I like what they are cooking. I read it as they know Dybantsa (and Sarr) is the future, so they are doing everything to set him up and upgrade their team in the limited ways they can without selling their assets.

Davis when he plays will be good, and give them a defensive anchor.Trae SHOULD give him a co-star that will set him up with easy shots. Demar and Khris are both good vets that I have never heard a bad locker room story about. They are building a professional environment to introduce their potential superstar into the league without overburdening him.

The talent upgrades are undeniable. I just wonder if they’re maybe locking themselves into a team that’s good, but not quite good enough when they don’t really need to. Like if they do end up extending AD at the number he’s most likely looking for, I feel like it restricts a lot of their flexibility in terms of team buildings an suddenly the timeline feels a bit off.

Obviously there still a lot of things that can happen between now and the end of the season, but if the wizards end up paying both Trae and AD max deals over the next 3-4 years, I’d be pretty disappointed with that outcome considering the potential avenues they had of building out their team before this.

Good but not good enough might be their ideal place to be for the next couple of years with the new lottery odds.

AD is 33 this year, and has a PO next year. I dont believe the Wizards want to give him a long extension. I really think they just got him cause he was cheap, could mentor Sarr, and help make the team not suck around their prospect. I dont think he’s in their long term plans.

On Trae, based on his trade market, Im curious what his next deal actually is. I dont think he gets a full max.

All their other core players are young and cheap. I am not super worried about overpaying for older stars (if they do) when what honestly matters the most is helping Dybantsa develop so he can be a superstar in like 6-8 years. Like there’s no way AD is even on the team by the time AJ’s title window realistically get serious

Trae was already given a full max by the wizards. We’ll see what happens with AD. I hope their plan is not to make a big financial commitment to him and Trae. Their core guys are young which is nice, but eventually they will need to be paid which is why i do have some concern over paying AD and Trae.

Yeah they do have a sort of window as of now. But it won’t last too long. Pretty soon guys like Coulibaly, Sarr, George, and Carrington will need to be paid. It becomes tough to pay some of those guys if they end up having 2 max salaries.

Wizards may be one of the only teams where Demar would start and is a good fit. The other teams who are interested in signing him, I think he would clog up the paint with the other guys they have. Demar fits the starting 3 spot for the wizards

DeRozan would still probably get a lot of opportunity if AD gets his usual injury and Dybantsa slides to the 4 (I assume he can play PF at 6’9”?)

Trading for and extending (potentially) both Trae and AD is going to cap them out before they can extend literally any of their young talent and all of this is while their young wings getting buried in the depth chart for “Khris Middleton” and “Demar Derozan”. Bad bad moves by the FO and they are going to regret a lot of this in the next two years
