I’m from Southern California so it’s normally a pretty rare sight. When we went to NC to visit my wife’s cousin It was definitely a culture shock seeing them hung out in the open. We walked around the downtown area near the college and they had legit confederate statues. My wife is black so we instantly noped out of there and spent the rest of the trip either at our hotel or at her families place.

New Hampshire is the wildest and most confusing place I’ve seen them in person.

I remember driving through Ohio shortly ater the 2024 election (before inauguration) and seeing ICE vehicles parked on the highway. I’ve been all over the country, and I don’t think I’d ever seen one outside of maybe the Texas border area.

That weirded me out. I was still under the impression Ohio was a “purple” state in 2020 and considered moving there until I spent more time there and learned more, seeing all of the Trump signs visible. Cincinatti is dope though and a pretty city.

My town went from the occasional confederate flag to a Trump flag on every block. I’d say from 2016-2025, any given section of 10 houses in my town, 2 would have Trump flags.

However, here in 2026, Trump flags have almost disappeared entirely. I could point out a dozen or so houses near my neighborhood that had Trump flags mysteriously disappear during this term. Even the houses with multiple flags and Trump/Anti-Democrat/Pro-Republican decorations have taken them down. Pretty crazy to see in real time that even the conservatives are backing away from Trump, his support is much much less than they want you to believe. There’s still a stubborn sect of his fans that make themselves known though.

I think there is more shock value with seeing the flag the further north you go in the state, but I was just down in the Blacksburg area a few weeks ago, and it’s proudly displayed flying from homes and with stickers on cars/trucks.

Also they leave out the part where they were trying to block a state’s right to choose whether they would be a free or slave state lol

It doesn’t change the idiocy in the decision to fly it in the first place. They don’t fly it because they think they won. They fly it because they reject the country they live in, whether they cop to it or not.

The confederate flag was really washed of the original meaning if you grew up in Florida. I went with my brother to his buddies dorm room and he had a confederate flag on the wall. He was black and attending FAMU a HBCU, and I’m pretty sure both of his parents were attorney’s so it’s not like they were uneducated.

I had it hammered into me that it meant southern pride my entire childhood. It wasn’t until like year 5 of living in NYC that I finally stopped being dumb and precious about it. It’s a symbol that didn’t mean anything bad to me, but it is a symbol of a man awful movement and what that movement carried into battle so why would I support that.

Not eastern but blew my mind how many I saw in Vancouver, WA when we went to Portland to buy a car. Goes to show it’s rural vs urban I guess.

It’s even more funny that the second Confederate flag was all white with the battle flag as a canton, which looked like a surrender flag when it hung on a flagpole.

The first flag was the “stars and bars”, and looked like a simplified version of the American flag.  It was also problematic when hung limply on a flagpole, as troops would confuse it with the American flag.

As someone who now lives in Daleville area , I will tell you as much as we want to say they’re really different, they’re not. There are areas of FC that try to be nicer like Cave S. And there are areas in FC that remind me a lot of my area now.

I had a good chuckle at Reddick implying that there are confederate flags all over the Cave Spring area.

Used to live in VA. NoVA for sure the most liberal and most influential area of the state for politics, but  SE VA and Hampton Roads area (where Allen Iverson is from) also pretty liberal leaning. Also has the navy so a lot of international influence compared to other parts of the state

Yes but the faces of the league have always been vanilla QBs. The position players were never the dominant face of the league.

Bill Russell, Kareem, Wilt, and other big men have always been there while you can’t really point to them in the NFL except for maybe Jim Brown.

Eh, QBs, linemen and linebackers were often white guys and a lot of these people are either the ones who have recognizable faces or were seen as leaders of a team. The NBA is seeing more prominent white players now largely with more overseas talent coming across, not necessarily American or Canadian players.

The NBA embraced the culture, though. The NFL for a very long time continued to hold up the slavery-adjacent standard that the Black players were the labor and owners/coaches/front offices were white men.

What does “almost impossible” even mean? Everything is “almost impossible” because it’s such a binary way to view things.

I grew up in rural Oklahoma. Minco, Tuttle, El Reno, Yukon, Hydro, Hinton, iykyk. But my biological father (he was absent my entire life) was full-blood Cherokee, my mother’s side was partially Cherokee, but mostly Irish/German. So I was basically the only person in my family with a redish/dark tan and dark hair.

I was bullied and picked on for these differences no matter which town or community we were forced to move to (mostly due to a single mother raising 2 kids on her own creating financial troubles).

I learned to not have enemies. To not seek revenge, resentment or harbor bitter feelings that would fester into ill-intent toward those that would subject me to the suffering I had to endure. I saw no point, they’re just ignorant. What benefit would those feelings bring? None.

Instead, I found allies. I found people willing to stick up for me, willing to listen and learn about me instead of just going with the assumed stereotypes.

Understanding, mutual understanding. It is the only thing that will actually give benefit to those that are made to suffer due to ignorance.

We all make choices, every single day, sometimes hundreds. You made a choice to use the words “almost impossible”, which I find reckless and of minimal, if any, benefit to the subject. It is no use to try and measure someone’s ability to learn when it comes to defeating intrinsic lies. You have to simply show you don’t fit the narrative, you have to make them answer the questions, “Is this person really as deceitful, resentful, hateful as I’ve been taught to believe?”

That is teaching, that is learning, this isn’t difficult, it isn’t impossible, it’s done literally every day all over the world. It’s even done in places like Reddit or facebook.

Presuming viability is just a lazy way to excuse effort.
