The state government abandoned Gary many decades ago when it became a popular place for black folks moving out of the south to go and get a stable job in the steel industry. Gary did alright with the population and economic increases for awhile, but when the steel industry in the area left there wasn’t much else. Since the state government had already abandoned them they’ve just kept ignoring the city ever since.

This is an indictment on the entire state government. Gary is not the only place without power. It’s your state’s inability to hold Nipsco accountable and to properly invest in infrastructure.
Off-topic but when I worked for my local cities school district and was a government worker about three days out the week we would not do anything and literally sit around and not fix up schools.
