[Highlights] 2019 Marc Gasol Playoff highlights.
The Raptors don’t win the title without him. He completely shut down Embiid in that 2nd round series.
Marc was probably the best 1v1 post defender in the NBA at this time and that series was a masterclass of that ability.
But he was also impecable in pick and roll defense, and his passing and spacing were crucial for the offense to function.
Marc Gasol is such a goated roleplayer, allowed so much lineup flexibility
Embiid’s stats vs him was absurd at one point.
Held him to 0 pts in 32 min the next year
He was so fucking annoying that series!!
He made vucevic look like a gleague player in the first round. It was like watching a dad vs his son
The 2019 raptors is one of the best defensive teams of all time.
Gasol Bros are one of the best hooping brothers combos of all time
In terms of them both being high-level players, maybe the best ever? I think Pau gets the edge but the gap between them isn’t as big as say the Lopez bros. Or the Currys. Time will tell on the Thompsons. There have been quite a few, but I feel like the Gasols are a cut above everyone.
Edit: These highlights are wild. I forgot how great he was in this series.
My dumb ass googled “Klay Thompson brother”
Pivotal trade for that team man 💯💯
Was so sad to see JV go but can’t argue with the trade
I was super happy. I remember seeing Kyle being frustrated with JV because he couldn’t read the game well enough.
Always had mad love for Marc 🥹…left us and got the ring he deserved 😞
And then got super drunk at the parade 🍺
Marc was an absolute unit but had the softest of touches. Incredible reader of the player and ball too.
That team that won the title was so fucking stacked
Yeah 2019 Raptors is up there in terms of best nba teams post Moreyball for sure
Siakam, Gasol, Van Vleet, Lowry, Leonard, Normal Powell, Og Anunoby…. We need to talk about this team
Can’t forget Serge Ibaka and Danny Green too
Yeah u right
OG didn’t even play a single game in the playoffs, that’s how stacked that team was
He was injured.
we were robbed of the chance for that team to run it back
ppl always talk about how Kawhi was a huge upgrade from Derozan but it doesn’t get talked about how much of an upgrade Marc was from JV. Unlike JV, he was mobile, could shoot the 3, a much better passer - generally just a much better player than JV. He was almost just as key to winning that year as Kawhi IMO
Siakams growth that season was another huge reason
Saying a much better passer is underrating it. Gasol is one of the better passing bigs of all time. Part of it is the difficulty of his passes but he had an unreal feel for the game. Jokic I think kind of skews modern perception of assists for true big men but Gasol was unreal
And his biggest asset was probably that he was a great defender. Him containing Embiid during that nail biting playoff series was a masterclass
Peyton Watson trade and now Marc Gasol 2019 playoff highlights. Could this day get any better??
He was so fucking good for us that year
I know we lost JV but Gasol was crucial for the title
I love how every block every interception was a recovered ball. No bullshit out of bounds empty block.
Intangibles off the chart. Was great for the Lakers 2 years later
This team a lowkey stacked 2k team.
White Claw before its time.
Crazy how smooth his moves are given how clumsy at worst, herky-jerky at best he looked his first few seasons.
However high you rated gasol, having someone that good buy into a role of just being connective tissue / floor spacer / hard screener high post hub on offence while keeping his energy for defense is crazy value.
Super portable too bc he fits into almost any scheme and score more if you need him to but doesn’t have to score much to be a contributor.
Imagine Jokic with defense
And we chose Andre Drummond over him, smh.
Jokic with defense
