[HIGHLIGHT] 3 years ago Jayson Tatum sets game 7 scoring record by putting up 51 to eliminate the Philadelphia 76ers
The game we thought would get Doc fired for good….only for the Bucks to re-hire him a couple years later.
Was it even a year later? Lol
certainly less time than the sixers hired him after he got fired from the clippers. embarrassing shit from this franchise as always. glenn got in a room with the owners and wooed them with his intimate knowledge of basketball while watching the team to which he just blew a 3-1 lead play the lakers. who could resist?
In fairness he still had a good rep post-firing.
Man I’m betting Doc is still not done
wait why did they even rehire him after that game7
Blackmail lol
I watched this from a hospital bed, It wasn’t for anything terminal but on that day I needed a plug to pull
Not the Ben Simmons pass or that shot?
He totally broke them late in game 6 when it looked like they’d close out the series and he took over. There’s like no team defense being played and everyone looked so checked out that game 7 for Philly
I stand by the fact that that + game 7 should be considered a legendary playoff moment, yet it will be completely forgotten because of the Heat series (which has it’s own what-ifs)
Edit: also shoutout to Marcus Smart for having one of his best offensive game as a Celtic and keeping us alive long enough for Tatum to wake up
I’m bad with time. Was that the bam block year?
No, that was 2020 in the Bubble.
This was the 0-3 almost comeback, Derrick White put-back in game 6, Tatum hurting his ankle on the first play of game 7, and Jaylen dribbling it off his foot all game to come up short in 2023. Otherwise known as the Caleb Martin series
caleb just deciding to be an all-nba player vs boston was so glorious
also brown slander was nasty that year so many shanghai shark jersey edits
That Heat series is one of the most insane “small sample size” anomalies I’ve seen between the Heat being unable to miss from 3 and the Cs being ice cold. The only thing that makes that misery bearable is knowing we’d have gotten killed in the Finals by those Nuggets and we won the next year but holy shit that series was brutal.
heat had also went to 7 wit boston the year before with home court advantage, so they definitely wanted revenge
Caleb Martin : Career 36% shot 49%
Gabe Vincent : Career 34% shot 51%
Duncan Robinson coming off his worst non-rookie season, battling injuries, getting benched because he can’t play defense for shit and starting 1 of 42 games played after shooting 33% in the season shot 48% and damn foot was moving
That was a tough loss to swallow as a Celtics fan.
As it should be. Tatum stunk in that game 7
He badly sprained his ankle on literally the first possession of the game.
Badly? So bad he didn’t leave the game for 7 + more minutes and he played close to 42 minutes?
Badly. It’s insane you’re trying to knock him for toughing it out.
Even with a hurt Tatum, the gameplan is always to focus him. He stayed out there because he commands respect. And the good old problem of the Celtics that pops up every time reared its ugly head. Jaylen being the main man in a pressure situation 8 turnovers, 5 fouls, 8⁄23 on the field. If him and Jayson didn’t come up at the same time, he would’ve had the same reputation as Maxey before last season, which is basically a monster of a number 2 but seriously needs a number 1 to hog defensive focus.
You could see him limping and wincing the entire time he tried to stay in that game, idk what more you’d expect. Shit on him for the 2022 Finals if that’s what you wanna do.
it’s honestly nuts they had him play that much, i still think they lose cuz they ended up getting blown out and heat would’ve won game 6 anyway without the greatest shot in boston history but tatum was clearly not okay at all. everyone knew it when they saw it
tobias hairass and d’anthony meltdown broke the rim first
I knew we were done for when it was like 85-85 in the fourth and Tatum was still 0/15
Yeah Celtics were handing the Sixers the series in game 6 and they couldn’t get over the line. Tatum had like 4 points going into the fourth and the game was still close, then Tatum woke up and it was over
Steph had just set the record at 50 the previous game 7 vs the kings. SMH.
Edit: Stephen Curry scored a historic 50 points on April 30, 2023, leading the Golden State Warriors to a 120-100 win over the Sacramento Kings in Game 7 of the Western Conference First Round. His performance set the all-time NBA record for most points in a Game 7, though it was broken two weeks later by Jayson Tatum
Drives me nuts that I’ve had several Boston-area natives in real life tell me that they don’t think Jayson Tatum has the proverbial “it” factor, even after games like these and a championship.
Mind you this is the guy that dunked on Lebron in a Game 7 as a rookie
And then maybe got the ball passed to him 3 times afterwards for the rest of the game.
We would’ve gotten smoked by the Warriors in the Finals that year but our defense would’ve put up more of a fight
The rockets-Celtics finals could’ve been fun. The final we deserved but the devil works hard
People thinking he doesn’t have “it” is why they refused to give him finals MVP.
Maybe they saw how he did in a home game 7 in the next series.
Gary Washburn? Is that you?
Such a baller man. I just hope he can stay healthy and don’t have the lingering fear of reaggravating his injury affect his game too much
I remember having a bath and watching this live and just laying there in the tub thinking “this fucking guy hasn’t missed a single shot.”
