Mike D’Antoni HOF Speech - On Coaching Harden
One of the most legendary offensive MVP seasons imo
The 30 point scoring streak the following season was even crazier
The 40 for 40 tour/ Unguardable Tour
From December to March he averaged 40ppg over a stretch of 40 games. Unguardable tour
More important he dragged the team from out of the playoffs to the 4th seed.
Prime James Harden was like Luka but actually a MVP.
Every comment i see from you is Luka disrespect lol
Facts is facts. Lol. There’s no disrespect if what you say is factually correct. Harden is a MVP and Luka isn’t. I don’t make that up.
All i’m saying is any time i see you comment under a post its about Luka lol
Luka envy
Not everyone likes Luka lol, there’s people that hate comment everytime they talk about lebron jokic and Austin reaves doesn’t mean they are bad players just they don’t like them
No I’m well aware and its perfectly fine to dislike a player, but to dislike them to the point where you are in every comment section perma crying about it is funny
My apologies if I can’t take someone serious that post non stop in the lakers and OKC forum about how you are biggest fan of each team. Guess you are loyal and really know ball.
Okay, well here’s from someone who is a fan of one singular team. It’s weirdo behavior to obsess like this over a player. I’m not sure what or who hurt you, but I’d recommend talking it out with a professional.
Luka will never come close to prime Harden. He singlehandedly gave NBA fandom hope he could bring down the Warriors.
No disrespect to Harden. I just made a positive post about him, but Luka has already accomplished more in the postseason than Harden can come close to.
Harden taking the KD/Steph Warriors to 7 is more impressive than anything Luka has achieved in the postseason
Agreed to disagree. I don’t think Luka’s ever played in a team with as much talent as that rockets team, but taken multiple further. I also weigh numerous no shows and chock jobs heavy, which he has many.
But you are free to your opinion.
Harden brought a team starting Pat Bev, Danuel House, PJ Tucker at C and Ariza to 2 seed man.
What are you talking bout better team? Lmao.
[deleted]
Not only did you double reply to the same comment but you also stalked their post history. Look out for this one fellas, she is nuts.
Edit: What happened to your post history Caitlin Clark Jr? Guess you know you fucked up.
2nd seed and how did they fare in playoffs?or we care about regular season now?
So I forget one of the greatest pg that ever lived was on that team. Also if that team played now, I agree, but you are way underselling them at the time. Or are you saying they were shit?
I’m a Mavs fan that should hate the rockets but that team was amazing. Reading how they spent time each practicing working on switching, calls, fake calls, and rules on defense only to play the warriors… that’s crazy work. That team was nothing short of amazing and hard work. I’d love to shit on my rivals, but I can’t.
Luka only played with Brunson, kyrie, lebron etc. Bunch of bums clearly 😂😂
I know you are just trolling but I’ll reply. Brunson before he became who he is now, Kyrie who is clearly in his “at best second option” phase, and a 41 yo LeBron. Ok pal. What actual ball analysis you want to provide? I can easily find a player you like and pick and choose random past prime ppl they played with.
Magic was on that team? Or are you talking bout the best ball handler of alltime Kyrie? Lol.
But anyway yeah, that team was Harden and frens and he made it work against the GOAT team GSW and as D Antoni says here, it was Harden and frens. So regardless of what the team is, Harden ran the show.
Nah this is mad Chris Paul disrespect. Harden was the guy, but Chris Paul’s injury derailed them against the KD warriors
I don’t think you understand how dominant that Warriors team was. I mean, there was absolutely zero chance that the Cavs were going to win that Finals even if JR wasn’t a dumbass and George Hill hit that free throw. They were equivalent to the 07 Patriots and the Rockets were their 07 Giants, just turned out missing your second best player in the most important game had massive ramifications. Luka is great, not saying he isn’t. But that Rockets team had a Herculean task and almost got it done.
Getting your ass best by the Celtics in the finals is NOT more impressive than making the Conference finals and taking KD warriors to game 7
No he hasn’t. Luka has barely 5 series(and shouldn’t get credit for the mavs vs clippers cause he was ass so really 4) wins in 8 seasons, harden has 17. When they played head to head Harden outplayed luka too. Luka got carried by westbrick, kawhibrick, and kyrie. Harden has like 5 cf appearances and 1 finals appearance. Yall try to say Luka losing in 4 in the first round is a better run than Harden going to cf because of ppg….
Harden 98-93 record
Luka 26-29 record
Luka is not better in the playoffs, not even close.
Luka will never be able to come close to harden, Luka also misses the playoffs with the play in handi cap that Harden didn’t have most of his career.
What were his ass stats in that series?
Watch the games kiddo, it was Harden and PG vs Kyrie, Kawhi, westbrook. Luka was a no show till the series was already over
lol no
And he almost did
Tell me you don’t know ball without telling me you don’t know ball. 😬
Bad take lil bro.
