Celtics owner Bill Chisholm on the Jaylen Brown trade: “I truly believe we have the best front office in the NBA… But man, as a fan, that was tough. I really needed to be convinced to take the fan passion out of it, because I’m a super fan.”
This is a completely reasonable statement and you guys are being emotional.
Yeah these dudes need a therapist this shit is just plain embarrassing
I’m sure no one felt happy making the move. This is a business and has been for long before this trade. It sucks hard but it’s a move that was necessary
Nobody did. Just like nobody was happy trading away Pierce and Garnett. But where did it get us?
Looks like the same situation soon, when Jayson gets traded for a shitload of picks next year.
Trading away an in-his-prime Hall of Famer for peanuts was not necessary, lol. What a horrible trade.
I think JT is happy with this move. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for him to listen to MVP chants for JB last year. This year he’s looking forward to being the one with the higher usage and bringing his personal stats up to compete for MVP.
JT wants to win. Brad Stevens also wants to win. The extent they are happy about it is the extent they believe this will help get them to another championship.
If we stayed the course with JT + JB + DW and no other pieces added, we’d still be a top ~5 team in the NBA for the next few years, but wouldn’t have cap space to make other big moves or really be able to compete against the very best teams (like Spurs when Wemby wasn’t gassed; or Thunder and the refs).
With the trade of JB for PG + valuable picks, I think we have that flexibility to make a splashy move next season if the opportunity presents itself akin to the moves where we added KG/Ray Allen in 2007 or swapped Smart/Timelord/Brogdon for Jrue + Porzinigis.
EDIT: Remember before last season when we had an injured superstar, $230M in luxury tax on the books (so even if they were willing to pay likely would have a season with no JT and no Horford and KP being unable to stay healthy for the playoffs?)
Celtics expect a lot of teams with very good players to be repeat luxury tax offenders soon and want to be in a perfect position to swoop in for the next team that finds themselves with a huge tax bill (or other penalties like losing draft picks for being over 2nd apron too many years in a row) and have the right assets they want (e.g., expiring contracts, valuable tradeable picks, etc.)
They don’t want to do what the Bucks did by trading all their assets to just marginally improve (or get worse) and then get stuck with no cap space, and still miss the playoffs (only to have to trade your unhappy superstar in the end for way less than he was worth if you traded a little bit earlier).
I acted like a fuckjng baby when this trade happened.. the people still acting this way need therapy
Did the trade somehow go from one of the worst trades of all time to acceptable recently? lol
No I’m just an adult. If you’re letting a trade affect your emotions weeks later it’s time to look at yourself in the mirror.
Threads like this just show how many children make up this sub. It’s definitely the youngest of the Boston sports subreddits.
“Fans still mad about one of the worst trades in NBA history! What children!”
You are making my point, thanks
There were people that said our 2024 championship sucked because we gave up Smart for it, sometimes emotions are too strong in sports.
Sometimes you gotta make business decisions, even if it goes against what your personal feelings are saying.
And against common sense apparently lol
It helps to remember Reddit is swarming with teenagers. Whenever I see some insanely emotional take that makes literally no sense I remind myself that when I was 14 and a player I liked got traded I reacted similarly.
That’s because we don’t believe him. He’s a venture capitalist. All they do is lie and destroy
Gamer energy tbh
I do feel bad for Bill. Having to trade Jaylen and having to talk to the imbecile that is Greg Hill in the same summer must be terrible.
Don’t feel bad for him at the end of the day he’s a billionaire so he’s kinda fucked up person just to hoard that much wealth to himself.
Buddy, just because a man has a lot of money doesn’t make you entitled to that money.
Sure it does. Nobody legitimately makes a billion. A just country would tax billionaires at a higher rate so the lower class isn’t trying to choose between food and rent
Yep. Most of the time billionaires pay less taxes than you or I because all of their wealth is in stocks and they just borrow off those assets.
Do you know this to be true, or have you just heard this talking point before?
https://www.propublica.org/article/billionaires-tax-avoidance-techniques-irs-files
This is a largely sensationalized headline. Real data don’t support this strategy.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0047272725002178
No offense man, but how good is your life that you spend so much time online fighting for Billionaires to not be taxed more?
