[Highlight] The duality of Joel Embiid
I was at this game and it was hilarious. We politely clapped for Embiid as he was helped off the floor and everyone thought he was finished
Then he came back in the 2nd half and we chanted “Fuck Embiid”
Frying me
Thats pretty tame for you guys, surprised you didn’t chant “we hoped you were dead”
Probably couldn’t figure the chant rhythm
That’s easier said than done
Used to love Embiid before he nearly ended Mitch’s career, now I actively root for his failure. Not the 6ers failure, Embiid’s failure
he got his getback
The duality of Embiid.
Healthy Embiid is basically 7’ Kobe
Problem is healthy Embiid is a mythical creature you get to see for like maybe a month per season
Yeah closest we came was his peak in 23-24 where he averaged 35/11/6 in 39 games until Kuminga dove on his knee. He was the best player in the league and would have won back to back MVPs.
Glad that bum Kumingas out of the fucking league bro
Kuminga is so funny bro. Guy could easily get a pretty basic “prove it” contract, but he’s holding out for more than he is worth having not accomplished anything in his career. Just one of the least self aware players in the NBA. There are guys who performed under expectation like Michael Beasley who seems like even he is world’s better than Kuminga, but even with Beasley it seems like he eventually realized his worth and the fact he would have to prove his worth even if he never really did. God damn, Kuminga has cost himself soooo much money being a doofus.
Mozgod understands his value 🤩
2024 Embiid is legit as good as any player in history. On top of an all-time stat line, his defensive impact rated around the 99th percentile, and he was playing like 33mpg so he was actually scoring more points than minutes
I’m pretty sure the only other guy to ever do that is 50ppg Wilt, which gets heavily discredited due to the absurd pacing of that era
Per-possession, Embiid was shitting on every other scorer in history
It was like a 30-40 game sample size though, we get crazy stretches like that a lot. Even last year, we had Wemby averaging like 30 with unreal defense for a while, Luka had a couple of months where he was like 38/11/11 or something, Jokic had his 30 point triple doubles but on 70-75%TS, Shai had some good stretches too
His scoring bag was insane. He was ok from 3 where he could hit one from the top of the key if you gave it to him. His midrange was incredible (still is). FT line extended seemed automatic. Just a single jab and he could pull or he’s athletic enough to blow by (or through) the defender to get to the cup. Then, he was a combination of power, footwork, and touch in the post. One of the most complete scorers I’ve seen.
It’s just a shame that he flopped so much and played for the Sixers otherwise I would have loved him instead of hate him.
And that was gonna be a unanimous mvp (it wouldn’t have been, but it was on pace to be a blow out by far)
Kuminga was screaming “A knee for a knee! Danny Green sends his regards.”
So you knee it was on purpose.
He kneeded to return the knee.
It wasn’t Kuminga. He was already starting to get some nagging injuries and flareups once again, but instead of the Sixers keeping it safe, they let Embiid play and then Kuminga dove to his knee.
Yes you’re right but it was ultimately the injury with Kuminga that derailed his season.
The real cause of it was everyone shitting on him relentlessly and calling into question his manhood when he sat out @ nuggets because he had a sore knee so he forced himself to play in the warriors game and looked like he was maybe at 30% health. The sixers were keeping it safe having him sit games out but I truly believe the pressure and criticism got to embiid and he felt he had to play.
We have never seen a healthy Embiid in the NBA, he started his career off injured.
I used to play like embiid…
My orthopedic surgeon used to call me the Michael Phelps of invasive procedures.
Michael Phelps looks weird without the swimming gear
You know what else looks weird without swimming gear?
deez nutz?
Got ‘em
My cock
Mike Ock looks great ok.
Then that’s his default state. The “healthy” Embiid what if is no different from 7 ft Curry or Ben Simmons with a 40% 3 pt shot.
A month? 😂 try a day
I remember watching the TJ McConnell game winner game and afterwards Embiid dancing with the cheerleaders lmao. I can’t believe it’s been 9 years. Poor guy just can’t stay healthy.
