[Highlight] 38 year old shaq bullies Chris bosh and the raptors dropping 45 points on 20-25 from the field
Real ones know that old Shaq was good, just injured all the time
Phoenix Shaq was solid, last time he was ever an All-Star. Although you can argue trading for Shaq killed the 7 seconds or less Suns
You don’t have to argue, it is clearly evident Shaq size and slower speed was a departure from the SSoL system. The Suns sacrificed what made em’ unique cause they thought a true center would help them beat Tim Duncan.
Biggest mark on Steve Kerr’s legacy. The Nash-Marion -Amare Suns were such a handful to deal with and it’s crazy they went away from that
Amare’s knees turned to nos
i’m confused, what does steve kerr have to do with the suns, besides playing for them briefly in the late 80s?
He was the GM at that time
Yeah the truth is that the Suns got worse after they traded for Shaq because he just didn’t fit in with their offense.
It’s not a coincidence that their record got worse in 08 after the trade, and that they had their worst season in years in 09 when Old Shaq was there for the whole season, and then they immediately bounced back in 2010 when Old Shaq was gone. Shaq was not a winning player during his later years, that doesn’t diminish what he did in his prime
I mean the dude was like 400lbs at this point there was no way anything but his conditioning was stopping him.
Other players were calling Shaq Fat Albert around that time.
He probably dropped that 40 peice on us and yelled out HEY HEY HEY when he was done
Real ones watched the video and saw Bargnani’s pathetic attempts at defense. Legitimately embarrassing. At least Bosh tried.
He was a solid player even in his later years, but the image of Shaq we all remember is him turning people into bbq chicken, so it was always going to be a bit sad. Also, despite his nagging injuries, he was still incredibly durable for a person his size, he retired at 39 with a ton of mileage and he keeps himself healthy, which is something you don’t see with many players.
No thanks to Larry David
ya cause he wasn’t in shape… no wonder why Kobe wanted to throw a chair at him at practice
This was famously known as the Shaq vs RuPaul game https://slamonline.com/nba/shaqs-nickname-for-chris-bosh-rupaul/
Bosh wasn’t supposed to guard him, but Bargnani was so shit he had to.
Shout-out to the half court granny shot in the middle of the video.
That was insane.
For 77k too
The centers today are so small it would be a bloodbath if there was a prime shaq right now.
Who’s even big anymore? Jokic? Hes 6 ft 11 280
Shaq was 7ft 330-400 pounds. Someone like jokic is getting ragdolled.
Wemby is getting sent into the audience.
Domas might give up 100
Prime embiid could had been a great option.
The other guys who are big aren’t doing shit (edey)
Yeah Embiid is the obvious answer. He is an absolute unit and also had the athleticism to keep up with Shaq. It is fucked up how injuries ended his prime early. He is an all time talent even if this sub clowns him.
Shaq wouldn’t survive having to pick them up at 35 feet, anyone with a working jumpshot would give Shaq at least as many as he gave them.
We won’t ever know how hard Shaq tried but he was that talented and gifted he didn’t know what 100% effort was because it was easy for him. Shaq was also a competitor, he allow anyone to clown him in a game.
I don’t even mean it as a dig at Shaq, it’s just that I don’t think really any of the big men of that era and before could have done it. They’re expected to play modern basketball when they aren’t busy being the inside center these days, something that has only started being expected in the last decade or so. Shaq shot 11 threes in his entire career, and it wasn’t uncommon for his match up to have never shot a three in his career.
Tim Duncan is my favorite player of all time, old slow DPOY candidate Duncan would get run off the floor today. Kevin Garnett has the best chance of anyone pre-2005ish I reckon, but the game has changed so much and gotten so much more skill intensive for the big guys just in the last few years I think even the recent greats wouldn’t be so great.
While I didn’t properly express it. I meant the greats would adapt to the modern game. Not because they would want to but they would have to stay in the league. Just using Shaq as an example he had like 3-4 different physiques during his career. If lsu/orlando shaq entered the league today he would still be successful
This isn’t how you compare players across eras imo. You gotta judge their skill relative to their era. Tim Duncan is gonna adapt to whatever basketball is being played around him and dominate. 1980s, 2000s, 2020s, 2040s…. doesn’t matter.
Yeah I think this train of thought is so overblown.
Zion wiliamson is honestly the closest thing to shaq weve seen in years. Hes a midget version who is incredibly injury prone. Theres into anyone who can guard this guy at 6 ft 6 in todays league.
It won’t be an issue with shaq, if you don’t have a big body to slow him down he’s going to average a near 2 ppp. No amount of 3s is going to keep up, and the only known strat is fouling him.
Jokic might be sloppy, even a fat boy. but hes no ragdoll
I agree but the rules were different.
With the modern hybrid zones in NBA defenses teams nowadays could load up on Shaq more.
Back then teams had to gaurd him one on one while sending a double team.
It was a different game.
But Shaq was unquestionably dominant.
If you watched the video , the raps were doubling him with Bosh and Bargnani for most of the 4th and they still couldn’t stop him lol
Bargs couldn’t stop a run away toddler.
Bosh was always super soft, Anderson Varejao owned him everytime we played the Cavs.
The point is back then triple teaming was illegal and so was standing in space not guarding anybody unlike today.
Modern defenses are better equipped to handle dominant post players because of the rule changes.