How do you read this as not wanting billionaires to be taxed more? I’m just pointing out that this is a commonly repeated bit of misinformation that does not reflect reality.
hey bud, are you a size queen for boots to lick or will any size do?
gawk gawk gawk gawk gawk gawk gawk gawk gawk
The National Debt is $40 trillion.
Clinton balanced the budget and got no credit for doing so.
The Republicans claim to be fiscal conservatives and constantly talked about the need to balance budgets but never did.
GWB passed huge tax cuts and passed deregulation that dramatically increased the wealth gap, lead to crashing the economy and a bailout (socialism for the wealthy). Trump passed huge tax cuts. Creating huge deficits and exploding the National Debt. The money didn’t pay in taxes inflated asset values. Trump claimed to be brilliant for increasing stock prices which was really just the financial engineering of loading 99% of the population with debt and 1% with unrealized asset gains. CEO pay, stock buybacks and a 401-K system that fed average American retirement accounts into stocks increasing their price.
If this was so great for the masses why does the wealth gap keep exploding?
They don’t earn it. They engineer it on the backs of the 99%.
Why does Greg Hill look like he always smells like onions?
His face got stuck like that during his morning zoo crew show on WAAF.
Why the video? Audio would have been more than enough of that toad
dude was told my sixth street to cut the books regardless of winning and he relayed the message to brad. this shit is fake bro
Would you rather have a dipshit owner who meddles with GM decisions because they confuse being rich with being a genius in all fields? Brad made the decision and he signed off because he trusts Brad to be a good GM. I’m a huge JB fan and the trade sucked, but Brad has earned some trust and I’m happy the team owner agrees.
How do we know we don’t have a dipshit owner who meddles in GM decisions? He could just be lying?
Not in the same realm at all, but Robert Kraft stopped Belichick from trading Brady to the 49ers. Good dipshit owner meddling right there.
Idk why you’re being downvoted lol bill wanted to trade Brady in 2017 but Kraft intervened so they traded Jimmy G instead. Will be eternally grateful to bill for 2 amazing decades but that obviously would’ve been a mistake that ownership prevented
An exception doesn’t determine the rule though. Generally speaking you absolutely want your experts to be making the decisions and not some guy who has a lot of money
Agreed so I’m glad Chisholm seems to be letting Brad make calls like the Jaylen trade
I didn’t really mean it as a comparison, hence the preface, just my best example of a meddling owner’s meddling actually preventing the worst. That’s two more Super Bowls won by meddling.
For sure. It usually goes the other way where owners getting too involved is a bad thing, obviously not in that case though
He’s currently in Philly, maybe look there
Came here looking for this.
I mean as level headed ppl have been saying all summer (me) - this is not a money move. Brad lost his marbles
Agreed
It’s this asshole
I think his response is incredibly reasonable and honestly validates what any logical fan can see looking at the landscape of the CBA and the repeater tax we were trying to avoid.
It’s understandable to be skeptical of Bill’s ownership because of the changes we’ve made since he’s been here. But those changes would’ve happened either way with our payroll
Unfortunately we have to wait until after the repeater resets to really figure out whether waiting was in service of paying more down the line or just save some cash before we can make the judgement . Next offseason should tell us everything we need to know about ownership
Except they saved no cash lol. They just took on a negative asset getting paid as much as a Hall of Famer in his prime coming off an MVP/Calibur season
Holy green koolaid guys.
It was his decision.
Get a grip.
Dude it makes no sense. It’s 2 years of Paul George at \(60m compared to 3 years of Jaylen for \)60m. This was not 100% financial. Or even 50% financial.
Plus 2 more extension years at 70
So don’t extend him? lol. Or make a better trade later. Anything but make one of the stupidest trades in NBA history.
Your ignoring the 2 year $150 million extension JB was going to become available for, and the fact that the front office clearly did not have lot of confidence in actually winning a title by running back Tatum + Brown through the rest of their primes.
So they rather take the unknown of Tatums health + whatever moves they can make vs a proven duo who’s won the conference twice and won a chip?
Every single champion trades someone important away, you can go back for decades and see this.
That “proven duo” had one of the most stacked and complete 8 man rotations of all time and was an all time dominant regular and post season team the year they won it. Building a roster anywhere near as talented is absolutely impossible with the two of them making 70+% of the cap, and the league is rapidly changing.
