[Highlights] Sixers Coach Doc Rivers throws Ben Simmons under the bus in an interview after the 76ers loss to the Atlanta Hawks, doesn’t know if he can be the point guard on a championship team.
Doc was right.
He was but saying this publically is a major head coaching leadership failure.
And it’s reasonable to think that it could have been one of the catalysts for Simmons’ spiral
I dunno if I coached Ben Simmons it would be difficult to defend him. Dude was more interested in fashion and other side quests than being a legit NBA player.
This was actually one of the most minor instances of him throwing guys under the bus he has done far worse.
The situation was the worst.
Ben obviously messed up.
Its your job as a coach to protect your player in that situation.
He was defending Ben Simmons all year, and he does slip up and it’s over. Joel Embiid’s response was worse.
He was right wasn’t he?
He can’t even be a point guard for a basement dwelling team at this point
He’s the coach of the team. Being right or not is irrelevant.
Being right wasn’t the issue. The head coach should at least pretend he doesn’t think it was one players fault. At least keep the narrative “it was a bad game, he knows what he has to do, he got us to where we are this season” thn try to trade him. This kills his value, makes you look like a dick, forces upper management to trade him, divides the locker room etc
I remember them making this a big deal and the reason for his confidence going down. Ben Simmons is currently on a fishing team btw
Fun fact: He rejected an offer from the Knicks to take a minimum that I’m pretty sure would’ve meant they would have been an NBA champion this year
Be like raptors legend Jeremy Lin 😂
Well Lin was a waiver signing but I digress
Ben Simmons jumped under that bus himself
Doc was right but he also ensured that he would be right by destroying what little confidence Ben had left
i know we supposed to auto hate Doc here, but he was dam right
Was he wrong?
Ppl criticizin doc woulda had a field day with Phil Jackson and what he use to say bout Kobe 😂
Not sure how that can be interpreted as “throwing him under the bus”. It was a pretty fair answer (missed free throws, get in the gym more, still believe in him) to a direct question.
Also not nearly enough credit given to the suffocating defense of Trae Young on that play.
He’s right but he shouldn’t be doing this publicly
A few things:
He was right. I said they should’ve sold high in 2019 and idiots on here kept saying “he average 16-8-8 and guarded 1-5 as a sophomore you’re dumb”. Lo and behold…
Ben absolutely could’ve been a championship starter though. People get too comfortable calling him a bust. He was a 3X All Star, 2X All-D, All-NBA, and RoTY all while on his first contract.
Doc is a bum. Who tf says this about their year 4 starting point guard when you’re a known loser yourself lmao
He was right
Is the clip where he threw him under the bus and said Simmons couldn’t be the starting of on a championship team getting dropped in the comments or…
My flair will tell you, I’m as quick to shit on Doc as the next guy. Hell, I even did before I watched the clip. But yeah, dude literally says none of what’s in the title. Just generic get better and keep pushing coach speak.
