Ignorant fans will just say that Ray stabbed us in the back and joined our rivals, but they have always been wrong about it. Â The Heat werenât really our rivals. They were much better than us at that point. We had no business going as far as we did in 2012 and it created this illusion that we were actually good. We werenât. We nearly got knocked out by a 35 win Philly team in a prior round. Â The team was cooked. Within months everyone was gone. Ray was just first.Â
Boston had tried trading Ray every year since they acquired him and actually told him mid season he had been traded and to pack up his shit for Memphis. Then the deal fell apart and they had to call him and say ânever mindâ. Â Â
He had lost his starting role to 21 year old Avery Bradley and was being asked to come off the bench and share minutes with Courtney Lee and Jason Terry. Â The team was ass at that point. Ray could see it even if fans still thought they were contenders. Â With him gone, the team won 41 games and was beat down by Carmeloâs Knicks in Round 1. Within a year KG and Pierce were signing off on being traded to Brooklyn. Â
Ray saw a team that sucked, had no real role for him, and had been trying to get rid of him for years and decided âI can help this Miami team win a titleâ. Â So he left and proved it. Â While that shitty Boston team was toiling away to a 41 win record, Ray was hitting one of the biggest shots in NBA history in Miami. Â
The real problem is that fans refuse to accept that team was cooked and since they just so happened to play against LeBron multiple times, they saw Miami as their ârivalsâ. That wasnât a real rivalry. That team was sleepwalking against us in 2012, then put the foot on the gas and smoked us. Ray made the right call. Â
Some of your points are correct and can agree with a few but Ray never came off the bench and was sharing minutes with Terry and Courtney Lee because those guys never played together. Ray was gone when they were on the team the following year. The team was absolute ass the following year. Canât agree with you taking the clearly better heat to a game 7 (that was a good game for the most part too) and the losing making them a âtrash ass team.â Think they had more in the tank than you give them credit for since that season was cut short by the lockout that year. Can understand why they felt some type of way for a while about him going to the Heat whether you think itâs a rivalry or not, it was, and still is. But time heals all wounds and everyone should be thankful for what Ray did for us when he was here

Bradley gained the starting role that season. Â Aside from the games Bradley was hurt, Ray came off the bench in the playoffs which is why Ray only started 10 out of 18 games played.Â
And to be clear, he had already lost his starting role to Bradley which must have been insulting to him, had already been traded (it fell through) which had to have been insulting, and in the offseason while we were negotiating with him we had already signed Terry and Lee. If he had signed he would have been sharing bench minutes with them. Â Those two ended up backing up Bradley that year while Ray was in Miami.Â
This is a great take and will only make sense to the fans who can take off the homer glasses for 5 seconds (which admittedly isnât many of them)

Our big 3 at that time was: KG, Pierce, Rondo. Rondo and Ray hated each other. Bit Rondo had the ball. Ray was said to be pushed to the bank and was said to be part of trade offers (no-one knows, we can only guess). I donât think Ray took the easy road. He just didnât feel appreciated enough and moved on. Then he hit the biggest shot in finals history. I was sour as a fan. But being a competitor myself, after letting a couple years pass by, I totally respect his decision.
