Dennis Schröder recorded 17 points and 10 assists, helping his native Germany cruise past the Czech Republic.
International goat
Dennis Schröder is a Hall of Famer
Dennis Schroder is a lesson to sign the deal
He has made $85 million since passing on that deal. I am sure he is fine.
Regret dont usually account for what is present, but only what is lacking
so he could have been at 140 guaranteed earning since then? ($ 84 mil until 2025 and then an equivalent contract of the one he signed with the kings). I guess it’s not that bad, since it’s “only” half, but then again, it’s very stupid since he never stood to gain much more than that and obviously he could have lost a lot more than just half since injuries exist
He could have also taken the deal, resulting in more minutes, then had his Achilles explode and earned nothing after that day.
And he got an absurd bag from the kings last summer being past 30 and having an alright (not even great mind you) half season with Detroit. I can’t fathom why they gave him 45 over 3 seasons, and teams are still passing that contract around like a blunt cause nobody wants in on the books. I think there’s almost 0 chance he gets his current contract if he took the 80 mil because nobody would talk themselves into overpaying him every again after that
I think there’s almost 0 chance he gets his current contract if he took the 80 mil because nobody would talk themselves into overpaying him every again after that
that’s a very silly assumption, because you can’t even explain the contract he has gotten from the kings in this timeline. why would you think you could predict/explain any other contract in the alternate timeline
huh? …when evaluating a contract, prospectively and retrospectively, you look at possible outcomes, i.e. money earned in a contract/alternative to the contract. the alternative case was “not taking a guaranteed contract and waiting for a better moment to get a better contract. obviously in such a case, looking at the possibility of injury before getting that very better contract is reasonable.
whatever kinda thought popped into your mind has nothing to do with this reasonable evaluation.
Majority of that thanks to the Kangz.
I was like what the fuck are you talking about, but damn Shroeder gotta be Germany’s best player ever now ain’t it
A decade more of Franz playing at the level he has for them.. 🤔
Dirk Nowitzki?
Shroeder’s far more accomplished, isn’t even close
I take it you talk strictly national team then. If so, sure.
Of course
Which matters most.
Certainly not germanys best international player. Most accomplished yes. But that is because he played on much better teams than Dirk.
I’m sorry he doesn’t go beyond Pau Gasol
Beeing the best national team player of all time for a country, that had Nowitzki, says a lot.
Tbf Dirk had no team around him. It’s always a bit easier to play well if your teammates also have to be defended
Guys, I don’t want slander Dennis at all. As a german myself I’m a fan of him and especially ehat he foes for the german national team, scene and the city of Brunswick.
Sure and because he was the best player for the Mavs, they also kept him from playing in some tournaments.
It still doesn´t change anything about Schröders german goat status. And Dirk would be/is the first to say so.
Honestly Schroder has also played in a surprising number of playoff games himself throughout his career which makes his international stuff even more impressive.
i feel like dennis being a relatively normal sized human helped his physical longevity
TIL he’s only 6’1. I always pegged him as more like 6’3-6’4 because of how lanky he is. It makes how well he’s done even more impressive.
Also he doesn’t play above the rim at all, rarely see him try to go all out jumping, his actual shooting form he kinda tippy toes with his form like a big would, it’s more of a set shot. If your jumping like 1⁄3 the amount everyone else is in the sport and when you do jump your barely excreting effort, that probably bodes well for your joints long term health. No wonder he’s still so explosive even in his early 30s. I think he’ll still probably age like fine wine into his mid 30s provided his jumper doesn’t fall off a cliff
Fully understand, but he’s still the best German national player. Arguably not the best basketball player to ever play for Germany. But of those who did, he’s done the best & contributed the most.
Yeah, I agree
can´t overstate how insane and crucial his availability for the national team has been
He had Schröder.
Sadly Germans will never give him his flowers because “he’s not German”
Dennis Schroder is the Michael Jordan of international basketball.