Creating a roster that can actually truly compete with the elite contender would have been unfeasible. You don’t have enough mid sized contracts to use as trade pieces, you can’t resign your young developing talent, and operating so close to the aprons by default severely limits your options when making trades.
2022 exists
Tatum and Brown accounted for less than 50% of the salary cap in 2022 as well.
When you say “proven” you should really say “a duo that only proved they could win a championship with a stacked team around them that they immediately had to blow up for the cap and will NEVER be able to build again with Jaylen’s current cost and future cost and that it will be two years of the J’s on the same team that couldn’t get past the Sixers until Tatum walks for nothing because we aren’t paying him the extension he will demand”.
We’ll absolutely pay Tatums extension (barring some sort of decline after his injury, which I don’t think will happen). JB was just a different story
You’re also forgetting that Brad mentioned Jaylen’s usage.
He’s a dude who thinks of himself as an elite player who deserves to have the ball a lot.
Most advanced metrics and GMs view him as a mid tier starter. I don’t think we really want him to be dribbling the air out of the ball every possession.
Brad has been trying to move him for half a decade, and at this point I think he’s just accepted that Jaylen is just a salarydump.
Who else was gonna have the ball a lot? Pritchard, and White both were ass in the playoffs and were just ok in the regular season. They had all the opportunity to step up in the playoffs when the Celtics were up 3-1. You can’t analytic your way to a chip at some point you need someone like Jaylen (with Dawg + Skill). We’ll see if that’s Tatum but I suspect left to his own devices he may underwhelm
https://preview.redd.it/jxrhhv75ijkh1.jpeg?width=1206&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3fde04d80e2c9cdbf46ea8eb22a9d0c2a3b727c
I mean yeah maybe.
>they had the opportunity to step up 3-1
They really didn’t, because Jaylen went out of his way to throw games 5 and 6 in a (failed) attempt to prove that he was a 1 (he’s barely a 2).
>you need dawg+skill to win a ring
Excited to see the excuses when the sixers crash and burn.
Jaylen is not a very skilled player btw idk where this comes from.
Pritchard was a top 10 isolation scorer in the league this year, and his numbers without JB on the floor are leaps and bounds better. Our offense and our defense quite literally were better with JB off the floor, and now we have a better offensive engine at the center.
That doesn’t mean we’d have been as good without JB last year, but Tatum should absolutely be able to more than fill the role JB had last year. He’s simply better at being a number 1 option and offensive hub.
He’s going to feed Brad to the wolves when PG’s expiring gets us nothing
Ra mozzarella hot seats
I don’t believe a single word Chisholm says. He is not a regular dude. And he did not become a multi-billionaire being truthful to everyone all of the time. He is only saying things to seem more likable.
Pwesident Bwad would never ever do dis!!!!!
Oh brother. “Bro is a billionaire so he must always be lying at every turn”.
Yeah that’s actually exactly right, there is no reason to trust or support these societal leeches.
It’s just a hyper emotional and illogical statement. It’s irrational.
Get your money up, not your funny up
He’s strangling the franchise. Brad’s main job last season was getting us under both aprons. There was no real goal for the squad. Just get Tatum back and see how it looks
What a dumb take
You are clearly not paying attention. We didn’t get Vucevic last season to improve it was to cut salary
Both dudes were free agents heading into this offseason lol so essentially we traded for Vuc cause we needed a another big for the playoffs
Okay so you missed a bit where the trade brought us under the first apron. That was the whole point. You clearly don’t understand how the cap, the aprons work or luxury tax works. We saved $325 million in total last season getting under the repeater tax with all of our moves. I recommend reading about it, was amazing by Brad. That’s why he won the GM award
He only won the gm award because the team overachieved he brought in guys not like minnot Garza and Simons because they were cheap, meanwhile the gm of the team that won the championship didn’t get rewarded.
All I’m reading in your comments is “I don’t know how the cap works at all” and Simons wasn’t cheap enough because if we didn’t dump him we would have still been over the first apron and would owe a ton of money. He saved us 325 million in one season. How do you not get that? We salary dumped the entire season from over the 2nd apron to out of the tax. It’s nearly impossible to pull off
Man I don’t wanna hear that shit
I have a bridge to sell you
How can anybody believe this guy?