Shut the ever living fuck up. This sub is full of such dumbfucks.
harden is better than luka and by a lot
Luka ain’t never gone 0-27
Classic r/nba, can’t give props to one player without shitting on another
All four years he was with D’Antoni were insane. You could make a case that his MVP season was the “worst” of the four, but he had a healthy co-star that year and didn’t have to do as much as the other three years
Half the defense, double the offense
Love to see the respect from both. I honestly think Harden was touched.
Hasn’t been touched that deep since last Monday at Magic City
Nice dude my upvote got you to 69
Downvoted so we can keep the balance.
I upvoted for the shits and giggles
For the same money i’ll probably fuck D’Antoni
What about all the Mike Dan Tony Brothers
I dunno if he was, but he definitely sold it like he was touched.
The “thank you” made me tear up. My favorite basketball time ever was during D’Antoni Rockets.
The amount of joy harden and him gave me legit kept me from suicide and self harm I fucking love that era of houston basketball
Hope you’re doing better, brother
Better enough that im a sister now ^~^
Hell ya sister
Glad you’re still around homie.
We’re happy you’re still here, the world is a brighter place when people such as yourself walk away from that edge.
Man i wanted that 17⁄18 team to win it all. In my mind the greatest non champion team of all time.
Us or some of the spurs (whos rosters all mostly won rings tho )
It’s OK yall did the honors <3
It is hard to even fathom that team going 7⁄44 from 3
don’t make me think about the consecutive missed 3s at a time like this
*consecutive missed threes and also made threes that were not counted
I’ll never forget the threes that got waived off for no reason. Harden step back getting laughed off. Like what theb hell
They got a lot of good looks too, even though they were playing six guys the entire game and Harden had to do literally everything
gerald green literally got called up from the couch
same. only time that comes close is that brief period when artest arrived where it seemed like it was finally all gonna work out with yao and tmac but that was brief. definitely the best sustained experience since i was a small kid during the clutch city championships.
oddly some of my favorite years as well
Good fucking god. Favorite? They were death to watch. You’re on an island.
WHY DIDNT WE JUST BEAT GSW IM ON MY KNEES I MISS THEM SO MUCH
0-27 sorry
Tha’s a lot of 27 questions to answer for.
2-29
The whole NBA fans (minus Curry and GSW fans) sent our energy but to not avail…. I can remember what I was doing as they just clanked each 3pt shoot after another.
I dont think ill ever see a more magical moment then us winning game 5-the stakes and vibes, the courtside shot of JJ watt
Houston as fuck
The KD Warriors were so hated that every single fanbase outside of them were pulling for James Harden and Chris Paul to beat them lmfao.
The refs missed some calls. Sometimes one bad call or missing one call can change the momentum, not to mention missing multiple calls.
I’m with you man. It’ll haunt me forever.
I can give you 27 reasons why and 0 explanation for it
CP3 got injured on the game they went up 3-2. Then he massively regressed the next season.
Dantoni has elevated essentially every guard he’s coached.
Definitely a legend.
I wish he was still doing this.
Chris Duhon was great that one season with the Knicks. MDA made me a believer.
It was a shame that we gave him such weak PG play. Linsanity was the best run and that was so brief, otherwise it was like Raymond Felton lol
He famously didn’t think much of Jeremy Lin.
His was great with Nash and Harden obviously.
Linsanity happened under Dantoni
Honestly, and I say this as a Lin fan, Lin was not a great PG and the sort of person who would lead D’Antoni’s system.
Lin was turnover prone with issues ball handling. I mean, for D’Antoni the standard is Harden and Nash.
Lin did really well in Charlotte until the injuries took over. To me, that was sort of his natural position where he thrived as a bench PG or second PG/slasher with Kemba. He also did well in Brooklyn directing a motion offense.
Jeremy Lin wasn’t that good.
His best year was 2013 where he put up 13⁄6 on average true shooting starting all 82. He was obviously an NBA rotational level player but comparing him to Nash and Harden pre-Dantoni is like comparing the league MVP and the Orlando Magic’s 7th man.
Everyone knows about Harden, but before coming to Phoenix, Nash had back to back all nba seasons in 2002 and 2003 and was the lead guard in some of the best relative offenses of all time next to Dirk. For reference, the 2002 Mavs offense was 7.7 points per 100 better than average, nearly 3 points better than the #2 Lakers.
He was an offensive superstar hiding in plain sight, Dallas just didn’t offer him a contract after a down year in 04 and the rest is history.
Cp3 harden tucker ariza capela were a fun team to watch
Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson.
That team had so much scoring.
They were an absolute super team, 8 guys deep running into the most broken roster ever. Not glazing them, just facts. I hated Harden’s foul baiting.
Luc Mbah Moute, Gerald Green who could go off for 25 on some nights. Such a fun well constructed team.