Jokes aside, I think he’s more like a Pulisic, Tim Cahill, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Paolo Guerrero. World soccer is full of guys who are stars for decent national teams while being just slightly above average compared to the top club level.
Pulisic? God damn the us propaganda does work 😂
Come on bro that’s the Lebron James of soccerball
Pulisic sucked at the last WC and struggled with injuries, but he does have 33 goals for the USA in 90 caps. I think he fits the Schroder mold pretty well. Important player for his national team. Not that big of a deal in the club game. Actually, Pulisic has probably been more relevant in club soccer than Schroder in club basketball, being one of the better players at a diminished AC Milan vs. being a journeyman in the top league. Pulisic wouldn’t get into the team for a big nation like Spain or England, just like how Schroder would never get capped for the USA.
More relevant in club soccer is insane. It’s hilarious how incomparable those things are. Soccer has players spread out all over the globe in a million different leagues. The ~500 NBA players are 500 of the best 550 (that may be generous, it’s probably more like 500 of the best 520-530) basketball players in the world.
In other words, the NBA to other basketball leagues is absolutely the best basketball league, and it’s so much so to the point of there being very few players who are NBA quality (as in not get cut from rosters by the end of training camp, not even talking about getting significant playing time) ) that are in overseas leagues.
Soccer has leagues that are better than others for sure, but there are so many leagues to the point that the talent distribution is relatively round compared to other sports. I don’t follow soccer that closely, but it definitely isn’t true that almost any active player in the top league could go to the next best league and instantly become one of the best players there. Look at what Kendrick Nunn did and tell me the Euroleague is somewhat comparable to the NBA.
Schroder is a slightly above average NBA veteran. Good enough to stick in the league, but not really good enough to have any meaningful legacy. Pulisic is a perfectly fair comparison, and maybe even generous. He won a Champions League as a relevant contributor for Chelsea and has been one of the best players for AC Milan since going there.
CL/EL are roughly the soccer equivalent of the NBA since they represent a collection of all the best teams in the continent. Like Schroder, Pulisic can be the star of a mediocre EL team or a rotation player at the top level. The comparison fits. Sorry that German fans don’t like it, just like how many USA soccer fans want to think Pulisic is more than just a squad player for a top club team.
You don’t get it. The difference between the worst teams of the CL/EL and the best teams in other leagues is infinitely smaller than the difference between the worst NBA teams in any given year and the best teams in any of their league
Schroder can be a star at any level other than the NBA
Mate Schroder let Germany to a WC win. None of these guys is remotely comparable.
Hello Iam German so I might be biased BUT Dennis Schröder is the leader / best player of a World Champion and European Champion! don’t compare him to Pulisic please….
I think that’s really underselling him. Germany isn’t some scrappy underdog Cinderella story, they’re a legitimate top class team competing for podium places in major tournaments.
He’s more like Modric with Croatia except Modric obviously has a way better club career. I think a better comp would maybe be James with Colombia.
He’s playing in so many international games. Really the Germany goat.
Future hall of famer, legend for our country
He’ll make the FIBA Hall of Fame.
People don’t know this, but the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame indirectly stopped considering international accolades post 2000 without a great NBA career after the FIBA Hall of Fame was created. They used to care for international awards a lot but that was because there was no FIBA Hall of Fame. Lucky for guys like Oscar Schmidt, Nikos Galis, and even Vlade and Drazen who did play in the NBA with some success but still needed their pre 2000 international accolades but for post 2000 players, they aren’t making it without a great NBA career because it’s the way it has been since then.
So too bad for Dennis, Luis Scola, Ricky Rubio, and even better NBA players with great international careers like Peja. You gotta be Manu/Tony level in the NBA.
Nonsense. 6 guys with FIBA accolades have been inducted since 2010. Between 1990 and 2010 it was like 6 as well. So about the same if not more.
Name me a player who played the majority of their playing career after 2000 who got into the Naismith Basketball HOF primarily on their international accomplishments. That’s all.