Green teamers, wake up, he wants money, he wants profit, he does not care if we’re winning or competing for a championship.
Threw Steven’s right under the bus. What a pathetic coward. You mandated to trade away an all-NBA player in order to save money 2 years from now, atleast fucking own it.
New ownership has now gotten rid of Holiday, Horford, Porzingis, Kornet and Brown.
Hopefully we will try to put a contender together before Tatum’s prime ends. We will see if they’re trying to get under tax and bounce back up to contender status or if they’re just cheap.
FACTS
>not a basketball move because some media sub humans voted him for an award that he didn’t deserve
Keep in mind that Jaylen brown has played at the level of a championship caliber second option in a single postseason in his career, and is one of the only “stars” ever (it’s him and demar derozan) who’s team plays better with him on the bench.
I genuinely question what some of yall were paying attention to in that press conference
I took very little from that useless press conference. I’m aware Chisom said that was not the case, but have you considered he was lying?
Have you considered that Chisholm was scared shitless the entire time while Brad was absolutely completely cool, calm, and collected? Brads was absolutely not the demeanor of a GM who was forced to make a move that he disagreed with. You can not like the move but it was very clearly a decision made by Brad and the FO and not Bill.
I would think that could mean the opposite. Brad was calm and cool because his attitude was “not my decision, not my problem”, whereas Chisholm was scared shitless because he just realized that his budget based decisions have consequences and that continuing to act this way will make him the most hated man in this city.
That goes against how this all works though, doesn’t it? If Brad Stevens is being made the fall guy by the organization, then there is an implication that he’s on the chopping block as ownership looks to make him the scapegoat. I find it hard to imagine Brad would be sitting there as calm and give the answers he did if he felt he was being setup to take the fall. He’s one of the smartest and most successful GMs in the league.
Your last sentence kind of proves my point. If they screw him over and set him up to take the fall, he’ll get a new job literally on the drive home. Meanwhile they will still be saddled with a mediocre basketball operation and a fan base that wants heads on fence posts. They need Brad alot more, because very few other GMs will be able to properly lipstick this shit covered pig.
I think we just fundamentally disagree on where this team was at with JB and where they can go from here. We are positioned so, so, so much more favorably to actually build a dominant contending roster in Tatums prime now.
If we kept JB we almost certainly would have had to sign his extension. He’s a representative of the NBAPA, asking for his full extension is practically in the job description. With 70+% of our cap tied up in JB and JT through 2030 at least, we would have been entirely unable to make any real moves. We’d be operating so close to the aprons that we’d be unable to re-sign any of your developing talent to larger contracts, and any meaningful trades launch us there and begin to trigger the trade restrictions.
Suddenly, you can no longer aggregate player salaries in trades. That means that all these tiny contracts we have are effectively meaningless - we can’t group them together to get anyone, and we need to match salaries to trade. With our 6 tradable 1st round picks and PGs contract becoming an expiring next year right when other teams start to feel the apron pain, we are set up better than arguably almost any team in the league to make some big moves in the next 2 years.
We do have a fundamental disagreement on the matter. You seem to be under the impression there were real basketball reasons to make this trade, which I think is childishly naive. This was done to boost future profit margins, this new ownership group does not care about winning. You talk about future flexibility to build a winning, but they just spent the last year and a half dismantling their championship roster. They could’ve just kept the 2 J’s, but that would’ve cost money.
I think you have zero understanding of how punishing the aprons are. You do understand that there is far more than just luxury tax implications, right?
people downvoting you are dumb. you’re 100% right. sixth street told bill to make the call.

Fuck Bill Chism
Im confused, is he a fan?

Fan of the circus
Think people have to understand is this is not a unilateral decision he only owns 15% of the team. Honestly it feels like it’s throwing the front office under the bus here because I guarantee you the pressure to make this deal was largely coming from the 85% private equity group.
This was not a basketball trade. This was about trading a guy that was extension eligible for a guy that’s not. Doesn’t save you a nickel in the next two years it doesn’t get you under any aprons it doesn’t save you any repeater tax money. But it doesn’t replace a guy that will want an extension with a guy that will be retired in. It takes 70 million off the books is 2028 although that’s not cap money that’s just money in the owner’s pockets.n
It’s an indefensible trade for my basketball perspective. And when this whole thing falls apart this is going to be remembered as a major problem.
