This only works if Flagg makes it clear at the end of his rookie contract that he won’t resign in Dallas and asks for a trade to the Celtics.

We have no way to make his rookie contract run out this year, so it won’t be with PG’s contract.

Wrong. Restricted free agency in 2029.

Every star player is locked in to their 4 year rookie contract and then they sign a max 5 year extension with an opt out in year 5 of their extension. He would only hit free agency in 2030 if he rejected a max contract extension to instead take a 1 year qualifying offer in 2029 which is unheard of for a max-level player. That’s 99.99% not happening. There’s literally no example in NBA history where a young star turned down a max extension to take a 1 year qualifying offer.

You’re not seeing Flagg hit unrestricted free agency until 2033 at the very earliest.

Anyone downvoting me doesn’t understand nba contracts. He’s not turning down 290 million guaranteed to take a 1 year 15 million dollar contract just because he wants to sign with Boston earlier.

Unless he signs an offer sheet with another team and leaves after 3 years. That’s how we got Gordon Hayward after 7 years in Utah. Plus it’s not like a star’s never forced a trade to a certain team before. AD played for New Orleans for 7 years before he forced his way to LA.

Last time Celtics fans were like this, they got the guy they wanted. Celtics fans were cheering for him while he was still in a Utah jersey, and then he left Utah for Boston in FA.

Plus it’s also worth looking closer at your list:

All of these moves:

Happened recently.
Happened because the player wanted to come to Boston.

We either signed them in FA or we got their express approval before making the trade.

Sure KG was a trade, but it was a trade that only went through because he wanted to come to Boston. Porzingis was a sign-and-trade and he specifically chose Boston. Jrue was given a list of options and chose Boston.

And there are other names you’ve forgotten. We signed Kemba for example. We were a top 3 destination for Durant and Chris Paul as another example. Giannis was recently requesting a trade to Boston.

You’re right Boston hasn’t been a big FA destination historically, but that has clearly changed and we’ve been one of the top destinations for like 10 years now.

Kyrie didn’t want to come to Boston he wanted his own team Cle was riding the high of IT and banking he’d be the same after the injury(I wish he was) and they got a 3&D player perfect for LeBron in Jae crowder at the time also viewed the nets pick as the main sweetener Kyrie wanted to go to NY,MIA,MIN but the closest trade to happen that didn’t was with PHX cause they valued the 4th pick and Bledsoe was a klutch client(also really good at the time)

It’s known that KG only decided on BOS after we got Ray Allen and Ray Allen didn’t request a trade to Boston or have them as a preferred destination it just happened

Porzingus and Jrue definitely yes though with expressing interest in Boston making it known to their respective teams before the trade
