Serbia’s Nikola Milutinov locks up Wembanyama, forces a turnover and starts a three-on-one fast break, which leads to a one-handed alley-oop slam
Why can’t nuggets just buy some of Jokics Serbs on low contracts? Can’t be worse than Braun
Braun is good, he hurt his ankle, so last season it looked like he’s way overpaid.
It didn’t look like he’s way over paid, he is over paid. By a lot…
Dude is a certified Jokic merchant and the low iq nuggets offered him 125M
Also a Russ merchant since Russ for us was really good at fast breaks and unlocked Braun
Saying bad things about their favorite white boy and good things about Russ. You have been banned from r/nuggets
Lol, did you get banned from there?
Yes. Ignore my flair.
He got paid before Russ joined you absolute donut
I thought about that as well. Serbia was going toe to toe with team USA, and most of them are playing on cheap contracts in the EU. Get them, hell, get the serbian coach as well while you are at it. Boom, you got Denver Serbia
Because that’s just one game, and their performance would look a lot different over an 82-game NBA season.
Playoffs are played in a 7 game series
Yeah. I don’t get it. Bunch of them already have a good chemistry with Jokic.
If I’m one of the Serbians I’m not signing a low contract to just to potentially get passed around as trade filler as part of “the business” following minimal playing time, I’d make more in Europe and play more
They should try Avramovic. Look at Devin Booker’s video after medal award ceremony in Paris 2024. He plays a hard on ball defense.
They didn’t even get Bogdanovic for a minimum even though he’s arguably been better than Jokic for the Serbian NT.
The NBA is so obsessed with numbers and stats that they are completely blind to leadership, team chemistry, and finding players that play with heart rather than to maximise their next contract.
Just two Spurs legends going at it.
Draft and stash legend Nikola Milutinov finally delivering for the Spurs franchise 9 years later
Lol I really thought he was gonna be a good addition to our team
yeah i agree this wembanyumbun kid has been a real let down. heck I can’t believe he kept his starting position over killa kelly olynyk last season, his per36 is crazy.
/s
Wemby still thinks he’s a guard for some odd reason.
That French team has great size and shit guards, that’s why
France kind of has the inverse roster problem to Canada who have insane guard depth and no bigs
They’re really hoping Edey comes on
He does with the Spurs too to be fair, a decent chunk of his turnovers are him just overdribbling into trouble and losing the ball or throwing panic passes that give away easy fastbreak points. Not the end of the world though you don’t improve at it unless you try
don’t worry they got team chemistry
Someone on that France team has to try to be lol
He wants to be taller Kevin Durant
He doesn’t want to be taller KD, he wants to be Wemby. Wemby is not a post big, he does not have the core strength. Wemby has a mobility and technical advantage over other bigs, so it only makes sense that he’d try to shift his game into a perimeter style.
Sounds like taller KD.
There’s this odd belief, that not doing this, means Wemby should be posting up.
No, Wemby should just not be dribbling it more than 2-4 times. In this possession, he does a right crossover, didn’t lose his man. Hit’s a behind the back dribble and still can’t lose his man, loses the ball in the process of controlling the dribble.
Largely it’s not even a forced error. There is a really, really big reason why we don’t have big dribbling and it’s because of the randomness of a big man’s dribble. Too much travel time, too much force.
KD is big, but he can keep low to the ground and play like a guard if needed. Has been able to since HS, genuinely never seen Wemby play anything but a big man role. It’s still strange seeing him try it.
He can drible but he doesn’t have the speed to past over this smaller players
I mean, he’s big enough that he doesn’t really need to lose his man.
In this specific example he fucks up his dribble, but if easier said than done ofc) he gets an okay gather, he’s just managed to collapse three defenders on him. He’s so tall that he can safely jump shot above guards in the key. Or he has two option to pass it out for an open 3. Hell, even Jokic is being worried of Wemby making it up to the basket, and is ready to help, opening space for a potential pass for Raynaud.
So, for sure he has to tighten his dribble, but he’s already a menace ball in hand. With modern basketball going more and more positionless, and the rise of point forwards, it’s only natural for him to try to develop such skills (and he’s still very young!).
In the playoffs against the Thunder the Spurs used point Wemby as a counter to Hartenstein guarding him. He’d bring it up and use inverted screens to create separation because big men aren’t used to fighting over screens like point of attack guards are, it was a really fun wrinkle by the Spurs coaching staff and it led to IHart getting benched pretty early on.
I know we aren’t saying he should post up, but if he developed a skyhook it would be more like an orbital hook, completely unblockable. Just a couple post ups a game would help round out his game. Going 1⁄6 from three with 6 turnovers means the most unique player on the court was completely ineffective. That shouldn’t happen.
He’s not getting a hook, but agreed on the rest. Still haven’t been convinced he understands his own strengths on offense. Which is alarming 3 years in.
