Maxey is way better at shooting off ball but he had to shoot on ball a ton. I wouldn’t be shocked if he shoots 37+% from 3 this year,  maybe even getting into 40 territory

Embiid may lower percentages because he actually shoots 3s compared to other bigs, but he increases team volume which is also valuable and he does have gravity which is the biggest factor

All of those are valid points but I do think at some point, talent just wins. I like their bench with Wade, Simons and I was a huge Philon fan coming into the draft. Caldwell-Pope is a great flyer.

I also expect Edgecombe’s defence to improve in his second season. He was already solid as a rookie. And the big piece for me is Brown. If, and this is a huge if and problem won’t happen - if Brown is willing to actually be what this team needs defensively, he has the ability.

Yes, when Embiid gets hurt, Bona has not proven to be an adequate backup for more than a few minutes at a time. That’s worrisome. But backup centers are also relatively cheap. Nick Richards is currently a free agent.

All in all, no roster is perfect but I really love Philly’s roster.

If they ain’t a contender they sure got you worried like they are. 

It’s definitely the biggest weakness of the team. Improvements from Maxey and Edgecomb don’t seem unlikely to me however. 

This is not as disastrous as it looks without context. Both Maxey (41%) and VJ (38%) were good catch and shoot 3 point shooters last season. Embiid a 33% still pulls the opposing big out of the paint and Bron could get back to >36% shooting now that the sciatica is not an issue (hopefully).

The worst shooter is Brown but only in catch and shoot scenarios. His pull ups are actually ridiculously good. You could mix an offense that allows him to play to his strengths without shooting yourself in the foot. Also, none of these players are unwilling passees, they’re just not that good outside of Bron, Maxey. So, with Bron as a connecter you could expect the offense to hum when all five are playing.

So you’re predicting how a lineup we’ve never even seen play together will perform based on last season’s stats, when some of those players were playing in different systems with different teammates?

I mean, sure you can put their collective stats into a formula, or in this case NBA2K26, and it will spit out some thoughts/outcomes. But that’s really not how the NBA works.

Maxey has had seasons where he’s shot 40% from 3 and it was when his usage was less, same with Anfernee Simmons, I’d expect both of their efficiency to be better given the looks they’ll be getting. Edgecomb will likely be more efficient as well due to open looks, honestly I think the whole teams efficiency will be boosted from better looks and less shots

• Lebron’s 3P% dropped to 32.1% in 2022-23. But then it jumped back up to .410 & .376 the next two seasons and fell down to 31.7% last year. If you had written this comment ahead of the 23-24 season you would’ve claimed that LeBron’s shot was gone and you would have been dead wrong. Because the NBA isn’t just repeating the past year.
  
• Maxey led the NBA in MPG and while exhausted his 3P% dropped to 36.7%. He’s going to playing off-ball with a lot less of a workload. In games he played off-ball next to Harden he shot 45.3% from three.
  
• Embiid also went from a 33.5% shooter from distance without Harden vs 36.6% with him.
  
• VJ wasn’t all that great in self-creation, but he shot 38.7% off catch & shoot threes. He’s going to be playing a lot more off-ball.
  
• You’re also ignoring the passing element that comes along with & leads to points. Maxey’s passing skills aren’t all that special and they had no secondary facilitator on the team especially in the non-Embiid minutes. They added LeBron. Philon, Simons, & even Brown are all better passers than what they had a year ago.
  

And while you limited it to starters they have other capable shooters.

• Simons is a 38% career shooter from three.
  
• Wade is a solid 3&D.
  
• KCP shot 37.5% with LeBron & 41.5% with Jokic.
  
  • The last two years he’s played next to some of the worst passing in the league with Orlando & Memphis.
    
• Edwards shot 37.2% from deep last year.

Fair observation…but a few things to consider. Maxey, brown and lebron were the top 3 in transition points scored. VJ is also good in transition, I think like 25-30th. Barlow high energy good in transition. 4 players than can handle the ball in the starting lineup. LeBron is the best passer the sixers have had. Maxey is better off ball, dean wade will get tons of open looks. Can’t sleep on the bench, best the sixers have had in a long time. Anfernee was shooting better at 3 with the Celtics a better passing team than Chicago. Kcp should get open looks. Philon has a nice 3 ball. Gotta look at the whole team.

Maxey shot like 40% last time he played SG, I’d expect more from him with LeBron playing the point. He’s a fantastic off-ball player and a great spot-up shooter.

This is a funny thing to consider a weakness. The entire starting 5, minus VJ, has had season where they shot 39% or more from 3. And VJ is not far off that mark. So you have to worry about 1-5 from deep with our starting lineup. Hard to call that a weakness

I think it’s reasonable to expect Maxey to shoot much better like he did when Harden was on the team and he played more off-ball. And it’s reasonable to expect Edgecombe to shoot better this year. The question marks are LeBron and Embiid. LeBron shot really well for two years before last year’s sciatica stuff so we’ll see whether he comes back to that. Similarly with Embiid if his knees aren’t completely cooked he’s capable of shooting very well. Jaylen Brown is probably the least variable of the bunch but if he can keep shooting 35% or so it’ll be alright.

