First time in history you can root for Jeanie Buss

I’ve given her a lot of crap, but I’m really starting to think the other 5 children are PoS’s and there’s a reason Dr. Buss wanted her in charge. 

There’s a few Jeaniestans running around tonight on Reddit parroting her lawyer’s statement as if it were incontestable fact that the Trust can’t sell ownership shares below 15% because that means, per NBA rules, she can’t be governor and that, in essence, would violate a provision of the trust to do would require her consent.

Putting aside what people would blindly trust that that is accurate…if it were true, it misses the larger point that Iger and Kushner are under no obligation to keep her a governor. If they kick her out of that role, there’s nothing then keeping the rest of the trust from liquidating to below that 15% threshold.

So the other members of the trust are free to make a deal with the new owners that she’ll be ousted in return for them selling the trust’s remaining equity.

And that is why her lawyer throw in the line about fiduciary responsibility, trying out a backup argument that selling financially hurts the trust. But that argument is going to be almost impossible to make stick in court given the lopsided vote.

The best hope she has now is to either convince Iger and Kushner that she’s irreplaceable as governor and battle it out in court on the 15% thing or to drag out the fiduciary argument for a few years so her older siblings start dropping dead and her voting power and equity share in an inevitable sale goes up.

This is the drama we all dream about this off season
