I’m a cat lover and travel for work and this is why I don’t currently have a cat. IMO it’s not fair to them to either move them around a lot (even if you can find pet friendly accommodation) or chronically leave them without companionship. Cats do best with stability and when they can be around their people.

Great point - he is on the road quite a bit. Ive heard that cats can be a bit independent and also sleep upwards of 6 hours a day, so maybe not too much to be concerned about.

Yah if I leave enough food out and a clean litterbox, I have no doubt my cat can take care of herself for a week. But I don’t like leaving her alone for a week
I feel guilty even leaving my cats alone one night. Just because cats are independent doesn’t mean they don’t get anxious when their human doesn’t show up for days. When I come back home after being away few days, my cats become velcro for day or two, making sure I don’t leave them again. After a few days, they’re back to normal haha.

That’s because he’s responsible, he knows taking care of an animal takes effort and it’s incompatible with the lifestyle of an active athlete. It’d be different if he had a wife/family, but afaik he doesn’t, making it much more difficult to manage road games and just overall the busy days players can have, especially on a championship team

As someone in the midst of dealing with an Aussie Shepherd puppy, I wish I liked cats too OG.
But I’m allergic… and my kids wanted a dog.
So not trying to sway anyone’s opinion, but all my life growing up, my mom told me I was allergic to cats. And my dad had two cats, and also smoked in his apartment, so every time I went over there, I felt awful. It felt like when I’d touch a cat I was miserable. Eyes itchy, nose runny, mouth breathing. I swear it was awful.
My girlfriend has two cats. I was hesitant for the longest time moving in together because what if I couldn’t deal with the cats? I read online you could get used to them, but I was worried I wouldn’t. And she’d never give them up. So what would happen?
Finally bit the bullet and took a chance. I took a Costco allergy pill every morning for like, two weeks. No drowsiness. It’s been 6 months and no issues at all. I love the cats and would never ever ever ever get rid of them. They are the coolest animals ever. I was a dog person before this but am squarely cat now. No allergies at all.
Again, not trying to convince anyone of anything but the “you get used to them” stories I heard are actually true.

I actually really love my stupid dog. She’s just a puppy and an Aussie which is a brutal combo. On the bright side, a lot of additional exercise from making her run around to burn her energy.
