Murray averaged 25/4/7 with 40% from 3 last year. He costs 7M less per year than Brown. Lots of playoff and championship experience. He is a below average defender, but not terrible.

Tatum was MILES more impactful but I get your point. Jokic/Murray still one of if not the single deadliest duo in the league. It is the rest of the team that couldve used a boost. Not losing a real contributor for nothing
You’re not wrong about sample size and one series not being how you define a player. But, and this is a big but, the comparison to Tatum is way off considering that while Tatum was shooting those trash splits he was also leading the team in rebounding and assists and playing top tier defense. Murray was doing none of those things.
Tatum is better than Murray, no one disagrees with that. But Murray is a very good player and has been a key star on a championship team. He has his issues and it’s even reasonable to say you wouldn’t want him on that deal, but he still largely performs at a high level and it’s silly to say his contract is in WOAT territory.

He shot 43.5% which is a lot better than 40% lol while playing top 10 minutes, something like 400 minutes more than the next player on the team in a season filled euth injuries.
Murray’s worst games were after the series was already 3-1 ie done and dusted. In the first 4 games, nobody was efficient on the nuggets but Murray least put up three 30 point games.
When people say Murray has sucked in the playoffs for three seasons - Jokic from the standards of an ATG player has had the worst scoring/efficiency stretch in the playoffs of his career for the last three seasons after the Laker first round series in 2024. He has shot below or barely at league average for all players and below league for centers against MIN 24, LAC 25, OKC 25 and MIN 26 including two game 7 chokes where he first gassed out in the second half and started chucking bricks from three against MIN 24 and then gassed out and attempted 2 FGA in the second half against OKC.
From what it looks like in the interviews, the one part of the team he always defends including after losing this season was the Jokic/Murray aspect. He rejected the idea that it was the problem. If anything i think, a Murray trade by the Nuggets that he disagrees with might open him up to moving on.
Not sure about his fit with Tatum, he’s fairly high usage rate at 28% and pretty on ball which works with jokic.

Better analytically (our FO clearly values RAPM and it’s not close by that), don’t really take away from Tatum (who is a lot better than Ant), and they fit easier into the roster construction if they’re replacing PG - Payton/Derrick/Ant can’t be a SF so you probably have to move Payton to the bench and then start Hauser or Hugo or somebody at the 3.
Ant is a very good scorer, but he’s not a good defender or passer, doesn’t offensive rebound, and he’s extremely on ball heavy. Also weirdly just not a good finisher.

My guess is we’ll explore George trade options next year, but instead just get him to opt and sign long term at less per year.
Boston has zero reason to move Tatum, with three years of control before he could exercise his player option and leave.
Jokic is in his final season prior to that player option, and can very much opt out and leave after this season.
Denver would be wise to shop him by the deadline to get a maximum return, if they don’t think he plans on signing their $360M/5yr deal.
One team has an extremely well managed cap situation with tons of good players on great deals.

The “if” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Denver is still hovering around the second apron. They’re trending towards rebuild and this is one more domino that pushes them in that direction. They’re not there yet but who knows what happens next offseason and what they might be convinced or even compelled to do.
The long term vision when they traded Jaylen was flexibility to acquire another marquee player down the line, we’ll see

Based on observation since the start of the twitter era, it usually leads to some kind of anticipation. Then should an actual PG deal happen next year that’s waaay less enticing, that’s when emotions go crazy.

Basically there’s a small possibility of 2 things that could happen.
1: The nuggets blow it up and want an expiring contract for Jokic and we give them the PG contract and all of our picks and young players basically to make it worthwhile. This would likely require the nuggets to lose their mind and/or Jokic to hate the moves they make and want out, and for us to win a bidding war for the best player on the planet.
Very unlikely
2: The nuggets decide to blow it up over the next season or two, leaving Jokic dissatisfied and ready to see where he might want to go in free agency. This lines up perfectly when the PG contract expires and the Celtics suddenly can be in a spot to offer a max/supermax contract and still have room to build around JT and Jokic since we have reset the penalty clocks and can go 2-3 (I forget which) years out of 4 in the second apron without getting hit with the big penalties.
Slightly more likely, but still means Jokic will have to want out in free agency.
I’m hoping for #2, or that the PG contract is nice and tradeable at the deadline or next off-season and we get someone good for him that makes the JB trade kind of worth it.