It’s like he thinks he is 6’6
I don’t know how far apart we are.
I think we agree that Wemby should be operating like Kawhi. See how the defense is guarding you, pick your spot, then attack or dish it, be efficient with your movement.
But I dont think Wemby doesn’t know that or doesn’t know his strengths.
I think a lot of people don’t appreciate how exhausting Wemby’s game is, and how much energy regulation is necessary on both ends. He needs to have possessions were he takes low energy, “bad” shots because it keeps the defense honest. If he stands in the corner to recover he’s in a terrible position to get back on defense, but if he’s at the top of the key and unwilling to shoot he’s destroyed the spacing and flow of the offense. And he can’t be expected to attack the rim all the time because he’s 7’4 and constantly getting hit and grabbed.
No he should not be operating like Kawhi. He should be a big man. He’s so much better playing as a rim runner than whatever he decides to do atm.
Lost him the Finals because he can’t accept his role IMO. Too much top of the key initiation like he’s Kobe, felt silly.
No that’s never, ever going to work.
His center of gravity is way too high to play like that.
Way to exhausting and ineffective to play that way.
It literally works, all his best games are him playing like a big lol and all his worst, playing like the above.
Wemby doesn’t need to be a post up big with his back to the basket, but he also doesn’t need to be taking the ball at the top of the key acting like he is white chocolate.
He can play on the wing or inside the arc. He can start in a post up and then face up and dribble along the baseline or just shoot over the player.
Starting at the top of the key is just the way perimeter players kind of have to play nowadays, it’s just too easy to get trapped and funneled to the baseline and you’re limiting your own passing options. Also, he doesn’t really want to shoot over players, given he’s not a strong mid-range shooter. He primarily wants to get downhill and force rotations.
This is also why he doesn’t want to face up on the interior. If his mid-range isn’t a significant threat ala Embiid, guys just won’t give him the needed room to drive.
Honestly it’s less about core strength and more about physics. He’d have to put on a ridiculous amount of muscle in order to beat people down the way someone like Shaq did and he was like 310 pounds doing that
😔 I’m tired boss
How dare you actually. Ungrateful ass.
Ay, don’t complain about our savior, blasphemer
“It was just a Friendly”, I reminded myself in a dark room.
He took a completely inexperienced Spurs team to the finals and this is the way you behave. Insanity.
Lmao I’m not doing this with yall tn
I can clown his ass but you better glaze the fuck out of his stepback 3s bro
How does the phrase go, it’s always easier to be better than a euroleague player until it’s time to be better than a euroleague player.
Knicks fans are already pouring into the comments lmfao
Where, I’m the first one I see
People just manifesting narratives at this stage
Repeat with me. Wemby should stop dribbling from mid-court every single play.
How else is he going to go 1⁄6 from three and be completely ineffective though?
Really it was great help defense
It was a really well timed steal by Djurisic, but he was already stumbling and losing control of the ball prior to him coming over (right after the behind the back move).
Djurisic just noticed it at the perfect time and pounced.
Where? Wemby has lost the ball before even his own defender attempts to swipe at it.
This the French team yall scared of?
No, there are still many players missing.
People on here screaming “Wemby should stop trying to be a guard” should look at France’s guard rotation
But he often does it when with the Spurs too?
Spurs got some quality backcourt guys, better than France at least.
Plays like an 8 foot Dalton Knecht on offense
Stop the KD gimmick
KD himself has the same problems
At least we now know it’s not Spurs coaches letting him do this.
he wants to fucking iso a shorter dude who can match his speed and failed miserably. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼
our final roster spot /s
Spurs traded his draft rights to nets. They have to renounce player rights.
Gotta hide away the Wemby stopper underneath the Barclays Center, with maximum security.
Love the comments from part time fans who only comment on highlights.
The real feat here is Wemby making Nikola look small
Lisan al-Gaib!
Wemby should literally never be sizing someone up who’s under 300 lbs
Still tryna crossover dribble from the 3 pt line 😒
Expected NBA defenses for a while now to attack the dribble of a 7’7 guy.
I mean, that’s just a random play from Wemby in the finals.
His offensive arsenal is C-tier.
Just do the Melo highpost pls
Wemby is too confident in that dribble, his bounce apex is at a guard’s eye level
this geniuenly looked like some mini or kids league possession after the crossover. staring at the floor dribbling and getting stripped
Zero bag
He’s not learning from the Knicks series
As expected.
YEAAA LOCK HIS ASS UP!!
Wemby is so overrated lol
yeah so overrated, carried his team to nba finals at 22 years old
loser.
GOATed for a 22 year old but some people are trying to anoint him already while also making the excuse that he’s inexperienced, you can’t have both
Most of his value comes from defense, his offensive game is still very raw
Spurs fan here. Not sure why you were downvoted.