Chism owns a very small slice of team in fact it’s the exact minimum you’re allowed to own and still represent the team as the owner.
And they had to rework the ownership structure at the last minute because it wasn’t going to pass master cuz he didn’t have enough.
This is exactly it. We got the opposite of Steve Ballmer to be the Celtics “owner” – a billionaire with no spending power, beholden to his co-investors.
People may disagree with me vehemently about this but I’d rather have Ballmer as a team owner. At least you know he’ll spend in whatever way he can for his team, whether it’s buying them their own arena (and re-developing part of downtown LA in the process) or being creative with the rules lol.
Steve Ballmer has so much money, he’s got more personal assets than the Assets Under Management of many Private Equity groups. In the new NBA, that’s going to become more and more of a rarity. It’s crazy that a single human could have so much wealth but if you’re looking at it from the narrow lens of a sports fan that wants an owner obsessed with his sports team, that’s the best kind of owner to have: deep pockets and willing to spend big beyond just players’ salaries.
Also, let’s be real: Chisholm will lay this on the FO’s feet if things go south. I am already dreading the possibility of Brad leaving if the Celtics don’t get anything for PG and Philly does well.
Do any of you see Ballmer saying anything about Lawrence Frank and the Clippers’ FO? Hell no. He’s riding with his fellow co-conspirators until Adam Silver grows a pair.
However, whatever, I will miss watching JB play for the Celts.
You’re the owner. In the end you have the final say. Brad reports to you, now yiu’re trying to save face. I strictly remember Brad saying at the end of an interview in regards to decision making that he will have to discuss with ownership regarding roster plans moving forward. So if Brad was told to cut salary he would have to. Now you’re trying to save face in the court of public opinion…
The way this guy continues to basically throw Brad under the bus for this kill’s me. If true, just a complete lack of leadership and, if not and more of a directive from on high, f him even more
https://preview.redd.it/874g944ajdkh1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7cbd2d6a27a1f7e5c79b4470885e7c3eb0688a12
🤡🤡🤡
“Everybody always told me I’m a big fan. In fact I don’t think there’s ever been a biggest fan than me. It was so so hard to let go of Jaden… What? Yeah he lets me call him like that, because I’m his biggest fan”
He should teach classes on how to alienate the fan base and become unlikable within months of taking ownership. This is elite level bullshit
This feels performative
Sure Pam
Only thing I have to say about that is only time will sell myself personally. The Celtics of killed battle and they’re really gonna have to prove themselves. To every New York and Philadelphia 76ers will be in our backyard.
I can’t wait until the season starts no more JB talk please
If you think this guy was actually a real Celtics fan, I have some swamp to sell you in Florida.
Love this guy
Bill did what he was told to do. He’s just a mouth piece, 6 street owns the Celtics not Bill Chisholm.
It feels like Brad is really putting his own reputation and judgment on the line with this trade. If the team can hold it together and somehow put together another 2021–22-type season, then he’ll probably be fine. But if things go off the rails, I don’t think Chisholm is gonna protect him the way Wyc did. If the team completely falls apart, Brad could be gone pretty quickly.
What excuse for taking fan passion out of it? Isn’t this what fuels the game?
All on Brad lmao. Team is going to be ass this year you guys are just fucking coping hard
Always a litttle bit of a red flag when an owner calls themselves a fan… Tom Werner vibes…
The owner is not a fan, he’s an owner.
I could be trippin, but I don’t recall wyc calling himself a fan, or Bob Kraft.
Suuuuure…
That’s precisely what a venture capitalist would say. Expect more cuts and penny pinching, Celtics fans. This thing will be bare bones in no time!
Gotta suck as much money out of the adoring and unaware fandom while you can.
Shut the fuck up. If you wanted to keep JB you could have paid him
cc bc b c bc c. f r c c bc bc c c bc c bc bc xx😳z x be ⬆️⬆️
This feels like good cop, bad cop to me
Bro you own the team, you can poster like you are against this all you want; but we know this trade needed your thumbs up before anything else
I get it. Realistically speaking, trading him was probably the best option because of future contract issues and the cap rules. It still fucking hurts, but I get it. Bill is right on.