That’s why we saw a shift towards small ball lineups and we have seen less and less bigs with offensive games based on post play.
Jokic has been the best bigman in the NBA for some time and even he operates from the elbows and the 3 point line, not deep in the post like bigmen of years past.
Same with Marc Gasol when he was a big time player.
lol I love how you’re pretending Jokic isn’t enormous. He and Embiid are two of the best giant guys ever. They’d both be fun matchups for Shaq.
Edey or Rudy would have as good of a chance as anyone else did during Shaq’s era. Idk w Wemby, he’d probably have to guard someone else but he could mess w Shaq helping whenever he shot
Prime Shaq wouldnt do shit unfortunately because there’s no one left in the league (outside of maybe Bron) who knows how to throw an entry pass worth a damn.
BBQ chicken down low. To be fair, those players and final form Bosh could put 45 on Shaq by stretching the floor.
Yeah but is Shaq gonna get out there and guard the perimeter? Especially when his matchup starts handling shit like a guard on him?
Hes not going to guard the perimeter.
And neither do most traditional rim protectors in todays nba
Gobert/clingan/kessler/zubac/hartenstein
These guys dont guard the perimeter
And that’s why none of them stop today’s centers either
ydkb
No, he’s going to score 2pts on 80% of his field goal attempts and deliver nightmarish elbows and shoulders to every single big your team throws at him. Add a couple of blocks, a few shot alterations leading to misses, and the general tiring out of your interior defense.. gg Shaq’s team by 20
Shaqs big ass isn’t keeping up defensively with the speed and pace of today’s game like that, you make it sound like a Jokic or a Wemby would play his way when reality is they’d make him play their way
Bro he’s a 38yo in these highlights. The comment you replied to posed the question as if it were prime Shaq.
That dude is TERRORIZING Joker, and Wemby would be eating the stanchion padding 8 times a game. The game is about putting the basketball through the hoop and you just watched him do it at 80% rate by brute force dropping 45 while knocking on 40.
What are you missing?
Im missing where Chris Bosh and Andrea Bargnani suddenly became either Wemby or Jokic.
I think you somehow missed when my question asked about defense. Y’know, that other side of the ballgame?
Guarding jokic around the perimeter would be a problem, no doubt. I think shaqs team opts to let Denver live and die by jokers 3. I don’t think Wemby is as formidable on the perimeter and neither one of those guys is attacking Shaq at the basket. So you’re settling for lower percentage opportunities while he’s got his nuts in jokers face while hanging from the rim on the other end.
You smell like a nephew.
They would play a different style of defense to account for Shaq’s defensive liability on the outside.
Imagine 300 lb+ Shaq being dragged to the perimeter on every possession, dragged through every screen and roll, then isolated on every guard/wing player that can shoot the three over him.
I know we love Shaq, but Lakers Shaq would not last in today’s NBA for more than a few games. It’s brutal out there.
And on defense, just foul him. He barely shoots 50 from the ft line.
“I know we love Shaq”
Yeah not all of us. He saved up his poop and poured it on a rookie. Dude is a bioterrorist.
He’s also a horrible TV analyst and insecure and jealous as hell.
Zion is a mini-version of Shaq and he can’t last 15 games in today’s NBA without getting injured. Why does everyone think Shaq can play in today’s NBA?
You literally can’t move 300 pounds around without breaking something.
Lakers Shaq? This video is an old and fat shaq, Lakers Shaq was a prime shaq and he was very agile despite his size and weight. He would dominate anyone today.
Zion is a mini version of Shaq and can’t handle the brunt of the NBA season at 285. Do you really think Shaq can last at 330?
Have you watched a game in the past year? Do you think he could handle all that?
I totally blanked on Shawn Marion being on the raptors. I remember him going from the Suns to the Heat and then magically appearing on the Mavs
Had to wiki that shit
We always had some unwilling players on our team on their way to their real destinations. Just not all of the made such fusses about it like Carter.
dont let this 45 point performance distract you from the fact that shaq made lou admunson cry bc his hazing involved taking a shit in his shoes and scratching his ball sack with lous toothbrush then threatening everyone to not tell him so he could brush his teeth with it
I’m pretty sure he put his mouth piece in his pants and practiced with it in there before a game. Don’t remember hearing about a toothbrush but I can see him doing both.
That Grant Hill dunk was filthy, the whole bench got up for that one.
he’s 36 not 38, here. 2008 was his last ‘good’ year.
Andrea Bargnani guarding Shaq is the definition of barbecue chicken!
back when centers just need to play the paint and not care about the 3pt line.
When he moved to Phoenix, he tried his usual elbows out turn into his defender’s face in the lane and, for the first time in his career, it was called a foul.
“Thank god Shaq was raised right” - KG
I forgot about this game. My memory of the Suns that year is that they had started to click a bit, and then Amare got an (eye?) injury.
Pretty unique team, even if it didn’t work out.
Shaq attack one of the best of all times maybe even call him GOAT but like goat of goats idk though sometimes I think Kobe better but maybe Ben LeBron and cunt forget Jordan
When Amundson stole that rebound, Shaq decided then and there he’d be shitting in his shoes.
He was 36 in this game not 38.
Still incredible
Shaq during his time with Phoenix was good.
Shaq longevity is actually underrated he definitely could have been the goat if he kept in shape
Raps were known for their Swiss cheese defence back in those days. Night and day compared to what they’ve been building in these recent times.
god he was big then
