today’s game
Bet he won’t be working with Jason Richardson’s kid anytime soon
Who’s recording these things?