It’s tragic that as basketball fans, we were robbed of healthy Embiid because his body just couldn’t hold up.
His peak in early ‘23-24 was some of the highest level individual basketball ever played… and in my mind, the highest peak since Lebron/Curry.
He was almost like a make-a-player-in-a-lab guy: the 3-level scoring bag and perimeter creation ability of a wing at 7’ 280 lbs, 30+ ppg on 65+% TS, All-Defense level rim protection, and even the mobility to switch out to defend the perimeter.
Him injuring his knee like 2 weeks after that 70 point game was crushing for me. He was on another level that season.
The craziest part of his MVP season is that there were barely any highlights of him on Reddit. The only time his name hit the front page was due to a cherry picked clip to make him look bad. Sixers fans have been gaslit his entire prime. It’s actually crazy to see him getting his flowers these past few months on here. I wish fans would appreciate the all stars more.
I’ve been sticking up for Embiid for years and have taken a lot of shit for it (even in real life!). It’s sad how people didn’t appreciate him in his MVP contention years. People always talk about “appreciating legends before they’re gone,” but few have ever extended that to Joel.
I’ll always root for him to do well and get his flowers.
It’s tragic that as basketball fans, we were robbed of healthy Embiid
The man flops like a fish whenever he’s touched despite being usually the biggest guy on the court. Nothing tragic about missing that
he’s the worst flopper I’ve ever seen. So frustrating to watch, I completely agree with you, I won’t miss it at all
“Poor guy” who regularly tries to injure other players lol. Karma comes around. Don’t be a dirty player and lose some weight. Would love to see him healthy, if he changes his dirty ways. He is extremely talented obviously.
Average /r/NBA flairless comment. Link some dirty plays for us. Please start with the most egregious, and get a flair so I can do the same for your star 😘
Not sure we should still trust the process at this point…
How do you even trust your body after it fails you so many times, genuinely sucks man. Any little twist or slip and it probably feels like you tore something. Can’t believe he’s still playing.
I have a double ligament sprain in my ankle and I have to be conscious of every step. It’s exhausting at times. I’ve given up playing basketball or any sport really. One misstep and Im on the ground holding it like Peter Griffin.
These guys are nuts lol they can just phase that outta their minds to keep pushing their bodies to the limit it’ll let them.
Considering surgery at this point tbh. I miss sports.
Get that surgery and rehab done if possible, I had to stop rehabbing for my knee due to reasons and it kind of ruined me mentally and physically. I’m restarting rehab again but it’s a journey in itself.
I tore my achilles in my early 20’s and, now running around with 2 kids, am still nervous taking a quick burst step. One of my best talents in basketball was a quick jump when grabbing offensive rebounds and putbacks. I have no where near that lift anymore. I feel you brother
How long has it been? I had a severe ankle sprain years back, I got off crutches after a few weeks, but it took 8 or 9 months for me to be able to push off that foot without feeling any pain
Truth is he probably doesn’t trust his body and you could see it last year while he was playing, especially early in the year. He looked very timid and conscious of which leg he was jumping off or landing on. He has also talked about dealing with bouts of depression from the constant rehabbing only to lead to get injured again. That was on top of other mental things… like feeling guilt for being in America his rookie season, while his 13 year old little brother was killed in a car accident.
Bro has been through a ton since he hit the league.
That article was about Embiid was one of the most genuine things I’ve ever read, and I hope Embiid stays healthy next season.
He really doesn’t trust it at all, it’s sad.
All I do is pickup hoops at my la fitness and I hate jumping in traffic because of how nervous I am of my fragile ankles lol
And im only fucking 22
The Brandon Roy of LA Fitness Ankle Edition
Can’t believe he’s still playing
He has 63 million reasons to be still playing…
Yea, I am just some schmo who loves basketball, but that landing he had there looked so innocuous. Same thing happens to me when I play a couple days in a row. All of a sudden my body just betrays me doing basic shit.
There is no way he stays healthy with this Sixers super team. That’s a real shame because the Lebron/Embiid connection is by far the most interesting. It’ll likely just be Lebron feeding to a lot of small guards, Brown and Adem Bona/Andre Drummond. I like Maxey, but that team isn’t beating any of the top tier teams if Embiid is out, which he likely will be.
