The Knicks were dealt a big blow as their backup Center Mitchell Robinson left the Knicks to sign with the Celtics and he was the perfect backup center for KAT as he was a great offensive rebounder, a lob threat, and a great rim protector off the bench. Unfortunately, his shooting woes made him unplayable at times last playoffs as teams often did the Hack-a-Mitch strategy on him and he often missed his free throws. While Drummond doesn’t have the defensive abilities like Robinson, he is a great rebounder as well and a slightly better offensive player as he can make his free throws and space the floor too.

Given they didn’t want to go into the apron, Drummond was basically the best backup they could have gotten in my opinion.

The defense will be the biggest thing to take a hit, as well as the OREB to a degree, but otherwise I think Drummond will be decent

Drummond vs Robinson is truly a watch the box score vs watch the game difference. Robinson was incredible in his role and could change a game with his offensive rebounding.

Also, Mitch knew exactly what he could do and couldn’t do. If he has the ball, he is dunking, handing it off, or something went terribly wrong. It made him a very known quantity on offense for better or worse.

Drummond has gotten better with this with age but he has a very “designed for shaqtin a fool” type of game with ambitious passes and stuff like that. Plus he’s started to incorporate the corner three into his game.

As a Knicks fan, I’m bummed that Mitch is gone and the team is worse for it for sure but I can’t say I’m not morbidly/optimistically curious about what Drummond will do

Drummond is the worst good rebounder in NBA history and is a poor defender. He is solid at corner 3’s and can eat minutes at C vs. bad teams. The problem is he is unplayable vs. good teams. It’s hard to explain. You just kind of have to see it to believe it.

I watched back the highlights from our playoff series and just focused on Drummond and he really looked pretty invisible on possessions. Gets taken out of plays off picks easily, won’t rotate on close outs to stay near the rim, didn’t tag anyone off ball. All those little things that others have to compensate for.

In back up mins I guess it’s okay, but yeah not ideal.

He is worth it, tho. He’s can change a game. I wish we could’ve kept him. But there’s a reason he’s didn’t become the starter when we lost ihart. We went after proper center.