The quote got cut off “I’m a super fan … of MONEY”
You guys were breaking this guy’s balls so bad like he was the cause.
This is a hilarious statement as he is the sole reason that JB was traded. How can this even be taken seriously, this guy owns the team and everything of this magnitude goes through him. Bill must think that us Celtics fans are a bunch of dumb asses if we are to believe he was not solely responsible for this trade in order to put JB’S future salary straight into his pocket. Just another example of private equity adding to the moral decay of society and taking away all the fun things that are the fabric of our soul in order to make billions of more money. Thank Bill Chisholm and go 76ers!!!!
Why don’t you come back when you have even a minor understanding of the current CBA and how the aprons and luxury tax work?
Enlighten Me
www.google.com
Pay no mind that Jaylen’s contract would have cost him over $100 million more than PG’s contract over the years… it just broke his fanboy’s heart to pocket that money.
Robert Kraft special right here.
“As a fan I had a really hard time when BB forced me to not pay players for those 25 years…. I really wanted to pay more and make less but Bill wouldn’t let me!”
I think people really underestimate the pure “need to make something happen” role Brown had in the finals. It’s not to say Tatum can’t do it, but for many of the clenched cheeks moments, Brown made things happen. The assumption that Tatum can do it easily…I mean he’s a hell of a player so we probably see it this year, but it’s a role that you can’t just pencil in as being filled.
Acting like Tatum wasn’t the engine behind our 2024 team is hilarious. Not trying to take anything away from JB, but we’ll be fine with our franchise player.
JB made things happen as often as he dribbled into traffic and immediately turned the ball over. JT will be ok.
Completely ignores the fact that Tatum v Brown was a coin flip of a finals mvp
I’d rather keep both coins
Blame the CBA
that’s a copout
PG isn’t any cheaper
His contract is up sooner he either plays well and we keep him or send him out when he is an expiring and reset
It’s one year shorter. There were other courses of action we could’ve taken.
If Jaylen brown did it then pencil it in. Better playmaker passer and scorer…
Who gives a shit what a billionaires opinion is
No, Bill, you did this to save money. You didn’t need to be convinced of anything.
You made the trade. That’s bad enough, but what’s done is done. But do not lie to the fans about it. Do not insult this fanbase’s intelligence.
He’s a fan so they make him a voice but he’s still part of the PE that is going to sell the team in a few years for a few billion more.
[deleted]
How is he fake because he’s trusting brad Steven’s to do his job ?
Guy must be a bot or a troll, his comment makes no sense
So you didnt listen to him talk at all, got it
What are you talking about lol. He didnt want to do it as a fan, but as a team owner he trusted his front office that this was the right move. Really not that hard to follow
Lol what?
I’m not a Chisholm hater and I believe Brad is the smartest person in the room at all times.
That being said, shut up dude.
Say fan more.
People here are soo gullible. Do his actions match his words? He’s done nothing but cut salary since he’s been owner. Downvote this all you want but that is a FACT. I don’t buy his pr trained reply to a question that was probably shared with him prior to the interview.
Believe it or not there is nuance involved when managing a professional basketball team.
I’m sure there is. Doesn’t change the fact that he’s cut salary every year since he’s become owner. I’d respect him more if he said that cutting salary was merely needed for a reset but he hasn’t said that. He has actually gone out of his way to say that all of these moves are not done for salary cap or luxury tax purposes, which is complete horseshit
The dude was handed a half-billion dollar payroll for a roster that was already well into the second apron. Every team in the league is terrified of the second apron and the Celtics FO needed to prioritize getting out of it asap, which they did in an impressive manner.
I’m sure saving money was an important factor, but there are actual team-building consequences for spending too much in the current CBA that matter way more than excessive luxury taxes.
These decisions are not intended to pay off until 2027 when the team has completely reset luxury tax and apron penalties and PG has either declined his team-option for a more team-friendly deal or we have a big expiring contract to trade away for a new player/assets/cap space.
Next year is the real test. Resetting the repeater penalty by staying under this season is a perfectly sensible choice from a purely competitive point of view. But we need to go all in next off-season. If we then continue to keep salary low, guy’s a cheapskate and a private equity leech. But he still has the chance to back up his “I’m a fan” talk until that happens.