MVP embid got outplayed by harden this series. Just sad. This was embids shit to prove he aint a playoff bum
Harden had two great games one decent game and four stinkers. Embiid was playing on a freshly sprained LCL but also played poorly. Would not say by any stretch that Harden outplayed him outside of those two games, one of which Embiid didn’t even play.
Yep and those 2 games solo carried 2 of the sixers win.
That is more than embid did that entire series.

Since when is the 2nd rd the biggest possible stage?
since this bot decided
Yyyyeah 100% a bot lol look at the post history
No answer by Philly that game. And he was playing good defense too
Tatum and Brown is what Kawhi and PG were supposed to be. With that in mind do you take Tatum and PG or Kawhi and Brown in a 7 game series?
Whichever one has Tatum
But I’d rather it be Tatum & Brown… smh
Dude has some insane close out games. Honestly underappreciated
They got swept this time though
Cool. Next show me Mikal Bridges pulling the ball out of his hands in a 1 point comeback win in the playoffs
Brown doesn’t have a single playoff game half is good as this. Meanwhile Tatum has like 5 more on this level 😭😭😭. Sixers fans gonna be in for a rude awakening.
Dude you got 36 year old Paul George
they’re going to love watching PG shoot stepback middies bro
JB midrange attempts per game: 5.2
PG midrange attempts per game: 3.3
now bring USG% into context.
literal ratio’d
If there’s additional context you’d like to highlight, go for it. Don’t expect me to do your legwork for you.
JB took not only a higher volume of midrange attempts, but also a higher number as a proportion of his total attempts. And, of course, there are all the possessions where he was trying to get to a middy but turned it over before he could get a shot off.
Brown had the 40 piece Game 2 vs Indiana (gotta keep lovin both Jays)
That guy is a Tatum stan, not a Celtics fan, it’s aggravating…
(gotta keep lovin both Jays)
Always.
Brother he’s off the team get off his dick. Fuck the Jays it’s Tatums team lol. Bro plays for the enemy treat him like the enemy.
Lmao enjoy 40 games of PG - when his shot doesn’t fall, he literally can’t get to the rim.
Why do we need PG getting to the rim, that’s what Tatum, Pritchard and a dozen Spain PnRs are for.
We’ll see how you feel in the middle of the season lol
When the Celtics are kicking ass and have a top 5 offense and defense? I’m sure I’ll feel great
Bro stop riding off a high from years ago. They’re not the same team - the east is way better they are not gonna be a top 5 offense and defense wtf Lolol?!!
The Celtics with just Brown were a top 5 offence and defence. Those same Celtics with Tatum + George should be fine.
Add in however many games we’re getting out of Mitch too.
the east is way better
Eh… Not really.
Some teams have improved, but not to the extent that people seem to think.
The Celtics won 56 games last season. I don’t like the Brown trade, but when you factor in Tatum playing the whole season, this roster should be better than last season’s roster.
That’s the benchmark that you’re setting. How many teams will break 56 wins?
For example, people are talking about Indiana being a top team with Haliburton coming back. Except they lost other players, and at their peak they only won 50 games once.
The Knicks are another fan favourite, but they only won 53 games, and then they lost depth pieces in the offseason.
The Pistons, Cavaliers and Magic didn’t really get better.
If you’re betting on Toronto, then you’re really betting on Kawhi getting out of the aspiration scandal unscathed and also being healthy for the season.
Miami are in a better position than people would realise, but they could be a tough playoff matchup. They’re not going to be a top-seeded team. Partly because of their depth, and partly because that’s just how Miami rolls.
The 76ers are similar. They’ll coast the regular season.
They were a top 5 offense and defense last year! And now they have a straight up better player running the offense, sub in PG for Hauser, and add Mitch to the rotation, and a year of growth for the young/inexperienced guys. Celtics are going to kick ass next year and anyone thinking otherwise is in for a rude awakening
Again - the east is way better and you lost in the first round anyway lmao
We’re also better than we were last year. We’ve essentially swapped JB for a healthy Tatum, Mitch, and PG. God I can’t wait for the utter cope on this subreddit when the Celtics bludgeon everyone on the offensive boards and possessionmaxx themselves to one of the best teams in the league.
Sounds like a great dream
Absurd. Brown has had many playoff games well over half as good, and Tatum has had many where he’s come up short.
To name just 1 example, the 2022 Finals elimination game in Boston comparison:
Brown 34 pts on 66% TS 7 reb 3 ast 5 TOs +/- +1, Tatum 13 pts on 36% TS 3 reb 7 ast 5 TOs +/- -2
I can’t believe Tatum with a broken shooting wrist shot so bad. Who would have thought a wrist on your shooting hand is important to shoot
Lol, the injury happened 2 months earlier and was so minor it healed on its own. Also he shot 46% from three on 7.3 attempts/gm in that series.
Everyone knows Giannis caused it to break the series before after throwing Tatum to the ground and he stayed down on it.
So you’re going to stick with the bad shooting claim when he shot 10% better from three than his reg season avg and 3.5% better than in the 1st rd?
Do you wanna talk about JB vs the Heat? Or JB in any game where Tatum carried lmao.
