Teams have been changing ownership rather quickly it seems. With franchise values increasing quite quickly. Lakers and wolves were bought and sold twice in this time. Could we soon see franchise values stagnating and decreasing overtime?

A more realistic scenario would be the NBA allowing for public vote on ownership bids, especially if they are going to turn around and ask for tax dollars to build new stadiums. But that’s also never going to happen.

We’ll see. This whole aspiration thing has shown us that Silver cannot enforce anything meaningful against centi billionaires like Ballmer.

The foundation of any sports is the trust, and if centi billionaires and private equity can circumvent the rules without being punished, then the whole foundation is broken.

First and foremost, the NBA is an entertainment product to help billionaires park and invest their money without being taxed - I’m sure they’ll find a way to keep inflating valuation, but we shall see.

It’s not a bubble, because the NBA creates artificial scarcity in how many teams are available. An entrepreneur can’t just pool some money together with his buddies and start an NBA team in their town

Each franchise represents a commercial footprint in a large American market (including tv rights, real estate holdings etc).. literally the perfect low risk high reward asset for private equity