You don’t, not completely. Players have come out in the past and said that there is always this mental hurdle.
He’ll play 30 reg season games. The question is will he be healthy for the olayoffs
LeBron already won a chip with AD why not give AD version 2 a try
AD has actually been way more durable than Embiid. He averages like 8 more games played per season which is pretty significant.
When you average less games than a man Chuck nicknamed “Street Clothes”
Davis has joints and ligaments made of glass. Embiids disintegrated years ago lol
So what would be a more appropriate name for something less than Street Clothes?
Hospital gown
Pajamas
Mr Glass
Oh shit he even got the hair
Joel Embiid makes Anthony Davis look like Cal Ripkin.
Does that include Embiid’s first two seasons?
490 games in 10 seasons (without the first two) = 49 games a season
807 games in 14 seasons = 57.64 games a season
It’s actually closer to 9 more games per season, without counting first two. And those should absolutely be counted too. Which brings down Embiid’s average to 40.83.
Why should those be counted? He obviously hasn’t been healthy but those first two seasons still aren’t reflective of his availability the rest of his career
Aren’t reflective how? In the 10 seasons where he’s suited up for at least one game, he’s played 19, 31, 38, and 39 in four of them. What makes those any different from the first two? And this is by age 31, he’s gonna have a lot more barely 20-30 games played seasons before he retires. Are we not gonna count those too until we’re omitting more than half his career?
> where he’s suited up for at least one game
> what makes those any different
You kind of answered your own question. They were at the beginning of his career. The NBA considers his rookie year to be 2016-17, so it makes sense to consider that season onwards.
Unless of course you’re just trying to hate on the guy. In which case you do you
The NBA considers that his rookie year for season end awards. He’s considered an NBA player under contract for those 2 years as he was paid by the team/league. If your argument is that “It counts if he plays 1 game but doesn’t if he plays zero”, then you’re just doing arbitrary semantics. That may be relevant to official NBA stats or whatever, but we’re not discussing that. We’re discussing availability. And a player who misses nearly 50% of his games overall missing two whole seasons is very reflective of his career. Like people don’t ignore Kawhi missing an entire season when discussing his availability over his Clippers tenure. Klay Thompson or John Wall missing two complete seasons on their max deals gets brought up as “Played fewer than 50% games while getting the max”, not “Played 70% of the seasons they suited up in”. Why should Embiid be judged on different standards?
It’s different from klay, but I’m not gonna go back and forth all day.
Feel free to count those 2 seasons in your next novel about injury histories of two players that don’t play for your team
In other words, you have no argument outside of “I need to prop up one player and not the other”.
There is no difference between him and Klay in that particular stat, both players missed two complete seasons. Didn’t suit up for a single game. All you’re doing over and over again is showing your double standard that is biased towards one player.
If he was on payroll, count em
Thats excluding the first 2 seasons to be generous to him. He’s averaged 49 games per season from 2016-2026. It would be 40 games per season if I added the first 2 years.
Unless covid 2 is happening and we’re in a bubble again they won’t have as easy a path forward.
I could go for a covid 2 right about now. In a house instead of an apartment this time with easy access to a spacious park, live out of state of my favorite sports team anyways
That was sick regardless
That sick was indeed sick
Hell yeaaa
I hate to say it with his talent, but becoming a stretch big and veering from physicality could be the thing that can take him to a championship if it can keep him healthy.
If hes doing that just put a wing on him lol
He’ll just shoot over them. I don’t think ive ever seen anyone block his jumper unless it maybe happened from behind.
Horford definitely has….
Even most of those were in double coverage
Mitchell Robinson has blocked his jumper a couple times.
Embiid barely has any lift in his jump shots, even when he’s healthy. He’ll have a hand in his face if the defender is a 6 ft 9+ wing with mobility or one of the taller centers.