Amazing how bad the east was. That it took 7 games with HCA to beat a lousy 76ers team before falling to the Butler Heat (who were up 3-0 and blew out the Celtics In Boston in game 7 by 19). Tatum produced 14 pts on 47% TS in that game 7.
Tatum produced 14 pts on 47% TS in that game 7.
I also love posting slander with zero context
Weird reply. I posted facts, which can’t reasonably be termed “slander”.
Tatum played 41:36, what context are you claiming would mitigate his awful game 7?
You don’t think the ankle sprain 30 seconds into the game might have contributed?
That comes under the category of excuses. They didn’t even take him out until 4:11 to play in the 1st Q. Then he played all 12 minutes in the 2nd and 3rd Qs. Obviously it wasn’t that bad.
I was at that game and it happened right in front of me. It was that bad to the point that the Celtics willingly put the ball in Jaylen Brown’s hands as the lead playmaker.
You really think they wanted to do that? Get your head out of your ass.
Isn’t that the game Tatum went down with the injured ankle on like the first play of the game? Everybody made fun of Brown for a solid year after that game because of how bad he was
Sure, he was hurt so bad he played only 8 minutes in the 1st Q, and all 12 minutes in the 2nd and 3rd Qs.
Maybe go ahead and watch the game again. Or at least read up on it. Tatum did not want to come out of the game, but he absolutely should have. He could barely move
ultimate front runner waited for the sixers to shit the bed.
blew their load and lost to a garbage heat team.
needed a super team to beat the weakest WC champion in the past decade
this is the legacy of the celtics
I want you to understand that if the Sixers don’t win the chip this season they will be bigger laughingstocks than the Clippers were in the COVID year
If Embiid plays more than 7 playoff games I’m with you. If we have to trot Bona out there we’re not beating the Knicks
i would love for them to win the championship, but what is dead may never die.
what am i going to do, not come to this shitty subreddit to post one-liners and then ignore all the replies? oh no
always the top 1% commenters with literally the dumbest comments holy
You’re the Sixers ffs. You literally can’t talk
it’s clearly copium… kind of
celtics never won the finals in any year they beat the sixers. these are facts.
facts don’t care about your feelings
i’m not clicking this but i’m sure it’s hilarious
it’s Game 7 in 1981. Celtics vs. 76ers. Notably, the Celtics went on to win the chip
tf would you post that? who gaf about 1981? reagan hadn’t even ruined the country yet. good lord.
“celtics never won the finals in any year they beat the sixers. these are facts.”
oh sorry i forgot to provide context since my dad (boomer) hit puberty
celtics never won the finals in any year they beat the sixers.
Am I missing the joke here? Because this is really, really untrue lol.
no you’re missing implied context that this is in the process era. i mean shit this might be since the 80’s, but i’m not going to check.
Well it’s definitely not since the 80s, you guys blew a 3-1 lead.
Feels like a weird metric when they make the playoffs way more often than you do and go on deeper runs.
i don’t play for the sixers guy. and yes it’s definitely since the 80’s since the sixers lost to the celtics in the playoffs during a celtics championship run. the only years since would be ‘08 and ‘24. the sixers were busy blowing a 2-1 lead to the pistons in 2008 and lost to the Knicks in the RIGGED first round in ‘24, so you are mistaken.
now GOOD DAY.
The series where they didn’t eject Embiid for trying to break Mitch’s leg?
i said GOOD DAY
Game 7 elimination game, scoring the record for most points in a game 7 and you use the term front runner 😂😂😂
the front running started in game 6 after it was clear the sixers were pooping their pants
This is the dumbest take ever. You can’t be front running when you’re down in an elimination game in the 4th quarter and then go off in the final minutes. You then follow up scoring a record for a game 7 in a win or go home finale.
Holy shit you’re wack and need to learn what front running means lmao
100% wrong if you watch the context of that game. tatum was just chucking endlessly and finally got hot once it was evident that the sixers were going to also brick endlessly.
jayson “the settler” tatum is the biggest front runner in NBA history as are the celtics. they build their entire strategy around front running. this is why they needed the super team to actually break through. SAD!
It’s time to take your meds grandpa.
This is such a horrid take. Tatum somehow knew the Sixers are choking. Even when he’s down with minutes away from being eliminated he just knew the Sixers are gonna gift him the opportunity to hit contested threes in do or die moments therefore he’s a frontrunner 😂
he was chucking until he hit one or two and that was all it took. i’m glad you agree
this is just bad ragebait at this point
damn when did i lose it? i should have posted the original comment and bounced.
your initial comment was too obvious lmao
we do a little shitty trolling from time to time
Hang the banner
only if the banner can return the favor
Nooooooo don’t do it LeBrons in Philly you might make it to the Conference Finals.
At least in 82 you made it count. That’s a whole lot of shit talk for getting your ass whooped in the second round again.
brother you posted this to make yourself feel better about your team and to try to control the sixers vs celtics narrative due to this offseason.
did it work?
keep huffing that copium buddy, i hope it feels as good as winning a chip. aka the actual legacy of the celtics
congrats on the competent front office i guess?
I rubbed my eyes and can only see “super team champion” from your comment
sheeeeeesh trueeeeeee
