[May 13, 1976] The final moments of the last ABA finals before the NBA/ABA merger. The New York Nets defeat the Denver Nuggets 112-106. Dr. J finished with 31/19/5/5/4. David Thompson had 42.
50 years ago goodness
David Thompson was a cold Mfer. MJ’s idol. A shame a combo of injuries and cocaine derailed him right when he should have been peaking.
He was arguably the best player from the ABA to be in the NBA in those first 1-2 years. Dr J was obviously amazing too but he was older and sadly spent most of his prime in the ABA.
Dr J was in his prime at this moment. He actually became a better player as he aged hence why he was able to easily transition and adapt into the NBA…Not as dynamic as his early yrs but still had it in him for sure…Just a unique talent in general…
Skywalker is a top 5 nickname all time
Pretty easy to rip off George Lucas tbf
I was gonna ask why the ticker at the bottom was talking about AI & Ray Allen, but I guess this clip must be fron like ESPN Classic
Yeah, trying to find an original live feed of an ABA game is rare to come by (they do exist on youtube but are few and far between).

Game 6 was incredible for three key reasons: 1) Denver was leading by double digits from the 2nd quarter well into the 4th quarter, but 2) NY outscored the Nuggets 34-14 in the final period to ultimately win 112-106, and 3) the three most historically significant players to play in this contest all had huge games. Dr. J had 31 points and 19 rebounds, David Thompson had 42 points and 7 rebounds as you mentioned, and Dan Issel had 30 points and 20 rebounds as well.
Only player that could stop David Thompson was David Thompson. Julius Erving was depressed going to the NBA/76ers for a couple years after this.
With that being said if the NBA is going to add 2 expansion teams then besides the Supersonics I want the Kentucky Colonels back so screw a Las Vegas team.
The blonde guy looks like Woody Harrelson at Will Ferrell’s Semi-Pro movie.
The ABA impact is still felt till this day.
wow. allen iverson named east player of the week.
“HEY! GET THAT BALL OFF HIM SEEH!!”
I find in wild that the NBA doesn’t really acknowledge the ABA’s history at all. They lowkey try to pretend like it never existed
I’m a Nets fan so I’m biased but do yall consider the aba title on par with the nba title from the same time or a step down?
Why didn’t they foul intentionally?

Basketball as the good lord intended
I know you might be confused as a Hornets fan, but if a team plays well enough, they play these games called playoff games after the regular season ends