The problem with embiid is that he basically manages to somehow get freak injuries in addition to having string cheese knees at this point. The guy is massive and him being a cautious stretch big just takes away from both sides of the ball
Maybe, I don’t know, taking his health and conditioning seriously for the first time in his career should be the thing?
Knees weak
Arms are heavy, his vomit on his sweater already, moms spaghetti
He better lose himself
Ah yes the series where he had to force himself to blink
Dude is an amazing talent when healthy. The fact he can semi-reliably hit 3’s on top of amazing post work and defense is absurd.
Damn shame his legs are made of bubblegum and cheeto dust though. He is a borderline HoF talent as is, but I think he would’ve put Shaq to shame had his body held up better.
STOP LANDING ON ONE FOOT EVERYBODY
He should just stop jumping now.
Maybe a small hop at the release of the jumpshot or layup. A couple of inches.
God this series might have been my favorite ever, shame that core didn’t last longer than this one season
Summarizes his entire career
I’ve got knee issues, too, and I wonder if his femur smashed into his tibia there. That happens to me on occasion due to reduced cartilage in my left knee, and whenever it does it’s like a lightning bolt shot through me and I feel like I’m going to puke. Can’t imagine what that feels like when you’re as big as he is.
Also, this was the moment I knew something was up with his face. Him just laying there and only blinking one eye had me so freaked out.
those sketchers shoes are still like 190$+ to buy
He went for it the highlight then instantly regretted but at least he was fine afterwards.
Woah positive responses to an embiid post on this sub?! That’s rare, but appreciated
This was before it was confirmed he had Bells Palsy during this series and I remember watching live this and being so confused, like what’s wrong with his face?
So embarrassing
genuinely thought he ended his career with that dunk when i saw that. im guessing everyone did
Pretty much sums up embiids career to this point. Does things you don’t think is possible for a dude his size and then boom he’s down
the extra weught and cheeseburgers arent helping
Joel is definitely going to be the scapegoat if they fail to chip. Someone always takes the fall on a LeBron team.
[Highlight] The duality of r/nba
you would think athletes would learn after drose to not land on 1 leg and especially big athletes like embiid.
he could be the key if philly somehow wins the chip, if health
Thanks magic
Water is wet?
Key to what, the medicine cabinet?
“The team that scores the most points usually wins the game.”
Okay Booger.
I’m at the wrong airport!

Except for that one Houston Rockets game*
The call him Mr. Glass

It ain’t that deep
I mean yeah I agree that it’s not deep. I made a pretty simple statement
The Mitchell Robinson inbound alley oop over Joel Imbiid was a good revenge for this play.
Idiot kids using “duality” and not knowing what it means is getting old. Getting an injury isn’t a duality.
I hate this man so fucking much
[deleted]
its not traveling. People like Brunson and SGA do this all the time too, without the backboard dunk part ofc
you are allowed to lift your pivot foot (thats what people do on every single jumpshot), you are just not allowed to put it back down.
You can see he doesnt put it back down until after he releases the ball towards the backboard
His right foot is the pivot what are you on about.
How is it traveling? The feet shuffle doesn’t come until after he lobbed it
Watch on half speed and he shuffles his feet twice after the pivot (and almost during the pivot as well). I can see why it wasn’t called, but he is tap dancin a lil bit.
The very first play is a travel lmao. I love how the most simple rules about footwork are being broken now because “Ooooo highlight and my fav player did something so it’s not a travel you’re just a hater!”
Downvoted because mouth breathers don’t understand you can’t change pivot feet after gathering the ball with both hands xD
It’s not, no time out so the play goes on.
lol really? It’s an NBA game
in football maybe, but if its that deep take the foul if you’re the sixers, this is the play offs.
Glad we packed these bums up in 4 so I didn’t have to watch this guy more than 4 games…I mean 3 because ofc he missed one
Ya’ll won a chip, is it not time to relax a bit
You forget that some of us are miserable bastards that root for the Mets and Jets
That guy was pretty aggro tho lol
Have you been to NY?
I was there last night
I’m sorry to hear that
Usually remote but I got called in for a dumbass meeting where 8⁄10 team members were able to dial in through teams…