“To take the fan passion out of it, because I am a superfan”
I am a superfan is an interesting thing to volunteer after trading your longest tenured Celtic. What are you trying to hide BILL?
He’s just relating to how much we love Jaylen and saying as a super fan obviously you don’t trade him but he had to put on his big boy pants instead of his superfan pants
It was a necessary trade
Ignoring the trade and focusing on his language here
I’m glad bill came around and trusted Brad’s decision to give away brown for practically nothing.
That is what Jaylen brown’s value is.
I do not understand why this is complicated. Brad went around and asked a bunch of teams what they were willing to trade for Jaylen. These teams said “nothing”.
Unless you have evidence that Stevens took a shitty offer for funsies, you need to get over this. You have been complaining for like a month now.
Some of these fan here overrated the hell out of JB. There was even some who was delusional enough to say Brown > Giannis.
I get why national media elevated him (dislike of Tatum from LA/NYC guys).
Have 0 clue why Jaylen brown gets love from Celtics fans.
He has like a single postseason where he played at the level of a contending second option despite the rest of his team brutalizing their competition (legit 4 straight years of contention and a grand total of 2 series that we didn’t have the best player on the court).
Yeah I’ve gotta admit I’ve been overrating brown for years. Brad and the Celtics giving him away for nothing was a huge wake up call for me
It’s kind of ironic you’re making this same statement to LarBrd33 who has been one of Jaylen’s biggest doubters lol.
No no. I’ve been massively overrating Brown for years. I wasn’t even willing to trade him for Durant or giannis. This has been a real wake up call for me seeing how little the Celtics and the rest of the league value him.
Larbird is significantly higher on Jaylen than me. He considers him to be a flawed t20 guy.
I view Jaylen like a high maintenance jerami Grant who gets mad when he can’t shot chuck.
I don’t really know what elite skills he brings to the table outside of shooting a lot
hater!
That is the reason why his value ended up being lower than many thought it would be, because brad and the front office were actively trying to get rid of jb ,so teams were like, well if you trying to get rid of him we”ll throw you a first or 2 and no young players….
That’s not how auctions work
Then you hold him until a market develops. You don’t dump him off for pennies.
There’s no market for a top 25 player seeking top 5 player money. That’s the new CBA.
We’ve been trying to move him since the 2022 summer.
Teams just don’t want him.
Ahh yes, holding onto a player for too long has never come back to bite someone.
The market was never going to develop. Jaylen Brown would be making upwards of \(60M and seeking \)70M extension for at least 2 more years. Brown would be getting into age 31, 32 seasons while the Celtics hold on to a guy that doesn’t want to give the reins back up to Tatum.
This year, the overpaid players that the Celtics got close to deals for were Jimmy Butler (Golden State said no because they didn’t want to give up 4 picks) and Paul George (who they traded for). They tried for Giannis and Bucks said no.
Next season, players making over $50M that aren’t that caliber of player or worth that money is basically limited to Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Paul George, Evan Mobley, Jamal Murray, De’Aaron Fox, Bam Adebayo, Pascal Siakam, Jaren Jackson Jr and Trae Young. Which of these players would you trade Brown for in a swap?
AD is always hurt, Phoenix isn’t trading their franchise player to do a lateral move and stay in the play-in, Mobley/Murray/Fox/JJJ/Trae are downgrades from Brown with same length or longer contracts and make no sense for Boston.
So unless you really want Siakam, or think Miami will give us Bam, your options next year would be Paul George, or wait it out and pay Brown the contract.
Nothing was going to develop. It was move Brown now and try to flip Paul George at the deadline or next summer when his contract is expiring, or be left paying Jaylen Brown and watching the Celtics unable to trade for anyone making significant money or any real way to get better as Tatum and Brown go into year 13 together at ages 32 and 33 with 4 years of playoff exits and the window is closed.
Jaylen Brown was always going to be traded for a downgrade, we just opted for a deal that included a couple of picks instead of 2 role players.
It’s been 3 years of waiting for a market to develop. The market is what he went for, and if he went outside the division it would’ve been even less
So you think he was worth more and Brad was just like “nah…I’m gonna take nothing AND send him in division.”
No other team thinks he’s worth more.
I think Brad choked. He should have traded him a year ago or waited.
Rich coming from you lol