The Bucks were 2nd and above the Knicks. The Clipper were higher than OKC. The Wizards had the same %age as the Spurs and higher than the Pistons.

I understand the premise of this thought process; however, it’s fucking stupid. See the roster they had last year, that made a 3-1 come back against the 2 seed, and compare it to the roster they have now.

Doesn’t even remotely apply. What? Maxey had his best shooting year off all with harden and He is MUCH better now. VJ was a great catch and shoot guy but his percentage was awful off the dribble.

They have an absurd amount of talent, and talent is ultimately what wins playoff series.

I also don’t buy the concerns about POA defense or screen navigation. They have the athleticism and versatility to cause a lot of problems defensively. And with LeBron quarterbacking the defense, I think they’re going to be very good defensively when they actually have to be.

As for the threes, I think you’re putting way too much stock into one season. Maxey is a career 38% three-point shooter. Brown is at 36%. LeBron typically shoots around 36–37%. Edgecombe shot 35% as a rookie - that’s perfectly respectable. And Embiid is a career 34% three-point shooter as a massive center, which is more than enough to make defenses respect him.

The important part is that all five starters can make threes at a competent rate. Most teams can’t say that about their entire starting lineup.

Their lack of a quality backup center is going to kill them in the regular season I think. Embiid’s probably gonna play ~40 games and they’re going to figure out very quickly that Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti are actually not that good.

This is also such a meaningless stat considering that fact that there is a 2% difference between the sixers as a bottom 5 team and the wolves as a top 7 team. I would be willing to bet good money that the sixers will be a top 10 3 point shooting team next year.

I greatly dislike how three point percentage is now a valid and important stat for how a team performs. I remember when 3 pointers were still exciting because it wasn’t the basis of the entire game. Now every game feels like a 3 point contest.

Basketball is a team sport and you can’t just use their % from last year and imply it will be the same this year because the team is dramatically different. This is hacky statistics at best.

I’ll enjoy watching them. Most of their success will probably depend on Brown, Edgecomb and Maxey….and then how they mix in Embiid when he’s healthy. And no overusing Lebron….despite him looking like he has a spring in his step sometimes: overuse him and he’ll wear down and be exhausted and injured.

But that three point shooting is a bit concerning. There will clearly be nights where they look like dogshit.

My view is they have a lot of stuff to sort out. We’re just gonna have to wait and watch. People will need to not lose their minds if they lose two games in a row. They’ll be half a season just getting used to each other. Then swap some guys at the trade deadline and have another adjustment period.

Teams aren’t going to let LeBron, Tyrese, VJ, Joel and even Jaylen shoot open 3’s. So their percentages won’t matter because Jaylen and LeBron will be driving and dealing with the paint or mid range mostly.

On top of that Tyrese can handle the ball but mainly plays off ball so LeBron fits perfectly

Jaylen’s is one of the best two way wings especially come post season.

And if Joel embiid is healthy, he’s literally spaces the floor while retaining the ability to be dealing downlow.

Say what you will about Brown off-ball, but he’s a great on-ball defender. They also have VJ who showed great defensive potential last year as well as Wade who is an excellent defender and has been one of the league’s best defenders against Brunson. LeBron can still play defense, he just can’t do everything at once. Embiid’s biggest issue with defense is his injuries. Which is where having others around him helps reduce his wear and tear. Plus KCP if he rebounds from two irrelevant seasons. Barlow is a solid defender off the bench, as far as bench players go.

While Maxey isn’t a good on-ball defender, he’s managed to be great at picking off or intercepting the ball. While you’ll mention transition defense you don’t mention transition offense - where they now have the league’s 2nd, 3rd, & 4th best transition scorers from last year (Maxey, LeBron, Brown), along with a player like VJ who can certainly contribute there. They are going to be an offensive force in transition.

Not even being a jilted JB hater. I’ve been telling people I have a hunch the 6ers are going to be way worse than the general consensus thinks lately.

People don’t understand that there is a difference between good spacing vs just looking at 3 pt % for the roster.

You can still have great spacing, even if your overall 3pt % is low. For example, Luka hits 35% of his threes for his career (you would never feel comfortable leaving him open on the perimeter).

76ers will have great spacing.

There isn’t a single starter that can be left open behind the 3pt line. Meaning when Lebron / Brown / Maxey drive to the hoop, help defense will be less incentivized to sag off and contest these players at the rim.

Whether or not the team collectively hits a high # or % of threes matters much less than the amount of space that the elite slashers on this team will have to operate.

Im kind of excited for this philly team they have a lot to prove. Its a good team on paper but when you look closer in it feels like there are a lot of cracks. So many people here are refuting these %s and a lot of their points are valid but to me the team really does feel like its the most unpredictable in the east very easy to be a disaster season or a fantastic season. Knowing old “super” teams its leaning more disastrous but vj and maxey are young and brown is peaking so its possible they can get better next szn without lebron