I’m not talking about players like Manu who had international accomplishments but who also had a great NBA career. I’m talking about getting in primarily due to their international career. I’m not talking about players like Oscar Schmidt and Toni Kukoc who were inducted after 2000 but played their important parts of their career before 2000. I’m literally talking about players like Peja Stojakovic who played the majority of their career after 2000 and who have been eligible for many years now (and I think Peja might eventually get in too since his NBA career was kind of good). That also includes Dennis Schroder and Ricky Rubio.
The FIBA Hall of Fame started inducting players in 2007 for the first time, and there’s a small lag time so post 2000 international accolades are allotted for that Hall of Fame now. The Naismith used to be the only HOF so they cared about college, international, and professional NBA accolades but the recent inductions of the FIBA and College Basketball HOF makes the Naismith primarily a professional HOF these days, even though in name it still includes the older college and international players pre-2000 before the other 2 HOFs started their inductions.
You are literally responding to me who has literally talked to several people who were on the selection committee of the Hall of Fame and who explained their general process these days.
If a alligator ate one of Luka‘s legs today and he never played another game, he‘d be a HOFler.
Which ones who played in the modern era where all the best international players play in the NBA right away? I’m curious to know.
Fiba Schröder is different
Let’s gooo, Charlotte Hornets national team with an easy win 💪
International Schroder is a top 20 player OAT
Schroder is a different beast in international competitions.
He may be a different beast, but he’s the same animal.
He’s a cat. Schröderger cat.
You’re welcome.
He is the reigning FIBA men World Cup MVP.
And Eurobasket
Dennis balls out Internationallly
Dennis really out here looking like prime CP3 every summer, then remembers he plays for the Raptors in October.
He’s a hornet now.
Sellsword of the NBA
Twelve teams split one man, one man unites for one country. Schröder Über Alles.
Does everybody want Dennis, or not want him based on how much he’s traded?
He’s somehow found a way to be both.
I’m surprised nobody has wanted to keep him around long term as a back up 6th man. When he was in Detroit I was super impressed by his play.
Like he’s been dealt so many times why doesn’t a team just lowball him a long contract, he’s gonna sign it.
Charlotte might be the one. After trading Lamelo most of our PGs are combo guards and Schoder would be the most experienced out of all of them.
Exactly, he is a family man, he talks a lot about how much he values stability, also he has been amazing as a culture builder for Germany so I don’t really get why no one keeps him around. But maybe his German directness rubs people the wrong way.
FWIW he did sign a long term contract just last offseason with Sacramento. He’s on his 3rd team now since signing that contract
RIP lol
The problem in Detroit is that he wanted to start and there ain’t no way he’s starting over Cade.
both. he’s good but not that good. and fills a role a lot of teams want (backup ballhandler) but also isn’t super critical if a more critical role is able to be filled with a trade
dude managed to min max tradeability
He still has that dog in him
International Schroder is up there with sea level Cain
Thanks for adding that gay af music
This dude is fucking sick at international ball. I love it.
Mein Löwe, mein Bär
Schroder is basically Podolski of basketball for Germany.
Dennis Schroeder is a good NBA player, who just happens to fall in that weird category of being between the 25th to 40th best point guard in the league. Not good enough to start on a contender, but usually the first player off the bench on playoff team. What a truly fascinating career.
A guy like Dennis Schroder is a Tier 1 basketball player when both teams have way less depth of talent. Like when the gap between the best players & the worst players is way bigger. Never fails to disappoint in Fiba or The Olympics
German sports legend. Not just basketball
OP is confused theres no country called Czech Republic
Here’s another way to say Schroder is the international goat and flood the comment section
Much like Miroslav Klose, Schroder is much better for country than any club he plays for.
The REAL basketball.
That Schröder-Theis connection 😍😍😍
how many teams does bro play for 😭
International Schroeder right up there with Hoodie Melo
80 mill legend
Ok