Yep, Mbah a Moute’s shoulder injury before the 2018 playoffs is one of the overlooked misfortunes that Houston team faced.
EG was so under appreciated. 6th man of the year and 3 point contest champ. Crucial to the success of those teams. Also Ryno’s first year was incredible. Shame he got the yips and never found a cure
Harden is not appreciated enough. Think he was up there as one of the best shooting guards(other than jordan) that changed the game.
Dude averaged 40 for like 4 months. I hated every second of it but it was pretty crazy to watch
Me too. Hated that guy but those 40 point triple double is crazy
That go ahead bucket against golden state
He’s up there with Steph regarding changing the game. People barring the Rockets fans didn’t enjoy his unethical game sometimes but he is definitely a basketball genius whether you like it or not. I don’t think there is any player other than Harden that broke the game with his mind, not talent alone.
Steph has insane shooting plus the dribbling, MJ had the agility, jumping and finesse, Shaq had the insane body mass with athleticism. Harden just studied the game and found its weaknesses or the most efficient ways to score like a maniac. And I appreciate him for that.
We actually took analytic ball to a different level and helped the league realize how to rely do it. We shot more threes than the warriors and eliminated the midrange almost completely.
Healthier, better post defender, even better scorer but more inconsistent in the playoffs.
He feasibly could have had 4 MVP’s lol. Harden was really that dude man.
Inconsistent is being kind. He just wasn’t good in the playoffs. Giant drop in efficiency that I chalk up to his partying. You can pull off the shit he was doing during the regular season, but pay the price when you’re going 7 in the WCF against GS.
In another timeline, Harden takes his body seriously like Lebron, and he’s in the GOAT conversation.
he had good stretches, painting it as not good overall is false
You can’t have 98 playoff wins as a superstar player and not be good in the playoffs…
Reverse Luka based on playoff performance
Closer to a chip beating the GOAT KD GSW than Luka getting swept. Lol.
Wat 🤣
That’s my goat coach
One of the most innovative and influential coaches ever. Amazing career.
Man fuck golden state forever man, dude should have a ring right now. But thanks for everything D’Antoni
L Scott Foster for life cheating ass fuck!
2 legends, like to see D’antoni make it. Dude has so much bad luck, cp3 injury prob cost that man a title. Lastly he’s lookin fuckin amazing, this man is 75
I gotta say, D’antoni was always inevitably going to lose, but the teams he ran were some of the most exciting teams I’ve watched. His Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets teams were fucking fun to watch.
D’Antoni aged* like a fine wine… dudes 75?! *Typo
Barely old enough to run for congress
Personally, I don’t like the botox, bright white teeth look. Let yourself age naturally, man.
u/Nyknicks44 looks like he’s there
Jeremy Lin, Steve Novak and Jared Jeffries were there to support Mike
MDA looks pretty good still for being 75
People forget he was virtually unstoppable during those years. You knew he was gonna step back and shoot that 3 but they could never stop it. And when he didn’t step back he was driving past. His ball handling and control was one of the best ever
I was forget how dantoni never sounds like what I expect him to sound like.
Teeth
I always like that Mike didn’t have an ego. He never got in the way of his guys. He just let Harden, Nash, hell, even Jeremy Lin cut loose.
He did try to revolutionized with 7 sec shot.
Does he prefer Harden, or Nash?!
If only Mike was born like like a decade later, dude would have teams dropping 200 these days
anyone else captivated by mike’s voice ? always loved listening to him speak
Him and Don Nelson may have never won it all, but they made me want to watch basketball.
These two guys plus CP3 and that entire Rockets team gave me my favorite year of watching Basketball… I don’t care that it ended in tragedy, that year will always be magical to me.
D’antoni said Harden was going to be the point guard, but what actually changed? Didn’t Harden control and initiate the offense most of the time before D’antoni.
When that Houston played the warriors, I wondered what Dantoni thought, because the ball movement on the Warriors is how D’antoni preferred to run the offense.
D’antoni butt heads with Carmelo over playstyle but then wants that playstyle with Houston? If D’antoni didn’t go along with all the iso on the rockets team, D’antoni probably doesn’t get hired or last long with the team
Probably the only guard who can score over 30 ppg while dishing out over 10 apg. Usually they trade one for the other.
Not at all. They only lost by 9 even with the missed 3’s. If they had CP3 to keep them organized I think they had them, but sometimes it just isn’t meant to be.
nah r/nba declared that KD going to Warriors meant we already knew who the winners would be so it didn’t matter if CP3 got hurt
KD stan still trying to downplay KD’s weak move a decade later
Iggy was injured for the Warriors in multiple games in that same series. If both teams are healthy the Warriors aren’t taken to 7 games. Iggy even missed Game 1 of the Finals against the Cavs.
James harden is a regular season merchant
That’s my Houston team era. Because i hate Warriors that time haha
Destroyed Kobe’s career
Good. Must’ve happened way earlier to the rapist.
